Arriving on the red carpet in a custom #AtelierVersace tulle column dress embroidered with crystal, metallic leather, paillette, and tri-tone copper foil duchesse, an oversized foiled bow at the waist was unraveled to reveal a second look in verdigris—mirroring the transformation of New York’s Statue of Liberty from bronze to oxidized green.

The long duchesse train features a hand painted, foiled, and embroidered celestial map inspired by the 12 zodiac constellations decorating the ceiling of Grand Central Station.

The original shape of the dress draws inspiration from American designer, Charles James, while art deco shapes recall New York landmarks like the Empire State building.

Singer Alicia Keys also paid tribute to Big Apple buildings with a black Ralph Lauren cape that portrayed the city’s skyline in silver beading.

Some 400 famous names from the worlds of music, film, fashion, sports and strutted their stuff at the over-the-top costume parade on the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s carpeted steps.

Kim Kardashian stunned the Met Gala in Marilyn Monroe’s dress from her iconic performance “Happy Birthday, president”.

Monroe is said to have paid Jean-Louis $1,440 for the custom piece, which was first sold at auction in 1999 for over a million dollars as part of a sale of her estate with Christie’s. Husband of 2020 “Worst Cooks in America” winner Ariel Robinson has reportedly rendered a guilty plea in the 2021 homicide of their 3-year-old foster child.

It was found that the Worst Cooks in America’ winner tweeted about ‘white privilege’ before allegedly killing the adopted daughter.

The child was beaten to the extend that she became unresponsive by Ariel her foster mother. Jerry, the foster father could hear her cries from outside. When he came in the child was already unconscious. He placed a call with 911 claiming that the child drank a lot of water and became unresponsive.

Her crime was that she vomited on herself the previous day and that day, she could not eat her pancake fast enough.

Food Network’s Worst cooks in America contestant Ariel Robinson, 29, and her 34 year old husband Jerry Austin Robinson are both charged with homicide by child abuse after their adopted daughter Victoria Rose Smith was found unresponsive, covered in bruises, and blunt force injuries at their Simpsonville, South Carolina home. She was pronounced dead shortly after at a nearby hospital.

Three year old Victoria was allegedly beaten to de.ath by Worst Cooks in America winner, (Recipient of over $50k in cash & gifts) Ariel Robinson.

The arrested couple was very vocal on social media attacking white people, while accusing them and others of “Systematic racism, white privilege in America” and boasted of their commitment to tackling racism in America almost immediately after taking in the 3year old Victoria and her brothers age five and seven, alongside their own two black sons, who are still alive.

Jerry Austin Robinson was released on bond and is currently on GPS monitoring under house arrest at his Simpsonville home.

Jerry Austin Robinson who intitially called 911 a little over 1hour after the final beating resulting in her death occurred, told operators the 3year old was choking, and possibly drank too much water.

But later he told investigators that when he saw the young child in distress that day, he told his wife: “You’ve gone too far this time.”, Jerry Austin Robinson told officers his wife Ariel would hit Victoria with any and everything — “Belts, paddles, Shoes or whatever she had, and she would particularly get beatings from his wife Ariel over not eating her food-pancakes fast enough (Stated at Ariel Robinson’s bond hearing).

Judging by bruises in photos posted on social media and statements, it appears that the beatings were taking place for an extended period of time.

Ariel Robinson claims that the bruises all over the 3year old Victoria were from her 8year old biological son.

Ariel Robinson was an aspiring comedian, and also a teacher who just had her teaching license revoked by SC board of education. Her husband worked as a delivery driver. Both were very active on social media, mostly posting about their family, racism, and “white privilege”.

Ariel Robinson is currently being held without bond at the Greenville County Detention Center in South Carolina.

A formal adoption of Victoria was said to be official just 5-days after the toddler’s murder. After some investigation officials say this is one of, if not the most horrific crimes worked of their careers.

South Carolina DSS social workers are receiving criticism for the quick placement/rehoming of the child, and lack of monitoring of both the parents and children just after they placed her in this foster home where she died.

In January 2021, it was reported that The Food Network pulled its latest series of “Worst Cooks in America after” the winner was charged with murdering her adopted daughter.

This sad event makes you wonder if she adopted the child just to abuse her because of her color.

