A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

? Chapter 6

“You’re not denying it.”

“Can we not talk about last night, please?”

“Of course.”

“I’m curious about one thing though.”

“What?”

“What do you mean you got carried away?”

“Well, when our lips touched, I wanted to know what you taste like?”

“And?” I pressed trying not to blush.

“You tasted like toothpaste.”
He said with a funny look, we both burst into loud laughter.

“It’s not my fault, I just finished brushing.”
I said when I got a grip on myself.

“So you’re saying you taste better?” he smirked.

“I’m not having this conversation and you tasted like the wine we had at dinner.”

“Then I tasted good.”
I shook my head at his cockiness.

“Why are you here? Aren’t you suppose to be at work?”

“Tristan said he is too tired to drive and since Morris has to be here for you, I’m his only choice.”

“I love your suit.”

“I know,” He dusted his shoulders with swag and did a popular pose.

“Please lock your cocky side away.”
He laughed.

“I will take you down, Tristan is still not well.”

“Liar but this is the last time you’re helping him.”

“Yes ma’am,” He said with a bow.

“I might ruin your beautiful suit.”

“It’s okay, the suit came with two jackets.”

“Ohh.”
He gathered me in his arms and we left the room.

“Your Cologne is addictive, is it weird to use men’s perfume, like for a lady?” I asked.

“Thanks and no, I find it sexy for a lady to use men’s cologne. It’s like wearing his shirt.”

“Right, I guess you don’t mind bringing me this particular one on you.”

“Chloe Simpson, are you flirting with me?”

“You wish,” I hit his shoulder and he laughed.

“Fine, I will bring it to you. Is there anything else you need from me?”

“Yes, your dimples.”

He laughed as we got off the last step.

Morris was setting breakfast on the dining when we arrived.

“Good morning, Miss Simpson.”

“Morning Morris.”
I gave him a wide smile.

“How are you feeling?”

“I’m good.”
He gave me a smile and left for the kitchen.

“Uhmm waffles,” I moaned.
I heard footsteps behind me and I knew it was Tristan, I could smell his Cologne from where I was sitting. My nose was very sensitive, don’t blame me.

“Thanks for coming man.”
He took the seat facing me, he was wearing a grey suit with a black tie.
His hair was unkempt but it looked good on him.

I noticed some bruises around his right wrist that were exposed, there was also a little cut almost close to the back of his palm.

Like he noticed I was staring, he pulled his sleeve down covering it. I looked up and our eyes locked, he gave me a weird look at first then concealed it with a smile.

He looked away and faced Adrian and they started talking about a board meeting.

I stared at him for a long time before looking away, I was starting to have a bad feeling about all of this.

I spent my afternoon in my room doing my last project, Morris came every ten minutes to check on me.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

On the eighth day, we went back to the hospital and my feet got checked, it felt better. No pain and only a few scars were left behind. We returned the wheelchair and took a walk down the hallway to exercise my legs that I hadn’t used in a while.

It felt like I was walking for the first time in a very long time. I was relieved I could finally return to school, I had missed a lot.

I got my things ready for school for the next day and watched new releases on Netflix.

Adrian didn’t show up today so I was stuck with Tristan who made me a little uneasy after the bruises I saw a few days back.

I wanted to know what was going on in his head, that had been my biggest wish so far.
There was just something about him, he seemed to be in a world no one was part of.

He didn’t like being around me, he always had a scowl on his face when he saw me. It just made me more curious about his reasons, only a few days left and I’d be out of here.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I stared at his wrist during dinner and the bruises were gone but the cut was still visible.

“How did it go at the hospital?”
He asked drawing my attention away from his wrist.

I was surprised he asked, he probably did it to distract me.

“Great, it went well.”
He nodded and kept staring at me, he looked away when Morris came to drop a bowl of salad.

What was his secret? Why destroy your wedding? I asked myself still staring at him. Tristan was a handsome being, too good-looking for my liking.

“If you don’t feel like eating then leave,” He told me looking pissed.

“Are you talking to me?”
I asked looking around me.

He said something beneath his breath and continued eating.

“Are you by any chance having an affair? Is that why you stopped the wedding? And when you didn’t find your Mistress in the church, you picked me?”
I asked leaning closer on the table.

“Oh God,” he grunted biting on his lower lip, he gave me a mean look and stood up.

“I will have my breakfast in my room tomorrow morning.”
He told Morris and headed for the stairs.

“Thanks for the chicken!”
I yelled after him as I took it from his plate.

I smiled coyly at Morris who was trying not to laugh.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

To be honest, I was nervous about going back to school. Morris gave me a warm smile when he parked the car in front of my school.

“What time are you closing?”

“5:30. I have two lectures today.”

“Okay, have a nice day, Miss Simpson.”

“You too, Morris.”
I got down from the car and headed for the entrance, few heads were already turning in my direction but not many.

At least not everyone was interested in some stupid gossip.

“Hey!” Belvina screamed waving. I smiled and ran to her then gave her a rib breaking hug.

I missed her so much, she was the only sensible person that believed me. She hugged me back tightly, it lasted longer than I expected.

