The Lights?

?Ifeoma?

“Uju wakeup! Somebody help!” I shouted.

“What’s happening here?” I heard the Prince’s voice behind me.

I turned and looked at him.

His eyes was on Uju.
“What’s wrong with her?” he asked.
“She’s… She’s not breathing,” I said.

“And why have you been standing there Ola without rushing for Doctor Kadi?” he asked the Princess.
She shrugged and said. “She should keep shouting, maids would come and then take her to doctor Kadi.”

“What? Are you listening to yourself Ola? Someone is unconscious here and you are relaxed about it?” he shouted at her.
“Don’t you dare do that!” she threw back at him.
“What?”
“Shout at me, don’t do that for the second time,” she warned.

Just then, The Queen and three maids arrived.

“What’s going on here. I heard shouts for help, why’s she like that?” The queen asked.

“My Queen, she isn’t breathing. She needs to be brought back. I don’t want to loose Uju,” I said.
“Oh my goodness… Carry her, carry her to doctor Kadi,” the Queen said.

The maids came over and were about to carry her when I felt Uju’s eyelids move.

“Wait!” I halted them.

“What is it?” The queen asked.
“What is wrong?” The Prince asked.

“Her eyelids just moved…yes, it just moved again…” I said and lowered my ears to her heart to hear her heartbeat.

It was beating. It was beating!

“Her heart is beating again… She’s back,” I said and looked at Princess Ola who didn’t look surprised but was smiling.
“Thank God she’s awake. She need medical attention. Take her to the doctor,” The Queen said.

I turned back to Uju who’s eyes was still closed but breathing.

“Thank you for coming back Uju, Thank you,” I said to her with a smile.

With the help of the maids, I carried Uju to doctor Kadi.

?Prince Eric?

Once my mother, Ifeoma and the others left with Ujunwa, I went closer to Olanma.

She was smiling at her fingernails.

“Ola, what happened?” I asked.
“What do you mean by what happened?” she asked, still staring at her fingernails.

“I know very well that the maid, Ujunwa takes care of your room and your must be where she had came out from and so, what happened ?”

She stopped smiling and staring at her fingernails, and raised her eyeballs at me.

“Yes of course, she came to my room, cleaned and left,” she said then raised her brows. “Wait, do you think I did something to her?”

I chuckled “no of course, I’m just wondering ’cause you sounded strange some minutes ago. You even warned me or should I call that a threat?”

“Anyone you name it brother, oh sorry Prince Eric. Now excuse me, I need to be inside my room, goodnight,” she said and was about going in when I rushed her and grabbed her hand, thus stopping her from closing the door.

“What’s the matter?” she asked.
I looked into her eyes. “Are you okay Ola? Is there anything you wanna tell me?” I asked.

She rolled her eyes “Damn it Eric. I’m fine. There’s nothing wrong with me okay?”
“Are you sure about that? You sound strange tonight,” I said.

Her face went into a frown and she forcefully flung my hand off hers.
“You are annoying me, get the hell off my door!” she said, went in and banged the door shut to my face.

My jaw dropped in shock.
“What? Did Ola just say that to me.. Did she bang the door to my face too?”

I returned back to my room and on opening the door, there was Rose sitting at the edge of my bed with her uncovered th!ghs crossed over the other.

‘Now this is another shocker’

“Hello my Prince,” she greeted with the most soothing voice I’ve ever heard but that won’t make not to question how she got into my room without my permission.

“My Prince you look dejected, is everything okay?” she asked with the sane tone and bit her bottom lip.

“How did you get in here?” I asked her.
She smiled, stood up and walked to me. “My Prince, my sincere apologies, I sneaked in just to be with you, I couldn’t help it any longer…” she placed her hand on my chest.. “The away you look at me all the time, the way you smile, the way you acknowledge me, I can’t help myself anymore but to bring myself to you with the whole of my heart, please permit me to lock the door and let’s be together for a moment,” she said, wrapped her hands around my waist and was going to lay her head on my chest when I halted her from doing so with my hand then released her hands from my waist.

“You can’t be in my room Rose, you need to leave right now. Come on leave okay,” I said as I grabbed her and pulled her towards the door but she struggled not to step an inch.
“No please, My Prince I don’t want to leave without tasting the sweetness of your lips and having myself in your strong arms,” she said.
“I can’t do any of that to you until I choose you on the last day as my bride, it’s only a week left,” I said.
“Then are you saying, I’m going to be the chosen bride?” she asked.

Her stopped, exhaled and looked at her.
She was smiling anxiously.

“I’m not saying so. I’m just saying it for whoever that it’s gonna be. In case you get chosen, just know that,” I said.

“What My Prince, but you look at me differently, you smile at me in a different way, you give me admiration signs my Prince and you made me begin to see myself as the maiden you are going to choose,” she said.

“Rose, I like you, I like your beauty, quietness and your personality…but only that can’t make me choose you.. I hope you try harder in this remaining seven days,” I said, opened the door and pushed her out.

“My Prince wait..” she muttered.

I shut the door to her face, turned and leaned on the door as my mind went back to the conversation between Ola and Ifeoma that I walked on at the corridor.

**
Just a minute after Ifeoma left my room, I got a call from Charles that he was downstairs and found something interesting that he’d like me to come explain it to him, so I left my room and came out to the corridor.

