A LIAR AT THE ALTAR: CHAPTER 21 – 30

Chapter 26

“Hey, Tristan.”

“Where is Cassie?”

“How rude, you can’t even say hello.”

“Is Cassie okay?”

“She is sleeping, she is not feeling too well.”

“I will send Morris to come and carry her to the hospital.”

“It’s just a headache, she is just lying here snoring. Don’t worry about her.”

“I don’t snore.”
I said in a low tone.

“I have never heard her snore, ” I smiled when I heard Tristan say that.

“You still owe me a ‘hello’.”

“Hello, Belvina.”

“Better, Bye Tristan.”
She smiled and ended the call.

“Cassie?” She laughed.

“I don’t wanna talk about it.”

“He’s so sweet.”
She said, throwing my phone at me.

“Did he sound angry?”

“No, ” she said walking to the kitchen.

I closed my eyes and allowed the sleep to take me.

I woke up later on the sofa, I looked around for Vina but didn’t find her.

“Vina?”
I called standing up.

“Yeah, in the kitchen!”
I shuffled to the kitchen yawning.

“I heard you snore, I’m not lying.”
She said as I took a seat at the Island, I grabbed two cookies from the jar in the middle and ate noisily.

“Tristan called, like multiple times.”

“Did you answer it?”

“No.”

“Good.”
I said and took more cookies.

“Hungry?”

“Yesss.”
She giggled stirring whatever she was cooking on the gas cooker.

“What time is it?”

“Almost 8 pm.”

“Is the food ready?”
I asked, eating more cookies.

“Almost.”
My ringtone blared in the room when she answered.

“Tristan again?”

“No, it’s Adrian.”
Her eyes lit up like Christmas lights, she turned off the gas cooker and came closer.

“Hey, Adrian. What’s up?”

“Are you home?”

“No?”

“I forgot to tell you something. If you notice any unusual behaviour in Tristan, don’t pressure him just give him space.”

“Why? Did you tell him I…”

“No, you know I won’t do that.”

“Then what happened?”

“Today is the saddest day for him, it’s his birthday.”

“Tristan’s birthday? And you’re just telling me.”

“Don’t throw any party or wish him a happy birthday, he’ll flip. I just wanted you to know.”

“So, you guys never celebrate his birthday?”

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

“Good night, Chloe. Please don’t do anything you’ll regret.”
He told me and ended the call.

“I hate it when he does that, ” I groaned.

“His voice is so sexy, ” Vina said beside me.

“I’m going to get a cake and some balloons, ” I said standing up.

“Chloe, you heard him.”

“Yeah but I’m not gonna sit around and watch his birthday pass.”

“You’re so stubborn.”

“I can’t help it, ” I said with a wink.

“Would you like me to come with you? Things might not go well.”

“With Tristan, you never know what to expect. I will be fine, goodnight.”

I gave her a hug and a kiss.

“If you don’t call me before midnight, I’m calling 911.”

“Buenas Noches.”
She said waving. I took more cookies before leaving.

The ride back to the house was just me arguing with myself. I looked beside me at the cake and the three balloons behind me.

I didn’t see Morris when I entered the house, maybe he went to visit his family.

I went upstairs to check if Tristan was home. I opened the door and found the room empty.

I took off my sandals and wore my slippers. I went back downstairs and waited. I got bored and opened the wine. I sipped the wine as I waited.

I had a feeling it won’t be as bad as Adrian mentioned. He didn’t sound angry on the phone when he called.

I heard the car outside, I stood up in a flash and grabbed the balloons. Soon, the door opened.

“Happy Birthday!!!”
I screamed as soon as I saw Tristan.

He looked surprised at first, it changed to anger when I started singing. Must be my voice, I hope.

“…happy birthday happy birth…”

“Stop.”
He said not sounding stone-cold as I expected.

“Who told you? My mom?”

“No.”

“Adrian, right?”

“No, I did some research.”
I lied and I swear he was about to laugh.

“You’re just too stubborn, Chloe.”
He said and walked away.

Chloe? Okay, I messed up again.

“What about the cake? You can’t say no to a cake.”
I screamed.

“Go to bed, Chloe.”

“Come on, it’s your birthday.”

“No, it’s the day I wish I died!”
He yelled, looking back at me.

I watched him get off the stairs. When I turned around, I saw Morris.

“He’ll come around.”
He said to me and left.

I sighed and grabbed a drink. I dawned one glass of the alcohol and poured more. Ciara once called me an alcoholic, maybe I was one.

The doorbell echoed in the building, I waited for Morris to show up since I was feeling too angry to face anyone.

I stood up to get the door since he was taking forever. I took one more gulp and walked to the front door.

I opened the door without checking the door camera.

“Grey?”

“I know it’s all a lie, I know you are not pregnant.”
He said breathlessly like he ran a marathon to get here.

“I know it’s all a lie, I know you’re not pregnant”

I stared at him not sure of what to say.

“Sorry, it took me so long to figure it out.”
I just smiled softly in response.

“Chlo.”
He moved closer and held my face in his hands

“I messed up big time, what I did was very stupid. I can’t imagine how hurt you felt that day, I should have stayed and fight for you. I should have proved to everyone that bastard was lying. I’m so sorry, Chloe.”
I pulled away putting some space between us.

He looked hurt and I could see the guilt in his eyes.

“It’s fine Grey, it’s in the past now.”
I said, avoiding his eyes.

“I’m probably the worse boyfriend on earth.”

“Was.”
I corrected.

“Right.”
He mumbled looked down at his feet then back at me.

“It’s all my fault, I should have done something. I was so stupid.”
He whispered.

“That ba$tard….”

“Don’t call him that.”
I cut in, he looked surprised.

“Chloe, he ruined your life, he took everything away from you. Are you happy here? Why did he do it? Did he tell you? Why is he keeping you here?!”
He screamed the last part.

“I don’t know but I’m glad to be far away from the people who broke my trust. The people I thought will fight for me.”
I said with my arms folded.

“You can move in with me, stop playing along with his lies. I will speak to your family, I will try and convince them.”

“Good luck with that.”
I heard Tristan’s deep voice from behind, it almost made me jump. I thought he was angry?

I saw Grey’s jaw clench and his hand fisted.

“Lying fking ba$tard!”
He spat.

“Grey, calm down.”

“Yeah, calm down.”
Tristan said wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.

“You have ten seconds to leave before I call the cops and charge you for trespassing, I’m sure you didn’t enjoy your last stay in there.”
He added leaning closer to my cheek, he pressed his lips to my cheek.

I took a glance at Grey, his eyes were drilling into where he held me.

“Drop the act, there’s no audience for you to entertain with your filthy lies!”

“Act?’
Tristan laughed softly, I could feel the vibration from his body.

I pushed his hands away and shot him a glare, he wasn’t helping.

“You should head home, it’s getting late.”
I told him feeling too tired to witness any fight.
