CHAPTER 30
~AT THE COMPETITION ~
“When they told me about the competition, I never thought it to be today” Marie said as she tried to put on the apron.
“Let me help you with that” Charles offered as he put down the pot he was holding to help her put on the apron and when she would have fasten it at the back, he helped her with it.
Marie was stunned when he put his arms around her instead of letting her go like she expect.
“Wh….what are you doing?” She asked.
“Proving to the host who are watching nearby that we are truly lovers. Look at the other contestant” he whispered into her ear and she did as he said only to see the other three contestant doing one or two things with their lover.
“I know you are just helping me and am sorry for using you like this but if we want to convince the judges we must at least show them that we are a couple” he said as he let her go.
“I get it. It’s all just acting and I will do my best in helping you but there is something else am worried about” she said
“What?” Charles asked and even though he had let go of her, he didn’t fully move away.
“You know about my condition will I be a help to you?” She asked and she was once again surprised when he put both his hand on her cheek.
“You don’t have to worry about that. I will be the taster of all the dish I prepare, just be my companion for the rest of the day” Charles said and she nodded.
For a while she was sure that he was going to kss her but he let go of her and went back to arranging his utensils.
“Must I really be here? Can’t you take care of it?” Romeo asked as he and Blake walked into a building.
“I can’t! You were the one they invited as one of the judge while I was invited as a guest. So you need to take care of your own part while I do mine too” Blake told him.
Romeo sighed and the next few minutes was him being greeted by the host who was holding the cooking event.
He would rather much spend his time proving to Marie that she is the one for him.
While Blake was urshered to one of the guest seat he was taken to the judges seat which two male of whom he knew in the business world were seated.
“Here are the list of the competitors sir” the female ursher said as she gave him a list while starring at his handsome face.
“Thank you” Romeo replied as he went through the name and that’s when he saw Marie and Charles name.
He looked up only to see Marie and Charles in their booth cooking while the host asked them a question.

“What are you cooking Charles?” The male host asked as Charles replied.
Marie knew that the camera was on them and that any mistake on her part could ruin this chance for Charles and so she smiled as bright as she could and held Charles arm.
“Your girlfriend is really pretty!” The host said starring at her and while she thanked him in return she wished he would move to another couple but the host kept talking and not in a hurry to move.
“Since this is a cooking for your lover competition, can you tell us more about your relationship with your girlfriend” the host asked Charles and Marie silently cursed him from within.
“Well Marie and I met a few months back and at first we hated each other. I didn’t think much of her and she didn’t with me but that soon change when she got me hooked” Charles began.
She had been starring at the camera but when she heard Charles statement she stared at him while he did the same.
“She got me falling for her, I love her so much that I can’t live without her and as you can see, we are both chef which makes us the best couple.
I hope my food and love keeps her by my side, no other guy will wake up by five in the morning just to cook for you” he said which got everyone laughing except for Marie.
She didn’t know why but she felt that Charles meant his words even though it was just an act.
“You are one lucky girl Marie, I know definitely that I won’t wake up at five just to cook for my wife, it’s the other way around” the host said and they all burst out laughing again.
“So what do you say? Will you let go of this great guy who wakes at five in the morning just to prepare breakfast for you?” The host asked and she forced a smile on her face before giving a reply.
“Of course I ….. Arrrrghhhh!!! ” She shrieked out Suddenly when she saw Romeo seated at the judges seat starring at her.
“What’s wrong?” The host and Charles asked her together.
“I think something got on my foot!” She lied as Charles knelt on the floor to inspect her foot
Her gaze drifted to Romeo who had his arms folded still starring at her.
“I think am fine now. Can I please use the rest room” she mouthed the last part to Charles who told her to go ahead.

Marie took in deep breaths trying to steady herself.
What is he doing here? She thought as she paced around the rest room. The look he gave her certainly showed that he heard Charles talking a while ago.
“What should I do? Should I just leave?” She asked herself but knowing that Charles was still there waiting for her erased that thought.
Bracing herself she left the rest room and was heading back to the competing room when a door opened and someone took hold of her hand pulling her into a room which seemed like the store room.
“Romeo” she called on seeing that he is the one.
“Now tell me what is going on” He demanded and not wanting him to misinterpret things she told him everything.
“It’s just an act and…..”
“I don’t think it is an act. The way Charles was looking at you was far from being an act” he said cutting her off.
“You aren’t going to tell me to quit the competition right?” She asked.
“Of course I am! As soon as you go back there you need to give an excuse to leave…..”
“Am not going to. I gave my word to Charles” she said now cutting him off.
“And what about me? Did you think of me when you stood there letting him cook up those lies?” He asked.
“I already told you that it’s all an act”
“A act I don’t like. Am jealous Marie, am jealous of seeing you with Charles or any other guy” he said as he rest his head on her forehead.
“I don’t like seeing you talking to other guys, it drives me crazy” he said starring down at her.
“That’s a chauvinistic thing to say” she replied
“I don’t care, all I know is that am jealous” he said as he withdrew from her leaving her feeling empty.
“Alright! I will keep my jealousy in check but I hope that you will also try your best to stay away from Charles. Keep him at bay” Romeo said looking a bit sad something that pull at Marie heart.

“You should be glad that am this calm. I really want to pvnch Charles but I won’t and it’s all for you” he added as he turned to leave.

Marie didn’t knew what possess her at that moment, she found herself taking hold of his hand to stop him.

And when he stopped to stare at her she stood on tip toe and kssed his lips.
Romeo was at first surprised by her action but he smiled and pulled her close to him, kssing her back.