The woman was reported to have been fired from her teaching job before being allowed to be a foster mom. That was a red flag already. Some people take Foster children for money. This is terrible and shows how our system is flawed.

It’s cringy to watch that video of her winning and talking about her family knowing she’s really an abusive. You wouldn’t think she was anything more than a family oriented, good hearted woman. Never know what’s happening behind closed doors. Smiles mean nothing

It was so hard to believe she could actuallly abuse anyone after watching her win on the Worst Cooks in America show. She seemed like a funny sweet person and gave off no weird vibes really. I hope clarity is brought into this and justice is served properly. RIP to the little girl involved.

But why would you place three white children in the home with black parents that do not hide their hatred they have for whites? Who are actually very vocal about it in fact. (There are lots of good and kind hearted black and white people around the world. And also, there are bad white and black among us. The color of our skins shouldn’t separate us). I believe the agency should also be held accountable for this. Common sense would have dictated this would be a disaster.

This lady had alot of people fooled. SC education Board, Schools, DSS, TV Networks, judges on the tv show, and surely more. Always a Red Flag to me if someone brings up race.

DCF does not check enough on children. The children depend on DCF to advocate for them. This woman had to have been having issues for a while and evidently not been checked on. You don’t react like that and kill a child because of food. Way too many of these heartbreaking stories. They need to do better background checks on potential parents.

“Considering that all parts of Sri Lanka, USA, UK, Italy, Australia, Germany and France were protesting in one gigantic today, I’m not sure the whole curfew and social media ban worked out in his favour. Hee hee haw haw, well done and thank you, everyone. Now, may I please share some thoughts with you?

These guys have just woken up to the suffering of the nation and talking ¢rap about conspiracy theories.

I’ve been protesting about the Raja-paksas for well over 10 years now, and quite vocally so. Many of us have been regularly called alot of ugly things for our opposition to the family rule. I’m sitting back today and wondering what it is that suddenly triggered the rest of Sri Lanka to finally join in, despite all that we’ve been shouting out for years.

Then it struck me… that thing about people only speaking up when something affects them. For over a decade the Rajapakses have caused tears, anguish and strife to millions of our Tamil and Muslim brethren, and despite us seeing it on the news and hearing their cries almost daily, we chose to watch from afar; some of us nodding silently in sympathy, some ignoring it, and many re-victimizing our fellow Sri Lankans by hopping on the ethno-religious hate wagon that the family created to grab their power, because it served our own majority or upper middle-class privilege.

Missing persons, illegal land grabs, police violence, looting, militarization of hometowns, hate speech, discrimination, abductions… we have consistently said and done nothing.

BUT, the instance we experienced the inconvenience of a power cut, no dollars and our supermarket shelves running out of milk powder, boy, have we risen up like an angry pack of beasts!

Don’t get me wrong… I’m grateful that we’re doing it together now. I’m lifted by the unified spirit with which we are chanting and demanding our rights and freedoms. But I’m sorry to say it also feels a little sad that it still means that despite all the flags we wave on the street, our personal comforts still seem to matter more than Sri Lanka does.

Dare I appeal to you that whilst we try and change the political culture of our land, we also self-reflect a little and realize that it does take each and every one of us to care beyond ourselves and hold the others’ hands to do our part, if we want to make waves.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A lucky Corpus Christi resident is celebrating Friday after winning $150,000 on Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing through the lottery app Jackpocket.

The winner, Angelica, opted to add Power Play to the ticket, which tripled her initial winning from $50,000 to $150,000, Jackpocket officials said.

Jackpocket, the first officially licensed third-party lottery app in the U.S., offers players a secure way to order official state lottery tickets from their phones.

Angelica had been playing the lottery on the Jackpocket app for five months before she won big.

Angelica said she plans to continue to do charity work with her winnings and will be purchasing a car for the nephew of her priest who will be attending seminary school.

She also said she owes her best friend (who came with her to claim her ticket) a beer!

Angelica is now among the top 10 biggest Jackpocket winners ever in Texas and Texas lottery players have won over $21.8 million to date on the app.

Storm Evert has brought bad weather to many parts of the UK

Storm Evert started on Thursday evening battering Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with high winds and rain

Bbc news reported that two women have been seriously injured by a falling oak tree during what police believe was an outdoor party.

