A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

? Chapter 3?

I took a deep breath and exhaled then forced a smile.

“You got this Chloe, you got this.”
I gave myself a pep talk as I approached them. My mom detached herself from my dad’s hold and stared at me as I got closer.

If looks could kill, Ciara would have killed me multiple times with her laser stares.

I stopped one foot away from my suitcases, I tried not to think about the reason it was outside.

“Dad, mom, it’s not true.”
I said slowly.

“Told you she will deny it.”
My sister said immediately I finished my sentence.

I clenched my fist and pretended not to hear her.

“You have to believe me, I don’t know him. I was seeing him for the first time.”
I searched their faces for any sign that they were convinced but when my dad shook his head in disappointment and my mom cried more I knew I had to try harder.

“Mom….”

“Stop please,” she said and stared at me with puffy eyes.

“You ruined this family like it’s nothing, why him Cassandra?”
I opened my mouth to explain but she continued.

“You were using Grey all along? Who are you?”
She asked and looked at me like I was possessed.

“It’s me, mom, it’s me, Chloe.”
She shook her head frantically like she didn’t want to believe a word from my mouth.

“Dad?”
I turned to him to say something.

“You are better than this, Chloe.”
He said with a sad tone accompanied by worry.

“Dad, please hear me out.”
He turned away and walked back into the house.
My heart sunk, tears brimmed in my eyes as I watched my dad shut the door.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

“You were he.ll-bent on attending the wedding because you couldn’t stand the thought of him getting married to Sofia.”
Ciara said not helping my situation.

“No, I told you why I wanted to go to the wedding.”

“You lied!”
She yelled, who was this person and what had she done to my sister?

“Grey was a good guy even though I never admitted it, he is much better for you than a billionaire ten years older than you.”
I didn’t know what to say to my mom, if no one was ready to believe me then why was I trying.

“Are you ready to become a mother Cassandra?”
I didn’t answer, tears rolled down my cheeks as I stared at her.

“Do you know what people are gonna say about you? About this family?”
She asked and I whimpered.

“I’m not pregnant mom, I am stilll a vir…”

“You know, I always had a feeling you were hiding something but this wasn’t close to what I thought it’d be.”
She cut in.

“Your sister told us everything. I can’t believe you did all that behind our backs. You fooled us, I don’t wanna know if you’re really pregnant or not. What you did behind our backs is enough to convince me, you’re not the daughter I have been living with.”

“You told her?” I didn’t know what mattered anymore, proving I was not pregnant or convincing my parents I was a different person now.

“Yes, Chloe. Oh, mom, I forgot to also tell you your perfect daughter started dating at fourteen and her fourth boyfriend got her involved in drugs, oh and she snuck out every night to see her sixth boyfriend who tried to rappe her.”

She smiled sweetly at me when she was done talking.

My heartbeat stopped and my tears stilled. I turned my head slowly to look at my sister, the person I trusted the most to share my secrets.

All I could see was red, If someone told me the person I was staring at was my sister, I would’ve laughed and called the person crazy.

My sister crossed her heart not to tell anyone especially my parents, it was something I never wanted to recall, I had nightmares for months after that h©rrifying incident.

But she just spilled it like I didn’t cry my eyes out that night to the point I had a fever.

I heard my mom gasp and I could feel her eyes on me.

“Is it true? Did all that really happen?”
I swallowed and nodded.

She went pale, she covered her mouth with her hand to suppress the sound of her cry.

“Mom…”
I tried to touch her but she stepped back.

“I’m sorry.”

“Before you leave, just know we’ve cut you off. You don’t need us in your life anymore. I don’t even know who you are, leave and never come back.”

“I do mom.”
What about my trust fund? Was she going to take that away too? That was the least of my worries but I wanted to know.

“I hope he makes you happy.”
She said and headed for the door, I ran to hold her back but Ciara got in the way.

“Mom, please.”
I tried to push past my sister

“Mom!”
I screamed but she shut the door.

I stiffened and stared at the door like I could see through it, I wasn’t ready to accept the fact they just kicked me out.

I pulled away from my sister’s hold and stared at her, she looked like a villain.

“Why now? You promised!”

“Why?”
She stepped forward.

“Remember I told you I was dating Sofie’s cousin.”
I knew where this was going.

