CHEATED : EPISODE 1 – 20

EPISODE 4

“Guy loosen up mehn, we’re Christains too.”

“You’re just suffering yourself.”

“Who told you we won’t enjoy the goodness of life because we decided to enjoy the days of our youth?”

“Grow up guy abeg, flex small joor.”

All these and more were what kept flashing through his mind as he kept writing his sulclde note.

“I think a rope will do. Better still, how about a poisonous drink” He murmured to himself in hot and bitter tears as he paced around his room indecisively.

This wasn’t the life he wanted at all. He had given up most pleasures in his youthful age just to secure a good life in future. Now the future is here, he has nothing to show for it.

“Who is this again?” He mumbled as he took his vibrating phone.

? Hello Mr. Kingsley.

? Hello Sir, please who am I speaking with?

? Yes this is Pastor Jude, the youth pastor of the church you attend.

? Oh, good day Sir.

? Good day. Please I’m led to have a word with you; when will you be chanced?

? I’m not chanced, Sir. Looking well at the time, you’d know this isn’t the right time to have conversations as it is assumed I’d be busy in my place of work.

? I’m so sorry about that. How about I…..

? Nevermind, I’m free now so where do we meet, Pastor?

? In the church premises, I’m there already.

? *Sighs* Okay, I’d be there in a few minutes.

? Thank you very much. Hold on to God my friend, He loves you. *Cuts call*

“God has failed me already” He responded within.

“Mr. Kingsley Nwankwo, God just dropped it in my spirit to dial your number earlier today to ask you to hold on.” Pastor Jude said in his discussion with Kingsley that has been going on for over thirty minutes now.

“Okay Sir, I’ve heard you. I’d wait on him as you’ve advised.” He replied impatiently as it seemed like it was taking too long for him to finalize their discussion.

“And yes…let me suggest one thing: I suggest you grow in faith and also sow seeds of faith to seal your testimony.” The pastor said thoughtfully as Kingsley nodded.

“There’d be service here by this time tomorrow, would you be chanced to attend? I observed you’ve slacked in attending services these days, apart from Sundays.”

“Guilty as charged, but I’d be here tomorrow.”

“Oh that’s great, that’s great. Let us pray before you go.”

“Thank you for attending, I hope you were blessed?” Pastor Jude asked with a smile as soon as the evening service was over.

“Yes, thank you.” He responded with a light smile which disappeared almost immediately.

“Mr. Kingsley, I may not know what you’re going through as God didn’t reveal that to me, but God’s time is always the best; He will do it in His own time and your testimony is surely coming soon.” He encouraged and at that instant, his child came and whispered something in his ears.

“Mr. Kingsley don’t worry ehn, God is planning the best for you so just be patient. I have to go now please, my wife and kids are waiting for me.” He said in a hurry as he dashed out of the auditorium almost immediately.

On seeing this, K sighed and checked his pocket for transport fare, and discovered he was out of cash.

He then decided to trek home.

On getting out of the auditorium too, he saw Pastor Jude’s wife and kids playing and waiting for their dad who seemed to have gone to lock up his office.

“At least he would’ve given me something to use to transport myself home, or would I eat words and motivations?” He mumbled as he left the church premises.

“Lord where have I gone wrong? What exactly have I done to deserve this treatment? I remember rejecting job offers just because of your fear in me.” He cried within with his head faced up as his memory flashed back on the past failed interviews he had had.

Flashback

“Mr. Kingsley, you really did well and I applaud you for that. To cut the whole story short, you’ve got the job. Congratulations!” The manager announced, with other important and highly placed members of the company smiling at him, but mischievously.

“Really? Oh thank you Jesus!” He said with so much joy but the response and reactions of the manager shocked him to the brim.

“Please don’t mention that name here again!!! It is highly forbidden in this place!” The manager thundered as Kingsley looked on like a drenched chicken.

“I’m….I’m sorry, what?” He asked in confusion as a woman amongst them replied him in a calm manner.

“You see my dear, what our manager here was trying to explain to you before you mentioned that forbidden name is this: you’ve been offered a job in a very high position, on the condition that you renounce your faith.” She said and a pin-drop silence followed.

“Jeeesssuuus Christ!!!”

“My friend come off it before you slay someone here at the mention of that name.!” The manager snapped, causing K
to shudder.

“So my dear, are you in or out?” The woman asked calmly but sternly.

“I’m sorry I’m not longer interested; I’m a bonafide Christain and I can’t renounce my faith for anything in this world.” He said, with the manager dazed at his rejection of such a juicy offer.

“What insolence!” One of the members of staff thought aloud.

“It’s okay then, enjoy your poverty-stricken life. You may leave, you’re dismissed.” The woman said with a smirk at some point.

“Lord God! I rejected such a juicy offer for you! Won’t you reward me??!!” He said bitterly as his brain didn’t stop in reminding him of two other job offers he rejected as a result of his rugged faith in God.

“I can’t take this anymore, I can’t!!!” He said as he violently got up from his bed, placed his well written sulclde note on his bed, brought the rope he had bought and climbed a chair and hung himself on the old ceiling fan in his room.
