Kingsley’s fast was beginning to weigh him down these days as he still went up and down, looking for where he could find a job.
For some weeks now, he’s been combining prayers, vigils and fastings all together, to see to it that he gets a good result.
Deciding to break, he branched at a close restaurant.
On walking into the almost lonely restaurant however, he discovered there was a misunderstanding between a woman who seemed to be the owner of the restaurant, and an employee.
“Madam I cannot continue like this o. How can you be paying me half of my salary? It’s not fair now!” The employee complained as Kingsley observed.
“Peter please calm down and attend to this customer first, after that we’d go inside and settle this amicably please.” The womam pleaded but her pleas fell on deaf ears.
“I’m not attending to anyone until my complaints are attended to. Ah ah. For the past four months now, it’s been half of my salary I’ve been receiving. How do you expect me to feed my family with that little amount of money? This is what we bargained and agreed on before I started working for you madam.”
“I know that, and I’m so sorry. I’ve been experiencing losses in my business for over four months now, and what I’ve been giving you is what I could afford. You don’t expect me to steal, do you?” The woman replied.
“Oh it’s me you’re asking that question. Wonderful! It’s because I’ve been gentle with you that’s why you think you can open your mouth and……..Kai.
If not that I lost my job, will I be here and Workin under a low class like you?” He said disdainfully as he went into some place that looked like a store and was soon out with a bag.
“I’m no longer interested in this job, you can have it. Excuse me.” He said as he hissed and walked out on him.
The woman feing ashamed and embarrassed, went to meet Kingsley herself.
“What would you love to have dear.” She said with a feigned smiles.
“Jollof rice and chicken would do ma’am.” He responded.
“Okay I’ll go get it for you, but chicken isn’t available now.”
“Don’t worry, I’d eat it like that.” He said with a smile as she went to get the food.
On walking out, Kingsley took the opportunity to observe her well.
She looked slightly in her middle 40s and from the looks of things, things weren’t really going well with her, plastering this disheartening look on her face.
“Here it is, enjoy.”
“Thank you Ma’am.” He responded as he quietly ate.
While eating, he observed she was doing the dishes and trying to get things done and the same time, which was not really easy for her.
While eating and observing at the same time, an idea clicked in his heart.
“You need help with that, ma’am?” He said as she struggled with multitasking.
“Oh thank you my dear, I can handle it.”
“I insist” He responded as she heaved a sigh and nodded in agreement.

In few minutes, he was done with the dishes and had cleaned up the restaurant.
“Thank you my dear, have a nice evening.” She responded, when he begged to take his leave.
“Wait.” She said as he was about to head out.
“Would you be okay to work with me here? Because to be honest, I can’t do all these alone.” The woman requested as Kingsley jumped for joy, but in his heart.
“Sure ma’am, after I think about it.”
“Okay, so when will you get back to me?”
“Unfailingly tomorrow.”
“Okay, thank you.” She responded as he left.
“But this isn’t the kind of job a graduate is supposed to be doing; a graduate with first class honors for that matter.” He reasoned within as he flagged down a cab.

? Emmanuel’s POV
Things were getting much worse for my mom and I don’t really understand.
Dad has been blaming me for her sudden illness, stating that my friend was responsible for it.
I just couldn’t argue with him, I myself don’t understand all this.
Staring at her on her bed completely weak and lean, I just couldn’t think straight or go to office for today.
“Don’t worry brother, she’ll be fine.” My sister Angela, encouraged as I could only nod in response.
“Aren’t you going to get dressed?” She asked as she noticed I was still in my nighties.
“I do not think so.” I responded coldly, and in a low tone.
“What happens to your place of work or you don’t going?”
“I want to stay with mom and besides, I’ve sent a formal text to dad that I’d be absent today, so don’t think I’m taking anything for granted.” I responded.
“Okay o, no problem. As for me, I’ll be leaving now. My boss asked me to work on things today and it’s going to be a hectic one. I’d see you and Mom when I’m back okay.” She said as she gave me and mom the usual family peck and finally drove off.
Evening was already here and no one was home yet. Well, it’s a Monday morning so I don’t expect anyone to be home early.
Deciding to stroll around our big house (some call it a mansion, but I won’t call it that), I found the room that’s always under lock and key, slightly ajar.
On getting close and realizing my eyes weren’t decieving me (the door was actually open, for the first time), I stepped back and had a little laugh, remembering the last time I let my curiosity get the best of me and was caught by my dad.
That day ehn, I was flogged like never before. I don’t think I’ve ever been flogged that way in my life (yeah, I was a child of 7 then).
I remembered how he got to find out and this time, I would play smart and destroy all evidences because I still want to know what’s in that room.
After a moment of thoughts and careful strategy, I stepped into the room as quietly as possible, only to receive the shock of my life.
“Grandma? Grandma!!!” I screamed at what I saw and almost immediately, a reasonable amount of money fell in the room and from the look of things, it seemed like it was the sound of my voice that triggered it.