“You smell so good, I don’t wanna let go.”
She grunted.

“I miss you too.”
I said pulling away while she frowned.

“Is it just me or is your skin glowing?”

“Oh please, my skin has always been like this.”

“Just so you know everyone knows your parents kicked you out.”
She said as we walked into the building.

“Of course, this is Beverly Hills.”
I mumbled.

We walked into our lecture hall and took our seats, the hall was almost full.

“How is Adrian?”
She whispered nudging me with her shoulder like she was dancing.

“Get lost.”
I pushed her back with my shoulder and she chuckled.

“Is she still allowed to come to school after what she did?”
I heard someone whisper behind me. I knew that voice, it belonged to Claire Bluewater. Our parents were kind of close but Claire and I were the opposite.

“I can’t believe she’s pregnant.”
Her friend, Davina added.

“Of all people her sister’s best friend? How shallow.”
Claire said close to my ear. No one in the class cared but Claire and Davina planned to ruin my day.

“Good thing her parents kicked her out.”
Davina grimaced.

I clenched my fists and snapped my head around, they both went quiet.

“Do you mind? I’m trying to study here.”
I said with a smile.

They whispered something into each other’s ear and laughed.

I stood up ready to beat the living daylight out of them but our Professor walked in.

“Try and calm down, don’t let them get to you.”
Belvina whispered squeezing my arm in an assuring gesture.

No one in the room cared about anything going on but few people were throwing looks my way.

“Morning Class.”

“Morning, Professor Clark.”

“I can see Miss Simpson decided to join us today.”o
He didn’t have to make my presence known, seriously. He knew me so well because of Vina. We always interrupt his lectures with our noise and Vina’s stupid questions to annoy him even if she knew the answer to her question.

He always reminded me of Courage the cowardly dog. Something about the way he spoke.

“Watch and see, she might have a thing for Professor Clark.”
Davina whispered to Claire loud enough for me to hear.

“Yeah, I mean he’s hot.”
Claire said close to my ear again.

Belvina held me back when I wanted to turn around.

There was no way I was attending this class. The crickets behind me were driving me ¢razy, if Vina wasn’t holding me back I would’ve turned around and rearranged their face with my fists.

“I will borrow your note later.”
I told Belvina and stood up.

She nodded and sent a killer look behind her. Claire and Davina smiled in return.

I clenched my fists and walked down the aisle.

“I’m not feeling too well.”
I said to Mr. Clark.

I tried to calm down as I walked down the large hallway that was a bit crowded.

Someone yanked my arm from behind and pulled me to a hidden corner. I was pushed to the wall so hard that my back hurt.

Great, it was Ralph, Sofia’s little brother that shared a class with me. He was once obsessed with me and tried to make me date him but I turned him down.

“You $lut!” He snarled.

“Ralph, let go.”

“You ruined my family, you think you’re gonna get away with that?”
I wasn’t sure if this was just about Sofia, this was his opportunity to hurt me for turning him down a couple of times in the past.

“Is that why you refused to date me? Because you’re into older guys?”
There you go.

“Ralph, let go!”
I tried to push him off but he pressed me harder to the wall.

“You disgust me.”
He spat at my face. I wanted to knee him in the cr©tch but he saw it coming and I missed.

“Nice try,” he pressed my body to the wall.

“I just want to squeeze that thing growing inside of you.”
He poked my stomach with one finger, it was a br.utal poke that felt like he was $tabbing me.

“Do you know what my sister is going to throw?”
His nails dug into my skin with his grip.

“Ralph, you’re hurting me.”
I wished I could free my arms and leave a fist mark on his ugly face. Thanks to my parents for turning down self-defence lessons.

“I don’t care.”

“Let her go, Ralph.”
Grey’s voice came from the corner.

“You still wanna be on her side after what she did to you?”

Grey stepped closer and pushed him away from me.

I adjusted my top and stared at both of them with tears at the corner of my eyes.

“Don’t be a fool Ashton, she used you.”

“I know, leave her alone and don’t touch her again.”

I raised my fist to punch Ralph but Grey stopped me.

“It’s not his fault, he is upset.”
He said calmly and walked away without looking back at me.

Ralph glared at me and walked away, I thought of going to the school board to report but changed my mind.

I stared at Grey for a while before walking out of the building, he was the last person I expected to come to my rescue.

Morris was surprised when I called him, he didn’t ask me anything during the ride home and I appreciated that.

I cried throughout the ride, Morris kept glancing at me through the rearview mirror.
He gave me a white handkerchief and I collected it.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

We walked in silence into the house and I could tell Morris wanted to ask me something.

“Can I have a bottle of Vodka and a knlfe?”

“A knlfe?”
He looked alarmed.

“Yes.”
He hesitated for a while before going to the wine cellar.

I waited at the dining, he brought everything I asked for but he looked reluctant as he gave me.

“Don’t worry about me.”

“Where is Tristan’s room?”
I asked gripping the knlfe tightly.

“The room at your left.”