Emergency services were also called to Ubbeston, near Heveningham in Suffolk, just after 18:30 BST.

Suffolk Police said the pair in their 20s were taken to hospital – one with injuries to her spine and head and the other with pelvic and arm injuries

It came after Storm Evert sparked weather warnings across swathes of south-west and southern England.

Storm Evert, which began on Thursday evening, saw gusts of winds near 70mph across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly – prompting a number of rescues off the Isles of Scilly.

STORM Evert has battered the UK with 70mph winds and torrential rain and thunder – and there’s more to come.

The Met Office has warned of further heavy downpours over the weekend as well as thunderstorms across central, eastern and southern parts of the country.

We were not impacted as much as many places but yesterday we had some real downpours with a lot of thunder rumbling about.

Think we missed a lot of the rain but my rain gauge still gathered 20mm of rain in about an hour yesterday afternoon, and another 8mm by this morning.

Weather has calmed down now so I managed to get the remainder of the Spear Thistles destroyed in my rented bullock field.

According to Confused.com, building and contents insurance policies usually cover against storm damage.

That means you’re likely to be able to make a claim if the bad weather has battered your home.

Aside from flooding, you’re likely to be covered for the following damage to your home if there was a storm according to the comparison website:

Roof tiles that have blown off in the winds

Damage to the house caused by lightning

Bricks and mortar broken by fallen trees and debris

You’re not likely to be able to get a payout for things such as garden fences, sheds, gates and hedges unless your policy specifically says it will.

Many policies often exclude damage made to anything outside the house itself unless you have specific cover.

In some cases, insurers may refuse to pay out if you didn’t maintain your home to a good enough standard.

For example, if you make a claim for water damage to your house after the storm but the insurer’s inspection finds that the gutters aren’t clear.

In other cases, your building insurance might not cover your possessions so it’s important to check the small print before taking out the policy.

If your house is damaged to badly that you can’t live in it, your insurer should pay for alternative accommodation until they have repaired it.

But many insurers have their own standards that define “bad weather”, which you agree to when you take out the policy.

In lesser weather, they may argue against claims citing things like wind speeds.

How do I make a claim?

Get in touch with your insurer as soon as you can and find out if they have any specific requests that you need to do to make the claim.

Make sure that you take detailed photographs of all of the damage that’s been caused to your property and possessions.

You’ll need to keep all of the damaged property too as the insurance company might want to carry out their own inspection of them before making a decision.

If you need to make any emergency temporary repairs, then you should let your insurer know about it first.

Keep all of the receipts and invoices too as you can add this to your claim.

If your holiday or train travel has been put on hold, here are your rights including how to get a refund, whether your airline has to pay for a hotel room and if you can get compensation.

What happens if I don’t have insurance?

If you’re uninsured and your home is affected by flooding, it’s likely you’ll have to foot the bill for the cost of repairing it yourself.

But there is help available to you if you’re struggling to pay the bill.

You might be able to get financial help from your local council – but help varies depending on where you live.

Many councils including Hertfordshire allowed homeowners to apply for a grant of up to £5,000 if they were affected by the Ciara and Dennis storms back in February last year.

But it is unclear whether the same amount of help will be available now – make sure to check in with your local council for more details.

According to Flood Guidance, you could get a reduction on your council tax bill, which will help free up money for you to repair and clean up your home.

The amount of cash you could get knocked off your bill depends on your circumstances and you need to apply through your local council – you can find out which one is yours here.

A student of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Gift Kenneth has been jailed alongside his mother and girlfriend for defrauding an American lady, Lucinda Ann Garnes Henrichson, of around $902,935 (about N371 million).

He and the two others – his mother, Dora Animam, and girlfriend, Spice Chimzi Dandy Igwe – were sentenced by Justice F. A. Olubanjo of the Federal High Court, Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday, July 22, for internet fraud.

A statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Wilson Uwujaren said Animam and Igwe were arraigned on one count each by the Benin Zonal office of the commission for offences bordering on impersonation and obtaining by false pretences.

