Dare To Leave
Episode 6
Lydia was upstairs in her room reading a book from one of her favorite authors Sidney Sheldon titled “Nothing last forever” with a glass of juice in one hand
She was so engrossed in the book that she didn’t hear Ken call her name until he opened the bedroom door
“I thought as much…….. I’ve been calling you from downstairs ”
“Ohh I didn’t hear you ”
“Obviously…… Come with me.. We have a guest ”
“A guest ” she hopped down from the bed and wore her slippers
“Yes… Babe ”
“Who is it?”
“Why don’t you come down and see”
“No… You have to tell me who it is, what if I have to dress up or something?”
“You don’t need anything… Let’s go”
He grabbed her and led her downstairs
Where Ken’s younger sister Victoria who just got back from the States sat by the bar serving herself a glass of wine
“Ohhh Ken… Is this who you refer to as a guest… Victoria is not a guest, she’s my sister in law and this is her house. Don’t mind him Vic… He doesn’t know certain things…. Ohhh it’s so good to see you ”
She moved closer to hug her but Victoria shoved her aside quickly and move towards her brother like none of that just happened
“Ken…. I have so many things to talk to you about so I’m just going to freshen up and join you soon”
“Okay ” Ken said
“What would you like to have Victoria? I’m sure you must be exhausted from the journey ”
“I wouldn’t be needing anything from you Lydia and I know my way around here…. I lived here before you were married into this house ”
She raised her shoulder and Lydia forced a smile as her husband didn’t seem to find it rude… The way his sister talks to her
Lydia and Victoria never got along not even once……..
Victoria was always putting it to her that Lydia is well below her brother’s standard and they were never compatible
But Lydia would always try to tolerate her
Most times, she just ignore her cruel remarks and hurtful words just to ensure that peace stays in the family
Ken seem to think… His sister attitude is just her usaul way of socializing which is not exactly how she acts towards others
And now she’s here
For God knows how long

Lydia went back to reading when she realized that there wasn’t much she could do for their new in house guest
Ken walked into the room and sat beside her on the bed
“Heyyy….. What are you doing?”
“i’m reading….. Ken”
“I know I can see that, aren’t you going to come downstairs and hang out with Vic,?”
“Hang out with Vic……. I don’t think she wants that ”
“C’mon….. She just got here, at least try and talk to her, ask after her husband… Her kid, at least pretend to care”
That got her attention
“What is that suppose to mean? Wait! Do you think I’m the one with the problem here? Every time I try to make a conversation with your sister, she just shuts me out like I don’t exist… Why would I want to keep humiliating myself every time?”
“She just got here…. You haven’t even tried yet….. She has been gone for a while…… That should count for something ”
“I can’t keep doing this ”
“Okay…… Why don’t we all go out for dinner? And we will try to get you both on track ”
“I’m good at this end.. I have no issues ”
“Great….. Get dress and let’s go out ”
“I don’t feel like going anywhere ”
“Why?'”
“Because I’m tired and I need to rest ”
“Baby….. It’s just dinner.. You are not roaming in heels or something ”
“I’d like to be left out….. Please ”
“You know we can’t go to dinner without you ”
“I insist…….. Besides you don’t want your sister to sleep on an empty stomach….. And she won’t eat what I make.. So it is best you go out”
“So what are you going to do when we are gone? ”
“I’ll just read my book, still get many chapters to go ”
“Baby…. ” he touched her chin
“Go Ken…. Go have fun”
“You know I can’t have fun without you ”
“Just try today….. I’ll be here when you get back ”
“I love you… ”
“I love you too”
She watched him change his clothes and walked out of the room.
This is the part she drenched the most

When he got back, she was lying on the bed with her eyes closed and watched, he rubbed his hands on her body and planted k!sses everywhere on her face
She would have accepted him with open arms if his breath didn’t stink of alcohol
That explains why they returned home late,
Victoria has taken him to a club of course
And convinced him to drink alcohol after he had quit it years ago
Victoria is never a good influence on her brother. She would often take him to bars and clubs before and even after he got married…..
Although he had promised Lydia to never take alcohol again after he had a major accident few years back
And here he is. The very night his sister came back to town
Lydia carefully moved his sleeping body off her and tried to stay calm all night trying so hard not to cry.
