Episode 30.
Alfred had spent the whole day at Rachael’s and it was time to go home, as he picked his bag to leave, Rachael held unto him.
Rachael: Must you go? Please stay with me, please don’t leave me.
Alfred: But I have to go, I can’t possibly stya here with you
Rachael: but I need you, we need you, your baby needs you. Please stay with us please.
“And if I do that what will I tell my wife, I told you what I feel. I told you my wife is aware already. Something tells me she is aware and does not want to ask me any it’s killing me. How do I know explain If I should start sleeping out.
Rachael: And I told you to relax that she is not aware. How can she be? No woman can know tht her husband is cheating and still remain silent and patient with him. What they do is normally react, quarrel and fight and then threaten to expose the man and the woman and rant many many nonsense that they can’t so. Most normal women that is how they behave even the stint Christians, except they are not normal that is when they keep silent and that means they are even planning something big and deadly.
Alfred: exactly my point. My wife is not normal. She is different from women out there which is why am scared and worried and troubled that she had not asked me.
Rachael: Or she doesn’t know anything, have you thought of that? What can she possibly know order than giving birth anyhow?
Alfred: my wife is not stupid o, she may have given birth to plenty children but she is not stupid, she is a PHD holder from the University of Nigeria o, and she was the best in her time. She would have been a great lawyer or barrister by now but I stopped her from practicing and out of the love and respect she has for me she obeyed. She knows, I believe strongly she knows.
Rachael: And you are so sure of this?
Alfred: My spirit never lies to me. Rachael she knows. That is why I can’t give her more reasons or evidences to use against me. Which is the reason I have to go because her silence is killing me deeper. If only she can ask or quarrel with me over the issue it would have been very easy. I will have an excuse on whatever I decide to do, but in this case my hands are tied.
Rachael sits for a while thinking and watching Alfred picks his things. Then all of a sudden she spoke out.
Rachael: Then let’s kill her.
A shocked Alfred turns and looks at her.
Alfred: What? What did you say?
Rachael: Why are you so surprised? And why are you looking at me like that? I said let’s kill her and you suddenly looked at me surprised, as if it’s your first time of killing someone.
Alfred: I didn’t kill anyone, I told you, that was an accident, I wanted to remove the pregnancy but unfortunately she died.
Rachael: It’s thesame thing we are saying. Accident or no accident, killing is killing and if your wife is going to act as the barrier to our being together, let’s kill her. That way you will be single,y husband is already dead, I will be single and we will be qualified to get married. You will have the opportunity to of being and growing with your child in me, and the society will not criticize us, the church will not condemn us, we will be happy.
Alfred who was still in shock was watching Rachael talk. She stands up and moves to him, rubbing him all over.
“Do you know the sweetest part of this? You will be the new reverend of the church, you will run the affairs of the church, you and I will be the new mummy and daddy G.O of the church and you will be the one in control of all the money in the church. Won’t you want that?
Alfred was lost in thoughts and didn’t say anything.
Rachael: I will not rush you in making any decision, go home and think about it and tomorrow we will talk.
Alfred turned and looked at her again before asking.
Alfred: did you kill reverend Leo? Did you kill your husband because of me?
Rachael angrily stands up and gives him a slap on his face and started shouting at him angrily.
“What kind of stupid question is that? How can you ask me such silly question? Are you trying to get me angry or what?
Alfred: am only asking because I am surprised the way you just could not think of any other solution other than killing my wife. I’m sorry I got you angry.
Rachael: I suggested that so that we can be together in peace without opposition from anyone. But since you don’t want you can go. Leave my house and never come back just go. Get out of here, I don’t ever want to see your face anymore.
Alfred moves to her and held her close, petting and apologising to her for talking like that.
Alfred: Am so sorry my love, I really am, I didn’t mean to get you angry. See I will think of what you have said and together we can plan on being married without any opposition. But for now let’s conclude the burial of Reverend. It’s four months since his death and the burial is just around rhe corner. If we kill my wife now and we end up together people will suspect. So let’s plan this slowly and wisely after the burial so that we will not draw unnecessary attention to ourselves. Please my love.
Rachael smiled as she held him close. She liked what she was hearing from Alfred.
