A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 21 – 30

Chapter 23

I parked the car in front of the hospital and looked at my face in the mirror before coming out of the car.

I walked to the receptionist in the lobby wearing a smile.

“Hi, where can I find Mrs. Juliet Sanchester?”

“When was she brought here?”

“This morning.”
She typed loudly on the keyboard with her long fingers, her nails were painted blue with tiny white daisy flowers for extra details.

“And who are you to her?”

“A family friend.”

“8th floor, room 25.”

“Okay, thanks.”
I smiled at her but she didn’t return it, her grey eyes looked annoyed.

“Here.”
She gave me a visitor’s card.

I went straight to the elevator filled with three nurses and a small kid.

I searched for room 25 when I got to the 8th floor, it was down the hallway at the left.

I adjusted the jeans I was wearing and the big beige knitted sweater.
I opened the door and every head turned to my direction.

“Hi everyone.”
I said with a small wave and shut the door.

Nana came to hug me, Nora smiled at me from where she sat reading a gossip magazine.
Tristan didn’t spare me a look, he sat next to his mom holding her like if he let go he’d lose her.

Mrs. Sanchester was still asleep, she looked pale.

“How is she?”
I asked Nana.

“She is better, the Doctor said she will be discharged tomorrow, don’t worry it was nothing serious.”

I took a glance at Tristan, he was still holding her hand and staring at her face.

“He hasn’t said a word since we got here.”
Nana whispered.

“You should take him out for a little air, I’m sure he’d listen to you.”

“Uhm…I don’t think he will want that, maybe later.”

“Okay.”

I walked to Nora and sat next to her on the brown couch.

“Hey, you didn’t go to school today?”

“Mom is sick.”

We stayed till she woke up. We spoke to her for an hour before a nurse came and informed us to leave, so she could rest.

“You guys head home, I will drop mom off tomorrow before I leave for work.”
Tristan spoke for the first time since I arrived.

“Goodnight, Chloe.”
Nora waved and trailed behind the Chauffeur.

“Take good care of yourself and the baby.”
Nana hugged me and gave me a peck, she did the same to Tristan before leaving.

I slumped on the nearest seat and ran my palms down my thighs to my knees.
My limbs felt numb and my back ached from today’s event. I leaned back on the seat and allowed my shoulders to relax.

He took the seat next to me, I felt his eyes on me. I turned my face away and watched a male nurse play with a small boy that looked three, so cute.

My stomach growled reminding me I hadn’t eaten the whole day. I hugged it with one arm hoping it would block the unpleasant sound.

I shut my eyes tightly as my stomach grumbled again, I wondered why we were still at the hospital, it was almost 10 pm.

Tristan stood up and came to stand in front of me, I looked anywhere else but at him.

“There’s a restaurant close by, let’s go and get something to eat.”
His voice was calm.

“I’m fine.”
I muttered, not looking at him, he reached out to grab my hand but I snapped.

“If you touch me, I’m going to scream.”
He dropped his hand.

He looked around before resting his eyes on me, I eyed him warily and looked away, my stubborn stomach growled again.

“Excuse me.”
I heard him say to a young nurse that was passing by.

“Yes?”
She smiled sweetly at him, her brown hair was roughly packed and her blue uniform looked too big on her.

“My girlfriend here has not eaten anything the whole day and she’s being stubborn, I’m worried about her health and that of the baby.”

Her eyes first moved to my stomach then my face, I gave her a stubborn look then shot a glare his way.

“It’s very wrong to starve yourself while you’re pregnant. I suggest you go with your boyfriend and get something to eat, we have a place you can get food here, I could take you there.”
They both waited for me to say something.

“She is very stubborn, maybe you should get a Doctor to convince her.”

“Or maybe you could get a Doctor to check if there is really a baby in here.”
I said daringly and pointed at my stomach.

“Huh?”
The nurse mumbled looking between us, he told her to leave.

He looked away and sat back, I hugged my stomach more to stop the next sound but didn’t succeed.

“You can go home, I will stay.”

“I’m not complaining.”
I said not looking his way.

Why was he finding it hard to apologize? Not like I’d accept his apology but come on, he didn’t even sound sorry for his actions yesterday.

It made me more upset and broke my poor heart, I stood up tired of waiting for his apology.

I left the hospital and took a short walk down the street, I sighed in relief when I saw Burger King.
I still had Tristan’s credit card, I made my way to the building. I turned away when I saw the number of people in the room.

I walked back to the hospital and drove home, Morris had already set the table with different food when I entered the house.

“Wow, how did you know I needed this?”
I asked smiling at him as I took a seat.