“He dumped me over the phone immediately he got the news, according to him, he couldn’t date someone related to the person that made his family a source of mockery.”

“You didn’t have to go this far!”
I snapped, I didn’t care if she was five years older than me.
If she hadn’t said that I would have gotten a chance to convince my mom.

“He was going to propose Chloe!”
I went mute.

“Sofie told me he was going to propose when he returns from Australia.”
She sobbed.

“But then he heard what happened at the wedding. You just had to take my happiness for yours.”

She was being ridiculous.

“You really believe I’m pregnant?”
I asked softly.

“I don’t know what to believe anymore, you were never who you said you were from the beginning, pretending to be the perfect daughter in front of mom and dad when behind their backs you’re wild and crazy.”

“If you don’t believe me, we can go to the hospital together and run a pregnancy test.”

“Stop it already! I have my own life to worry about. I lost my best friend today, my four years boyfriend too and now a sister.”

“What?” I mumbled.
She bit her lower lip and stared at her feet.

“Ciara?”

“I hope you’re happy.”
She turned to leave but I held her back.

“Don’t leave me too, please speak to mom and dad.”

“You chose this path right from when you turned fourteen.”

“I changed when I met Grey, you know that.”

“I don’t know you!”
She said and pulled her hand away.

“Ciara, wait.”
And she was gone, I ran to the door and knocked

“Mom! Dad! Ciara! Please let me in.”
I pounded my fists on the door

“It’s not true. I’m still a vrgin!”
No one came.

“I’m still your daughter, you can’t just kick me out.”
I cried deeply.

“Please.”

I leaned on the door and slid slowly to the ground, I broke down. There was no need for a pregnancy test.

I waited hoping someone would open the door and let me back into the house but no one came.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

An hour passed and I was still waiting, my neighbours pulled into their driveway and stared at me when they got down from their car.

I expected them to walk up to me and ask something and maybe help but they walked straight into their house.
They weren’t just my neighbours, I was their babysitter.

I picked my phone from my purse and called my sister but she rejected the call.
I was about calling my mom when a sleek black SUV stopped in front of my house.

A man that looked to be in his middle forties came out of the car.
His bald head was combed to the center and he was short, I guess he was 5,1.

He adjusted his tux and walked toward my house, I cocked a brow at him as he got closer.

He didn’t climb the steps, he gave me a firm smile and stood straight like he was being controlled, I noticed the white gloves in his hands.

“Hi, I’m Morris.”
His accent was hard to place.

“Can I help you?”

“I’m here for Miss Chloe Simpson.”
I stared at him closely.

“Are you a journalist?”

“No.”
He answered with the same look.

“Then what do you want?”

“Mr. Sanchester sent me to get you.”

“Tristan?”

“I believe that’s his first name.”

“Why?”

“He was informed your parents kicked you out so he sent me to come and pick you.”

I closed my eyes and rested my head on the door. It seemed my parents didn’t plan on letting me back into the house, I could crash at his place for a few days and try to get him to tell everyone the truth. I was not going to place charges or take a pregnancy test until I figure out his reason, and my family won’t take me back even if they knew the truth. They knew what I did, it didn’t matter if Tristan lied or not.

I stood up and faced my house.
“I will be back.”
I whispered.

I turned around and found my suitcases gone, Morris was waiting for me.
Gosh, he was weird.

I walked to the car and took the back seat. I stared at my house as we pulled out of my driveway.
A tear dropped, I saw my sister staring at me from her room.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

My phone rang as my house disappeared from my vision, I reached for it quickly wishing it was my sister or my mom or my dad calling me to come back home but I felt disappointed when I saw it was my best friend, Belvina.

“Hey Vina,” I said weakly.

“Are you really pregnant for Tristan Sanchester?”

“No!”
I heard her exhale in relief.

“But is it true? The whole love thing?”

“Of course not.”

“I was telling my parents he was lying but they won’t even listen to me, are you okay?”

“No, my parents kicked me out.”
She gasped.

“They believed that handsome devil? I was kinda convinced at the beginning, wow he is good.”
I could tell she was eating from the way she spoke. I didn’t want to tell her the real reason I got kicked out.

“So what are you gonna do?”

“I’m going to his place and I’m going to try everything possible to make him tell the truth.”

“Do you know why he did it?”