But I walked on a conversation going on between Ola and
Ifeoma..
I quickly took few steps back so I don’t walk in on them.
I felt the urge to eavesdrop. I couldn’t see them but I could hear them clearly.

“….Her death?” Ifeoma asked.

“Then what? Do you think she’s sleeping? Anyway you can raise her from her death, I heard that you have nice powers,” Ola said.”

The conversation ended there.
**

“Ifeoma has nice powers? What kind of powers and how did Ola know about it? What caused Uju to go into unconsciousness?”

“Does it have to do with Ola or Ifeoma?”

“I suspected Ifeoma to have some powers, could it really be true? Do she powers? The trunk she pulled off my legs, the table.. They were strange,”

“Should I visit the clinic? I need to speak with Uju if she wakes up.”

“Oh God…what is going on in this palace?

A knock came on the door, I went for it, opened it and Charles rushed in.
I closed the door.

“What’s going on in the palace Eric? I heard the maid who takes care of Ola’s room fainted and almost died or something and d@mn it, I was at the gate, having a gist with Paul,” he said.

“I don’t know man.. Heard she fainted but she’s back and at the palace clinic,” I said.

“Oh d@mn. It’s great she’s conscious now. I bumped into her earlier on when she came off the staircase and from what I saw, she look perfectly fine and very beautiful,” he said.

I raised my brow at him. “Hey, stop it Charles.”

“Come on, what’s so wrong about appreciating a woman’s beauty. She’s beautiful and I just had to let it out you know, she being a maid won’t stop me from noticing and saying that okay,” he said.

I went for a wine and glasses.

“I’m thirsty for some wine tonight,” I said.
“Me too. My right middle finger hurt a little,” he said.
“Why?” I asked.
“When I bumped into that maiden..”
“Ujunwa… You don’t even know the name of your beautiful woman,” I said.
“Yeah I don’t but thanks to you, I do now,” he said.

I returned to the table with a bottle of wine and two wine glass.

“You were saying something,” I reminded me.
“Yeah when I bumped into Ujunwa, my finger hit on something like stone which I guess was inside her pocket. My finger hit really hard on it that it still hurt,” he said.

I raised my brow. “Something like stone?”

“Yes and you know I don’t want to believe she’d be carrying stones in her pocket. I think it might be something like a bracelet or pendant or even a finger ring. You know women stuff, there’s always those fancy stones on everything they wear,” he said.

I tilted back my head in thoughts.

“”””””””””””””””””

?Ifeoma?

She was given a bed and Doctor Kadi injected a drip on her.

“There’s nothing I found.. She’s perfectly fine but anyway I just had to give her the drip to help her recover fully,” Doctor Kadi told the Queen and I.

“Are you sure you found nothing wrong with her? It could have been stress,” the Queen said.

“It’s not stress my Queen. She’s perfectly okay and there was no way she could have had such a situation. I’m astonished. The only thing I could say about this is that, it might be a spiritual issue,” Dr. kadi said.

I inhaled.

“Spiritual problem?? Like?” The queen asked.
“Yes, if she wakes, I would need to question her,” he said.
“No I want to be right here once she wakes,” the Queen said.
“Okay my Queen.”

“”

“What happened?” The Queen asked me immediately we stepped out of Dr Kadi’s office.

I inhaled.

“My Queen, I came out of the Prince room and met Uju coming out of the Princess room and when I called her I noticed she was staggering and the next thing, she fell into my arms and her breathing stopped,” I narrated.

“She came out of the Princess room?” she asked with a raised brow.

“Yes my Queen. My Queen there…”
“Don’t…speak this to anyone,” she said, cutting me off.

I raised my face at her then brought down my face.
“Yes my Queen… but I have something I think you should know,” I said.
“And don’t think the Princess has done your friend anything or do you?” she asked.

I inhaled. “My Queen please permit me to tell you about something and it can’t be discussed here.”
“What is that?” she asked.
“Like I told you my Queen, it can’t be discussed here,” I said.

I glanced at her and she had her eyes narrowed as she stared at me.

(Minutes later)

The Queen and I were alone at a room in the palace.

“What is it, I’m all ears,” she said.

“My Queen, I’m going to tell you this because I can’t let it get too late and get everyone mostly the Prince and the Kind in danger,” I said.

“What are talking about that you think would get The King and the Prince in Danger?” she asked.

“The Pri…” The lights in the room went off cutting me short.
Everywhere became dark.

Not just the room but the whole palace.

“What is this?” The queen questioned and woke her phone screen. Her phone began ringing and she picked it.

“Hello my Princess?” she said into the phone.

I could hear her voice from the phone speaker.

“Mom…..everywhere is dark, I can’t see anything. You know how much I hate darkness please come to my room mom, please right now.. I’m scared. I need you mom.”

I inhaled.

‘I know she did this, she know I’m about telling the queen.’

“Calm down my Princess, I’ll be right there right now. The electricity is going to be back in a moment… Let me call the boys while I run to your room okay?” The queen said.

“Yes mom, please hurry now, start coming right now. Don’t waste a second,” she said.

“I won’t,” the queen said as she stood up, gave me a sign and hurried out.

I heaved a sigh.

“Are you afraid to be revealed?” I asked the darkness.
No answer came.

I scoffed, clenched my fist and punched it on the table!

“I will end this… I, Ifeoma will end this,” I said.