“Mr. Sanchester called and…”
He stopped talking immediately I dropped the spoon.

“Is something wrong, Miss Simpson?”

“No.”
I said forcing a smile, I picked up the spoon and ate the food. I wasn’t gonna let him ruin it for me.

I felt so heavy when I was done, I waited before going up to my room.
I undressed and went for a shower, I sat under the shower for twenty minutes just staring at the water that went down the drain.

Was I supposed to get used to this? Bad luck and heartbreak? Would Tristan ever open up to me?

I brushed my wet hair back and stood up, I washed my body and my hair.

I stared at my reflection in the mirror as I brushed, I was starting to hate it.
My blue eyes didn’t look bright anymore and my skin looked so pale.
I looked away and brushed quickly, I dried my body and left the bathroom.

I paused when I saw Tristan sleeping on my bed, he only had his pyjamas pants on with no shirt, I clenched my fist as I stared at him.

When did he get here? And who told him he could sleep in my room?

I didn’t have any strength left in me to argue with him, I changed into my sweater and sport shorts.

I grabbed one pillow and a spare blanket, I turned off the lights and laid on the couch.
I closed my eyes and forced myself to sleep.

I woke up when I felt something on my face, I opened my eyes and found Tristan staring at me, his thumb caressed my cheek.

He gave me a sad smile, his sleep bags were visible and he looked very tired.
I pushed his hand away and checked for the time, it was past two in the morning.

I turned away from him and tried to go back to sleep.

“I know I messed up and no matter what I say to you right now, it’s not going to ease the pain I caused you.”
He whispered.

“I’m sorry for taking my anger on you, I was blinded by rage when I said that but I don’t regret getting your ex arrested, ”
I didn’t say anything.

“Cassie?”
He touched my shoulder but I shrugged it off.

“I’m really sorry, I wish I could take those words back, you’re nothing like that, I don’t see you that way.”
I was still quiet.

I waited for him to tell me about Nadia.

“Please say something, I’m going crazy here,” he grunted.
I rolled my eyes even if he couldn’t see it.

“Chloe?”
I felt his breath close to my neck.

“Cassie?”
His lips were almost touching my skin.

I turned around and punched him square in the face. He groaned and stepped back, I stood up from the couch.

“You have to try harder Mr. Sanchester.”
I smiled sweetly at him then concealed it with a glare.

I left the room and slept in the guest room downstairs.

I walked to the dining the next day with a wide yawn, I smiled at Morris as I took the seat where he served my breakfast.

Tristan arrived already dressed for work in a dark suit that had gold buttons, it went with his expensive gold wristwatch.

He took the seat in front of me, I ate my food ignoring his presence.

We ate in silence for a while until he spoke.

“What exactly do you want, Cassie?”
That question got my attention.

“I stayed up thinking of what to do, I know deserved the punch in the face.”

My knuckle was still hurting, why did his bone get in the way?

“For you to stop being an ass and maybe try to open up to me. Is that too much to ask for Mr. Sanchester?”

“Stop calling me that?”

“Stop being a Jacka$s and go and apologize to Grey.”

“He deserved that.”

“You lied to the cops and put him in jail!”

“I was worried.”

“Worried, my bum.”

I stood up and left the dining.

A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 21 – 30

It was past eight in the evening when it started raining, I looked outside from my room watching the raindrops.

I smiled at the memory of me and my sister playing under the rain while my mom screamed our names. I wiped the tear that escaped from my right eye and dragged the drapes back.

I picked my phone and tried calling her again but she still had my line blocked.

I threw the phone on my bed and left the room, I needed to feel the rain on my skin, I missed the feeling. Who cares about the cold?

Morris watched me as I walked out of the building, my shoulders tensed when the rain touched me.

I smiled and looked up at the dark sky.

It whipped my face making me smile more, call me crazy but I still enjoyed playing under the rain. I outstretched one hand to catch some drops.

“What are you doing? Get back inside or you’ll catch a cold.”
I ignored Tristan’s voice from behind.

I kept smiling at the sky as the rain fell on me.

“Cassie?”
I was starting to like that name but it still annoyed me.

I heard his footsteps, soon he was behind me.

“Jeez, why are you so stubborn?”
He gripped my arm but I pulled away.

“Leave me alone!”

“If you wanna talk, we can do it inside.”

“Like you’re gonna say anything, you asked me what I wanted but you refused to do it, you’re just like a coward.”
His jaw hardened.

“That’s what you are Tristan, a coward.”
I looked him in the eyes, his height didn’t intimidate me one bit.