Kenneth was said to have disguised as one Raymond Carl Eric and in 2018 and 2019 lied to Henrichson of Texas, US, about an infrastructural investment project. This was followed by the transfer of the money through various channels – Shuaibu Abdullahi and Dora Animam’s bank accounts.

While Animam was said to have received the money with her Diamond and Access bank accounts. According to the statement, she received $166,000 from Henrichson and N27 million from Abdullahi.

They all pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them, and Justice Olubanjo convicted and sentenced both Gift Kenneth and his mother, Dora Animam to five years imprisonment or a fine of N3 million each while Spice Chimzi Dandy Igwe was sentenced to two years imprisonment or a fine of N100,000.

A Mercedes Benz 300, Mercedes Benz CL250, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone XX Max, Apple MacBook Pro, two Apple Mac books were said to have been recovered from Kenneth, along with a twin four-bedroomed uncompleted duplex in Asaba.

A sum of N4 million was also recovered and the victim, Henrichson was refunded the sum of $4,255, recovered from Kenneth’s contractor, through the US Embassy.

The CBN announced this during a webinar on Thursday as it presented its digital currency initiative to stakeholders.

The information technology director for the bank, Rakiya Mohammed, disclosed that CBN had been researching since 2017 to develop and adopt the digital currency.

The project called ‘GIANT’ will run on the hyper-ledger fabric blockchain, an open-source project for developing blockchain-based products, solutions, and applications used by private enterprises.

Ms Mohammed said the bank might conduct a proof of concept before the end of this year.

During the presentation, the CBN stated that about 80 per cent of central banks worldwide were currently entertaining the possibility of issuing “central bank digital currency” (CBDC), and Nigeria could not be left behind.

The financial regulatory institution maintained that the digital currency’s launch would include and allow macro-management and growth and cross-border trade facilitation.

In addition, it will also give room for financial inclusion, monetary policy effectiveness, improved payment efficiency, revenue tax collection, remittance improvement, and targeted social intervention.

The CBN initiative came as countries across the globe have shown interest in adopting the trade of digital assets.

African countries with officially recognised digital assets include South Africa with the digital Rand and Ghana’s e-cedi.

In February, Nigeria banned the trading of cryptocurrencies as the CBN directed banks and other financial institutions to close down customers’ accounts related to the trading of digital assets, despite Nigeria being the world’s second-largest bitcoin trading market.

It argued that cryptocurrency trading increased the risk of loss of investments, money laundering, terrorism financing, and other crimes.

The couples who spoke to NTV in a live interview made it known that they have been enjoying their marriage since the time they swapped. They also said that it’s been a beautiful experience so far.

Lilian then emphasized by adding that she is now a happier woman with Christopher compared to when she was married to Kevin Barasa. For them, it has been happiness galore ever since they agreed to swap their spouses.

Despite the switch, the four of them have kept contact for the sake of their children whom they see once a month at the Busia Children’s Department.

A herbalist, Lajuwon Ogunleye, and his wife Adetutu Apalaya have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command on charges of conspiring and killing their 7-year-old son, Pelumi Apalaya, for rituals.

The couple were arrested alongside one Fatai Sefiu, following their neighbours’ suspicion of the little boy being used for ritual, as he reportedly slumped and died without being sick.

They were reportedly monitored by residents of the community after they took the boy to the bush for burial. It was gathered that some of the body parts of the boy who was buried in a “standing position,” were harvested by the herbalist who is his stepfather, his mother, and Sefiu who is his father’s friend.

According to the Ogun State Police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, the DPO for Abigi Division, Tarkighir Joseph led detectives to the bush in Iwopin area of Ijebu waterside where the suspects were rounded up.

Oyeyemi said; “The suspects led policemen to where the victim was buried and it was discovered that the deceased was buried in standing position.

“On interrogation, the second suspect, Fatai Sefiu, told the detectives that the boy was actually used for ritual by the stepfather in connivance with the deceased boy’s mother.”

He stated further that the couple have reached a conclusion before he was co-opted into the business.

“The mother of the victim Adetutu Apalaya who first denied having knowledge of her husband’s plan to use her son for ritual was dumbfounded when asked whether or not she followed them to the bush where her son was buried and the mode of the burial of the boy.”

The Commissioner of Police, Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered a transfer of the case to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department(SCIID) for further investigation and prosecution.