“He won’t tell me.”
To be honest a part of me felt relieved and happy that someone believed it was a lie.

“I love you, Chloe, please don’t go on YouTube, the comments there will lead you to suicide”

“It’s on YouTube?”

“Yup,5M views already.”
I groaned and moved my already messy hair back.

“My parents warned me to stay away from you, can you imagine that?”
She said and chuckled.

“Well, too bad I’m addicted to you.”
I smiled like she could see me.

“We’ll make that shithole pay for what he did, we’ll fix this.”

“Thanks, Vina, I feel better now.”

“Me too, I was so worried about you after I saw the news.”

“Could you try and speak to my parents?”

“Sure, why not?”

“Thanks.”

“I will call you later, my mom is back from the store.”

“Ok.”
I sighed lowly and dropped my phone.

The rest of the ride was silent, I almost fell asleep.
I didn’t know when we arrived till Morris came to open my side of the door.

I came down and looked in front of me at the luxurious glasshouse. I tried not to gape at the building as we went inside.

Everything inside looked expensive and in order, I could see my reflection from the sparkly floor.
An exquisite interior that one could stare at for hours.
I was in a bad mood so I didn’t bother looking around.

I took a seat and stared at the large screen TV, I still felt sad and angry even if talking with Belvina eased some of it.

I felt so broken, all it took was a lie in church for my life to take another turn.
I still couldn’t believe my parents kicked me out, cut me off and my sister denied me.

I took off my shoes and leaned back on the seat.

“Your suitcases are in your room, would you like something to drink?”

“No.”
I wanted to know his real job here but I decided when I was less frustrated I’d ask.

“Where is he?”

“He’s out with a friend.”
So he was hanging out with his friend while I suffer the effect of his lies.

“Morris.”

“Yes, Miss Simpson.”

“Please call me, Chloe.”

“I don’t think I can do that, Miss.”
I didn’t have time to argue, I will deal with that later.

“What does your boss treasure most in this house?”

“The paintings on each wall, they’re very expensive and mean a lot to him and his achievements like awards from around the world.”

“Could you bring them all here?”

“Sorry?”

“I want all the paintings and awards here, now.”
He waited for some time and left.

“You messed with the things I treasured most, I will mess with yours.”
I knew I couldn’t compare both but I needed to cool off and smashing those paintings and awards seemed like a good solution.

I stood up when he was done gathering everything, I smashed each painting to pieces.

I smashed the awards on the glass table breaking it in the process. I broke more things as I recalled what happened in the church and at home.

The place was a mess when I was done and I was panting from the work.

I slumped on the couch and looked at Morris, he looked h©rrified. He reached for his phone and made a call.

Just what I needed.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I stared blankly at what I had done and to be honest I wasn’t satisfied.
I heard footsteps, it sounded like whoever it was was running.

“Well, that was quick.”
I said as Tristan appeared, his hair was tousled at the top and he was still in his wedding suit but the jacket was gone only the white button-up long sleeve that still had sharp creases. A handsome being stood behind him, that must be the friend he was out with.

He was tall like Tristan and his dark hair contrasted with his grey eyes, he reminded me of a sexy male model I once had a crush on.

“Sht!”
His jaw dropped when he saw the mess I made, I was impressed.

Tristan looked like he just saw a ghost, his lips parted slowly in confusion then closed back like he didn’t know what to say.

He ran his hand down his face with a low growl, his eyes darted to my direction.

“What did you do?”
Was he blind?

“Well, I was fuming in rage when I got here and I needed to cool off so I came across these ugly paintings and the awards, and you know the rest.”
I flashed him a fake smile.

“Ugly?”
He cocked a brow at me and stared at me like I was too dumb to differentiate between beans and pebbles.

“Do you know how valuable each of those paintings was?”
I stood up and took slow steps toward him.

“Valuable?”
I was on the verge of exploding, I felt something pierce my foot but I ignored it and moved closer.

“Are you comparing my life to that piece of crap?”
I didn’t want to feel intimated by his height so I maintained a safe distance between us.

“You went overboard!”

“You were the one that went overboard Tristan, you took your lie too far!”

Wow, I was yelling at someone ten years older than me, I never saw this day coming.

“I have my reasons, Chloe.”
He grunted.