“Thanks.”
I sniffed and headed for the stairs.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I walked into Tristan’s room, his room lacked colour. Grey dominated the room, it was spacious and had a good view of the yard from the floor-to-ceiling glass wall.

I searched for his closet, it was next to the bathroom. It was big and the clothes were neatly arranged in different colours, brands and styles.

I held the knlfe in my hand and thought of where to start, his suits.

I guess you know the rest, yes! I ripped his clothes with the knlfe, well not all of them cause I got tired.

I slumped on the floor in the walk-in closet and sobbed. I could still feel Ralph’s hands on me, I could still hear their voices in my head.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

After a while, I wiped my tears away and stood up. If there was an easy way to rip out Tristan’s heart I would have done it. I could use this knlfe and slice his heart into tiny pieces, spice it, cook it and give to his family as a gift.

I $tripped and grabbed one sweatshirt that was neatly folded above. The red sweatshirt was comfy, I walked out of the closet with the bottle of Vodka. I sat down on the floor and leaned on the wall.

I opened the drink and took big gulps, I grabbed my phone and went on YouTube.
The video was still trending, it seemed to be the latest gossip. I braced myself and went through the comments.

I needed to drown my sorrows, there were like two thousand comments.

I was called a wh©re, a big disappointment to my family, greedy bch and some insults I didn’t even know existed.
Many people thought I wanted his money, make sense but I was from a wealthy family, I really didn’t care about his money.

I took more gulps and laughed at some of the comments, they were so stupid, did these people have any milk when they were little?

“Chloe!” I heard Adrian scream my name then the door was pushed open with so much force, I was scared the glass would break.

Tristan rushed in with Adrian behind him.

“Thank God.”
Tristan said sounding relief, they were both panting with their hand placed on their chests.

I guessed Morris told them, I glared at them and took another swig. Adrian ran his palm down his face and walked past Tristan who was leaning on the wall and staring at the ceiling.

I took more Vodka and I was starting to feel the effect in my body.
I stood up with the knife and my eyes on Tristan.

“This is all your fault!!!”
I screamed running towards him with the knife but Adrian held me back.

“Let me go, Adrian!!!”
I struggled in his arms.

“Chloe, calm down.”

“Don’t tell me what to do. He ruined everything for me, just let me kill him! Please.”

“You’re drunk, you don’t know what you’re doing.”

“I don’t care, I want him dead!”
I said with a killer look but Tristan just stared at me with a blank look and not taking any move.

I stopped struggling as my head started acting weird.

“Are you okay?”
Adrian checked my body like he was searching for something. I was wearing Tristan’s sweats with only my undies under.

“Yeah,” I slurred.

“Give me the knife?” he collected it from my hand.
I was starting to feel dizzy.

Tristan walked into his closet and returned with one ripped shirt. I giggled and picked the bottle to take a gulp but Adrian collected it.

“That’s enough.”
I wanted to argue but I slowly blacked out.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 1 – 10

I woke up with a stubborn headache, I opened my eyes with a groan.

Adrian and Tristan were sitting on the couch in front of me, staring at me with that look your parents give you when you do something bad.

I sat up, trying to recall what happened. I rubbed my temple to ease the pain.

“How are you feeling?”

“My head hurts.”
I hugged my knees and stared at them with my head resting on my knees, their suit jackets were nowhere to be seen.
Tristan’s sleeves were folded at the elbow while Adrian’s first three buttons were undone.

“I will get you some aspirin.”
Adrian offered and left.

“What happened at school?”
He looked calm, I didn’t know if he was mad about his clothes but if he was then he was doing a good job hiding it.

I thought of what happened in the hallway, it still sent a chill through my body.

“Chloe,” Tristan called sounding concerned.

“What happened?” He asked more softly this time.

“What do you think happened? I was labelled a wh©re, people said awful things about me even my friends, to sum it all, some moron harassed me in the hallway!”
I screamed with tears in my eyes, my head ached more.

“Give me the name of that moron.”

“It’s Sofia’s younger brother.”

“Ralph,” He said in a knowing tone.

“I’m pressing charges against him, don’t worry about him.”

“Everything is so easy for you, isn’t it?”
His jaw clenched at my words, he avoided my eyes.

“If it was, you wouldn’t be here.”
He said softly under his breath, I sensed sadness.

“Let it be, he got what he wanted.”
I said and released a deep breath.

Adrian entered the room with a glass of water and two pills.

“Thanks.”
Tristan told Adrian what happened while I took the pills.

“So are you going back?”
Adrian asked.

“No, I thought I could handle it but it’s too much.”

“How about signing up for online classes, I will take care of the payment.”
Tristan suggested.

“Sounds good.”

“I will help you with that tomorrow.”
I smiled at Adrian, he was too sweet.

“I’m really sorry, Chloe.”
Tristan stood up and left the room, the expression on his face was hard to read but I knew he felt bad about what happened.

“Did he hurt you?”

“A little,” I rolled up the hand of the sweatshirt up and showed him the mark Ralph left with his fingers.

“Tristan is gonna kill him.”

“I don’t know what he would’ve done to me if Grey hadn’t stopped him.”

“Your ex?”.