“What are you going to do now huh? Punch me like how you punch those innocent mirrors? Call me names?”
His fists clenched tightly, the veins in his arms now visible.

“I don’t get it, what is so important about this Nadia?”
I screamed throwing my hands in the air.

Well, it was now or never, I was going to piss him off till he says something.

“Why won’t you tell me about her? Why?!!”

“Why is her name tattooed on your skin? Is she somehow connected to your PTSD?”
He was still quiet.

The rain made his hair fall down his forehead, my eyes lingered at the ones that rolled down his plump lips, this was not the time to look sexy Tristan, I moved my eyes back to his eyes that held different emotions.

My clothes clung to my body making me aware of how drenched I was.

“Why won’t you let me help you?”
I asked with tears forcing to come out.

“She doesn’t exist! She is not real!”
He yelled.

“She doesn’t exist! She is not real!”
He yelled.

“What?”
I mumbled.

“But…you….she…how?”
I was so confused, it didn’t make any sense. Why would he snap every time I asked if she wasn’t real?

“She doesn’t exist. Not anymore.”
He said again this time sounding frustrated.

“What do you mean not anymore?”

“It’s just a random tattoo, ok?”

That was the stupid excuse he could come up with?

“What happened to her? I know it’s not just a random tattoo.”

I stepped closer. He looked away, finding it hard to say to me.

“You can talk to me Tristan, I won’t bite.”

“I can’t.”

He turned away from me and brushed his wet hair back.

“It hurts, it still does.”

I heard him say. For some weird reason, he sounded like he was about to cry. He turned around and looked at me.

“Hey.”
He said stepping closer, he brushed the baby hair that was sticking to my forehead to the side tenderly and took my face in his hand, they felt so cold at first but got warm later on my cheeks.

“Cassie,”
He whispered raising my face so I could look at him.

“I hate myself for hurting you. I know I have been an a$s but I want to be more for you, Cassie.”

“At first you were just this crazy girl I wished I never picked but you became more than that, I couldn’t help falling for your type of crazy. Ask me anything, I will answer but I’m not ready to talk about my tattoo.”

“No lies?”

“No lies.”
A smile formed slowly on my lips.

“How did you know I was at Grey’s and what did you tell the cops to get him arrested?”

“I didn’t leave you that night, I parked my car close to the bus stop and tried to think of the right words to say to you after fking up. I watched you from the car, I saw your ex walk up to you and I felt this anger I couldn’t explain. I watched you two walk away and I felt like I just lost the most important thing in my life,”

Wow, was I still speaking to Tristan or someone else?

“I stayed in the car arguing with myself if I was worth another chance or if whatever I felt for you was real. I came out of the car and searched for you but I didn’t find you, I asked around but no luck. I tried calling you but you refused to pick my calls, so I called Adrian and told him what happened. He told me not to call the cops but I was too angry to listen to anyone,”

“I went to the cops and told them, I saw him take you. They tracked your phone and that was how we found you.”

“Why did the cops refuse to listen to me?”

“I told them you had Amnesia,” he looked embarrassed.

“Wow, just wow.”

“I’m sorry.”

“You called me a whore, Tristan.”

“I swear to you, I didn’t mean it. I was so mad at you for going back to your ex. I hate myself for saying that.”

“I hate you too for saying that, I wanted to break every piece of you,” I said.

“I’m really sorry. Don’t make me apologize to your ex.”

I chuckled at his desperate look. He smiled and took my right hand.

“I don’t wanna be that guy that makes you cry, I want to be the guy that put a smile on your face every day. I care about you and I hate that I hurt you, I have become so attached to you than I ever imagined and I don’t wanna ruin that, Cassandra.”

“Is there a camera somewhere?” I asked looking around.

“You didn’t have to ruin the moment and that was me being romantic.”

“You ruined it first by calling me, Cassandra.”

“I like Cassandra, it’s a sweet name.”

“Mr. Sanchester sounds sweet too.”

“My middle name is Nolan.”

“I like Mr. Sanchester, it suits your broody personality.”
He laughed softly, silence surrounded us after his sweet laughter ceased.

“I’m dying to kss you right now. It’s been so long.”
He whispered softly with his eyes glued to my lips.

He moved one hand to my chin and traced my lips with his thumb. It sent sweet currents through my body.

“Prove to me you’re worth it,” I said huskily with a smirk.

He raised my chin and took my lips in a slow kss. His hand moved slowly to the nape of my neck, I returned every one of it.

The rain had never felt better on my skin. I loved the feeling, his lips on mine and the rain on my skin, it felt like heaven.