“What stupid reason? You destroyed my life and you’re getting mad over some lame paintings and awards?”
I saw his jaw hardened, man, they were sharp.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

“I want my life back, you have to fix this!”
He was quiet but he was staring at me like he was thinking of ways to murder me.

“I don’t care about your reasons. I am not interested, I want my family back, I want my boyfriend back!!”
I screamed the last part.

“I can’t, not now,” he said in a calm tone.

“Huh?”
I didn’t care about his height anymore, I stepped closer.

“You can’t?” I laughed shaking my head, this whole thing was driving me ¢razy.
They all looked confused as they watched me, they were probably wondering if they should call for an ambulance to ship me to a psychiatric hospital.

“You don’t own my life, Tristan, you have no right to say whatever you want about my life!”
I poked his chest with each sentence, it was so hard that I was scared it would fracture my finger.

“Fix this, I can’t be your puppet!”
He looked down at me with those alluring blue eyes I wished God gave someone worth it like Grey, I wasn’t implying that Grey’s eyes were ugly, I was saying it would suit him better.

“No, I will when I want to.”
He said sounding so serious.

“When you want to?”
Was this dude for real?

“You know what? I don’t care about what other people think but you’re going to tell my parents the truth.”

Even if it won’t change anything.

I rushed to get my phone, there was a slight pain beneath my foot.

“You’re bleeding.”
I heard a deep voice from behind, I was dmn sure it didn’t belong to Tristan or Morris.

I looked back at his friend and he pointed at my bloody footprint, I rolled my eyes and returned to my search.
I picked my phone and returned to Tristan whose eyes were on the destroyed paintings and awards.

I could tell he was really angry but he wasn’t showing much.

“Here is my mom’s number, you can lie to everyone but I need my family back.”
I outstretched my phone to him but he was still staring at the mess.

“How did you get all the paintings and awards?”

I moved the phone closer to his face in response.

He collected it and just when a smile was about to form on my face, he threw the phone across the room.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I watched my phone shatter on the floor. I just got that phone last month!!! But I pretended not to be upset.

“Okay, good thing I have their number up here.”
I pointed to my head.

I saw his phone peeking out of his front pocket, he grabbed my hand when I reached for it.

“You can break whatever you want, however, you want. I will tell everyone the truth when the time comes, stop trying already.”
He was still calm.

I pulled my hand away and stepped back as I glared at him. He was doing this because no one would believe me, did he have magical powers?

“I need a glass of water, I will be right back.”

“I will get….”

“I will do it myself”
I almost snapped at Morris, poor Morris.

“She’s cute.”
I heard his friend say as I headed for the kitchen. I knew I was just a little girl in their eyes and only God knew what experiment they were using me for.

I tried not to admire the big kitchen as I opened the cabinets. I was greeted with fine china plates.

I started dropping each on the floor breaking it, I dropped more and opened the next cabinet.

He said I could break whatever I wanted, he would watch me destroy this beautiful house of his.

Morris was the first to run into the kitchen then Tristan’s friend.

“Hey.”
Tristan’s friend called coming closer but I threw more breakable things on the floor, pretending not to hear him.

“Chloe, stop.”
I was going to show them they chose the wrong girl.

“That ba$tard thinks he can mess with my life.”
I kept stepping on each piece as I walked, my feet had deep cuts already but I wasn’t concerned about that right now.

“Chloe.”
He was starting to annoy me, I stopped myself from throwing the plates in my hand at him.

I backed him as I searched the next cabinet, I knew how expensive they were and even if it meant nothing to him, at one point he would get frustrated.

The next cabinet greeted me with beautiful sets of cups, it looked unique and kinda vintage.

“Don’t even think about it.”
I heard Tristan’s voice, he finally showed up.
I picked the set and faced him.

“Chloe, drop those cups please.”
His friend pleaded.

What was so special about the cups anyway. Morris was giving me a signal to leave the cups.

“Go ahead and break anything else but not those cups.”
I sensed something in his voice and he was begging me with his eyes.

Why didn’t Morris mention the cups, if breaking these cups was going to hurt him then I’d gladly destroy it.

“My life is more precious than these cups.”
I said and let go, I gasped in fake surprise.

“Oops!”
I said dramatically.

Tbc.

Am going to tell everyone the truth when am ready hmmmm this one got me ,after ruining someone’s daughter’s life.
