A LETTER TO YOU

CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX.

(Story by : Okegbemi Ebenezer)

Everyone was shocked at the revelation, I could not believe my ears, my heart skipped and I fainted. Martins quickly get hold on me and tried to revive me back. He began to scream my name so that I can become conscious of what was going on.

“Alisa, you don’t have to do this, don’t let the devil rejoice over you, you have come this far, there is no backing down” Martins was shouting as he was shaking me.

I was weak by the time I finally come back to my consciousness. He tried to calm me down and I was assisted to the seat close to me.

“You don’t mean what you have just voiced out” Martins father asked Bose who was already confused.

She nods her head and could not look up. He moved closer to her and tap her shoulder.

“Tell me my daughter are you sure” He asked once again as he walked to his seat

“Yes sir” Bose replied.

Martins mother was fuming with anger, by her look towards me it was as if she should chase me away with force but she was just trying to balance her breathing. I stared at her but she looked away, hissed and walked out of the room.

I began to pray within, it was as if the ground should swallow me or I should be able to make corrections about the things of the past and not even have anything to do with Bose.

“Alisa, you just have to calm down, don’t be upset with what is happening now, we shall overcome it” He said as he gave Bose a stern look. He took his car key and asked me to follow him as he drove out of the house.

As he was driving, he was murmuring some inaudible words to himself and was cursing Bose underneath his breath.

“I should not have allowed you to stay with that devil, it was my mistake, had I known” He said to himself.

“But must she open up in my parent’s presence about the secret, she just wanted to force herself into my life but it is not possible, I will not allow that” He said as he looked at me and continued driving.

A LETTER TO YOU: Chapter 21 – The End

As I sat down at the passenger seat, many thoughts were crossing my mind, I was thinking maybe I should call it a quit with Martins. I was thinking if I should leave without any notice because all seems to be blank since his parents would not want their son to marry a lady that has no womb.

It is the joy of every mother to be a grandmother and see their grandchildren but with a lady like me without womb is it that visible.

As he was talking, he kept staring at me and noticed I was not listening but in deep thoughts. He tapped me to draw my attention.

“Alisa, you don’t have to think too much over this issue, I know it is serious but you can’t imagine the love I have for you. Yes, it is true, I should have desert you but I think this relationship between us is divine.” He said to me and smile just to pacify me.

“Really, but now there are obstacles on the way, do you really think you can convince your parents to accept me” I asked him but he did not talk as he continued driving.

“Are you sure you have faith in the God you are serving” He asked me.

I did not reply him because, my faith has become shaken, I can’t summon courage.

“Like I told you, this relationship is divine and I know it will lead to marriage. Maybe, you don’t understand me, I will tell you something I had kept as secret to you” He said.

“You see, after you wrote your letter and left back then, I searched for you to no avail and following the death of my sister, I felt you have gone for good, and I decided to move on with my life. I came across different ladies who were willingly to marry me but anytime I pray, it was you that always come across my mind, I thought maybe I was yet to get over you, so I decided to take my mind of you completely but it was not possible.”

“I prayed over it and I had the confirmation that you will surely be the one I will marry but you were no where to be found. So before I saw you again in the youth empowerment program, I had prayed that day and said God should manifest himself and truly he did as he brought us back together. You see all this trouble is part of the struggles we must face and overcome but when you give in for weakness then the devil will have upper hand and that means we are losing the battle” He said and smiled a bit.

I tried to smile but I ended up crying. He tried to beg but the more I cried so he left me alone for some minutes until I stopped myself.

“I believe in the God I serve, he can do the impossible, I don’t see this as a problem but what we will overcome and that is if we can pray” He added as he ushered me into the house.

A LETTER TO YOU: Chapter 21 – The End

After what happened in their home, Bose had become a regular visitor as she helped Martin’s mother in doing most of the house chores and whenever martins was around she try all her best to get his attention but it always ends in quarrel between the two.

Martins mother and Bose’s mother made plan to make things work out between the two so that they make plans for their marriage. Martins mother deployed several tactics to make Martins understand that Bose was the right lady for him and not myself.

“Martins, you are not getting any younger and if care is not taken it could become another thing” She said to him.

“Mummy, I am not a child, I know what I am doing” He said.

“Don’t you see that Bose is a good child, look at the way she takes care of myself and your dad, she is more of a family to us, so I see nothing wrong if you marry her” She said to him.

“But I don’t like her, and I can’t force myself to like her, or do you want me to divorce her immediately after the marriage” He said to her.

“Never, over my dead body will you do such and being a Christian, have you forgotten the bible do not support it” She said to him.

“So, don’t force things on me, I will marry the one my heart chooses” he replied her.

“Oh, do you think, it is that useless lady, I will allow you to marry, it is not possible, see if you are still on her case, I am telling you today that it is not impossible” she said to him and walked out on him.

Martins stood there and was looking speechless. Bose had already moved fully into their house with the support of both parents. The pleads of Martins to his father fell on deaf ears.

“Martins, I know that you are no longer a baby but what we elders would see while sitting, you might not see it even if you stand up” His father said and dropped the issue to another one.

(She dropped her pen and stare into the dark night, she moved to the window, it was already dark, there was no movement again. She looked around the house and got back to her seat to continue the letter) Do you think I can overcome this, anyways, I can’t blame his parents, who in the right senses will allow their son marry a woman with no womb and vice versa, no parent would allow their daughter marry an impotent man.

But as Martins had said, he would stick with me, will he be able to fulfill his promise, as Bose had began to make a frantic effort in getting Martins attention and it seems it has been yielding gradually. I think with time, I will know…

(she took her pen and continued her letter)
