CHAPTER TWENTY- TWO
“It is true I fled but life was not all I had imagined…please listen to my own story” Banji said as he was prostrating and begging.
So, what is about the cook up stories that he wants to tell me, after all he had done and the pains, he had caused me, I should now forgive him. hmmm, anyways, I allowed him to say what he had in his mouth.
Bisi asked him to take a seat and stop prostrating so that he can say whatever he has in his mouth but he kept refusing the offer claiming that the position was good for him.
“Since you are saying you like it been that way, it is your choice” Bisi concluded

Then Banji coughed and sighs before he then proceeded to his story.
“You see, I know I am guilty and ought to be punished for what I have done to you and your family but “he paused and looked up shook his head and sighs again before he continued his story.
“Shortly after I fled from you when I heard that you had damaged your womb and your dad was after me with the police. I packed my things and left to where no one can trace me together with my fiancée whom I had promised to marry. We left for an undisclosed town. She questioned my movement and was suspicious about it but I assured her that nothing was wrong as I told her a lie that it was the directive of the spirit and I heard it clearly from God.” He said.
“Since she knew how I had always mentioned directives from God on previous happenings that always turned out to be in our favor, she decided to follow me without any further questioning. But we have barely spent two days in the new town when strange numbers started to call her and myself. Although, I knew it would be from your parent, I told her to ignore any unknown caller, better still throw away the phone but little did I know that I was just driving myself to the pit I dug” He added.
“The calls became more intense and she could not bear it again so she decided to pick and it was your mum on the line, she told her all that had happened and how I was trusted by your family and later broke the trust by having my way with their daughter. She was shocked at what she heard and could not continue with our relationship, so we broke up and path ways” Banji sighs.

“After the parting, I got over it quickly because I had pictures it that it will happen one day but it took her a longer time to get over it, I heard she became traumatized after the incident because she had invested heavily into the relationship. After that, I decided to move ahead with my life thinking all would be well,” He said looking at my face and continued.
“I applied for many jobs but all I got was rejection and frustrations, I became worried because I was becoming worst and poorer than I was before coming into the town. I felt maybe the town was not good enough and left for another place. On getting there, it was the same rejection until I met a lady. We got along together and she tried to raise me up again then another disaster struck, she was constantly harassed by some unknown spirit in her dream and when it became too much, she decided to seek for spiritual help where it was revealed to her that I was a cursed person and if she value her life she must leave me and that was how we parted ways also.”
“Those that I came across that wanted to help were always abused and tormented spiritually. It was so bad that I had to go into stealing since I don’t have anything to eat or money to spend” He paused this time, he burst out crying loud with tears flowing down his eyes
“Why have I done this, why!!! I should have left the house without killing the lady, I should have “ He said repeatedly and we became confused.
“So you mean you killed a lady in the process of stealing” I asked him as I was no longer comfortable with him.
“Yes, I made a terrible mistake, I wish I had not indulged in that devilish act. I joined a bad gang and we went on stealing spree. In one of our outing, we dropped by into a large and expensive building not too far from this area. We sighted the house as we noticed it belong to a young man who must be very wealthy.” He sighed.
“ After necessary preparations, on the 3rd of March of last year, we entered into the house where we met a young man and his little sister. At first, it was the young girl we saw, she should be around your age “ He shook his head.
“The monster in us came again and we threatened to kill the lady if she was not going to cooperate, as we were talking to her, the brother came outside to check what was happening and he tried to plead with me and the rest of the gang to spare his sister and that he was ready to give us any amount we request for but we said NO.” He stopped and looked at Bisi who was looking very sad and almost crying.
“ I became possessed once again and ordered my gang to take turns on the lady, we raped her that night in the presence of her brother, we were not putting on mask so he saw our faces. As if it was not enough, we beat the brother and took half a million in cash from him and was about leaving when the lady suddenly stood up and was cursing us.” He paused and sigh this time very deep.
“I then asked if she was a virgin which we knew she was not and started mocking her although it was a shock to her brother as he opened his mouth but that was not the issue, it was the mental problem, depression and bitterness we had caused and would make her go through in life”.
“She continued cursing us under her breath with tears in her eyes, hmmm. There was a point she cried that she wanted to talk but she could not all I was seeing was a moving lips. Her brother tried to calm her down but she went wild and charged at one of us and started to bite him which infuriated me and I shot her dead” He paused and this time his two eye balls had become red.
“What!!! you killed the lady again, you are wicked and should be put to death” I said to him. Bisi opened her mouth in shock.
He then continued. ‘After the scene we ran away to our hideout. But it was not long that her spirit started tormenting me which made me go to a church for counselling and deliverance.”
‘It was from there I was told that I needed to make restitution if I want my life to be normal again that is if I still want to be successful in life. I became born again in the church and had dedicated my life to Christ. I have almost started my new journey back in Christ that is why am here asking for your forgiveness today” He said to me while I was shedding hot tears.
‘You must be crazy in your head, you did all that and want my forgiveness, you must be mad and sick in the head.” I said to him.
“Please leave my place you wicked soul” I shouted at him and was about pushing him out when I heard another knock on the door. Bisi who was shedding tears opened and an elderly man walked in. He was about to talk when another person showed up, this time it was Martins.
I was shocked seeing Martins at my place but I could not ask what he was doing there. He noticed the tears in my eyes and quickly took out his handkerchief to wipe away my tears to the surprise of those that were in room. He was about asking me what was making me cry and asked why Banji was prostrating when he looked at his face and shouted..
‘Oh Jesus, you!!! What are you doing here, you!!!!’ Martins shouted and we were all surprised. Immediately Banji saw him he wanted to run but he caught him and pinned him down.
“I will kill you today, you are the one that killed my sister, ahh, you raped Lara and killed her” Martins said crying like a baby. He was so emotional. He could not control himself as he was hitting Banji and shouting. “It is today you will die, ahh you made me suffer” He shouted.
I was confused while the elderly man that had followed Martins was shocked also, everyone was shocked…

Do you think because Banji has now given his life to Christ he should escape punishment with all he had done.
