CHAPTER 40

Barney hits the can of soda she was holding, forcefully on the table.
“That’s Dylan is so annoying!!” She lashed out angrily.
“Then break up with him” Nadine said.
“Really? That’s your suggestion. You of all people should know that I’m heads over heels in love with that guy” Barney said.
“But you just said you find him annoying”.
“He’s refusing to give in to what I want, that’s why I found him so annoying right now” Barney said angrily.
“He’s being forced to be engaged to you, do you think he’s just going to give in to what you want?”
“He’ll. Wheather he likes it or not, we’re going to get married someday and he won’t have any choice but to give in to my demands. But for now he’s going to get it hot from his parents”
“You told his parents already?” Nadine asked.
“He pushed me out of his room like a piece of trash, so I reported what he did to his parents. His Parents will scold him for what he did to me” Barney said.
“Don’t you think this is the more reason why Dylan hates you?”
“And that’s why Carding is distant from you because you aren’t taking any actions” Barney said.
“I might be on his dad’s good side, but not once have he talked about being perfect for his son” Nadine said.
“Then suggest about getting engaged with Carding to him Nadine. Carding can only be yours when you fight to have him, don’t let that Paige girl double cross you” Barney said.
“Speaking of that Paige girl, I so badly want to get back at her. Thanks to her, I stopped being the face of the expensive brands and I couldn’t even attend the red carpet event. My career as a model is at stake thanks to her” Nadine said.
“I think I have an idea” Barney said and Nadine looks at her.
“You do?”.
“Yes. Come closer” Barney said.
Nadine brought her ear close to Barney and she whispers Something to Nadine.
Nadine looks at her and smiles.
“Your a genius Barney”.
“I’m not called Barney Reyes for nothing” Barney said.
And the both of them laugh.

“You should go ahead now. This is my dad’s convenience store” Desiree said and Nadia smiles.
“Thanks for hanging out with me today Desiree. I’m happy we’re partners” Nadia said smiling.
“Your not faking your Innocence, right?” Desiree asked.
“Huh?”
“Nadine might be annoying but I kind of like the fact that she’s showing who she really is. You being nice and all that, I can’t really tell if your faking or if is real”.
“Have you been betrayed by a nice person before?” Nadia asked.
“No, but I’m a lover of movies, and from everything I’ve watched, the most trusted persons ends up being the bad guy”.
Nadia smiles lightly.
“I can’t believe your comparing me to a fictional character in the movie you have watched. My real self is what I’m showing to you”.
“We’ll see about that” Desiree said and Nadia smiles.
Bryan came out from the convenience store to threw some expired products into the trashcan.
“Bryan” Desiree call him.
Bryan looks at her and then to Nadia, he bows slightly and went back inside the convenience store.
Desiree sighs.
“He sure knows how to hold grudges” Desiree said.
“Is everything okay with you both?… Who is he” Nadia asked.
“I don’t know how to introduce him to you, but let’s just say he’s kind of my brother from another mother and father”
“Oh, I think I understand where your coming from” Nadia said smiling.
“You should go ahead, I’ll talk to you at school tomorrow” Desiree said and enters the convenience store.
Nadia turns to leave and her phone buzzed.
She brought out the phone from her Versace bag and check the message.
? DON’T WORRY ABOUT ME, I’M OK NOW ?
Nadia smiles when she saw his message.
? I AM GLAD YOUR OKAY NOW. I WAS WORRIED, I LOVE YOU ?
She sent the message with a smile, before walking back to her car.
Desiree kept following Bryan from behind, as he walks from shelves to shelves.
A carton of cornflakes fell to the floor, while he was arranging them and Desiree was quick to pick it.
“Here you go Bryan” She said smiling.
Bryan sighs and takes it from her, without looking at her.
“Are you still mad at me?” She asked. But Bryan ignores and continues with what he was doing.
“I’m sorry Bryan. I didn’t know when that words came out from my mouth. I was just angry because you h!t a ladle on my head and called me a dirty girl, I’m so sorry Bryan” Desiree apologize.
But Bryan paid no attention to her.
“Your not a freeloader Bryan, neither are you leeching from my Dad. I take back my words. You have helped I and my Dad in so many ways.
The convenience store will have gone bankrupt if not for you, and the house will have definitely turn into a jungle if not for you. Your doing a lot for us Bryan and is my fault for saying those hurtful words to you, I’m sorry”
“There’s just two can of milk left” Bryan said to himself, pretending he didn’t hear all the speech Desiree just said.
“Are you just going to ignore my words like you didn’t hear it?”
“I’m paying for this” A customer said.
And Bryan went to meet the customer.
“The groceries you brought cost twenty five dollars ma’am” Bryan said cheerfully.
Desiree looks at him and sighs.
The lady paid for the things she brought and left.
Desiree was about altering a word, but Bryan left for the restroom.
“Why is he making it so hard for me?” She said fraustratingly.

THE CROMWELL’S MANSION***
One of the maids enters Dylan’s room and sees him awake already, going through his phone.
“Your awake already” She said and Dylan looks at her.
“Yes I’m” Dylan answers.
“Here you go” The maid said giving him a glass of milk.
“Thanks Mila” Dylan said taking the glass of milk from her.
Milia waited for him to consume the glass of milk before asking her question;
“What happened to you earlier sir. Dylan? My heart almost left me when I saw you unconscious on the floor. Are you sick?” Milia asked.
“No, I’m not sick”
“Then why did you faint ealier?” Milia asked again.
“I don’t know either, but I’m fine now”.
“Are you hungry? What should I prepare for you?” Milia asked.
Dylan was about answering her question, when Mrs. Cromwell enters the room furiously.
“Good evening ma’am” Milia greeted.
Mrs. Cromwell ignores her greetings, she walks closer to Dylan and slaps him.
“Ma’am!” Milia exclaims shockingly and covers her mouth afterwards.
“Why did you slap me mom?” Dylan asked.
But Mrs. Cromwell slaps him again.
“Why did you treat Barney like a trash ealier Dylan? Have you forgotten how important she is to this family, huh!!!” Mrs. Cromwell yells at Dylan.

“Is that all you care about? Aren’t you even going to ask me why I’m reclining on the bed” Dylan asked bitterly.
“Why your reclining isn’t the problem here Dylan!!! I know what your trying to do, but your plans won’t work.

The engagement between you and Barney will never be called off. So the faster you accept Barney as your life partner, the better is going to be for you” Mrs. Cromwell said and face Milia.
“Talk some scene into him” Mrs. Cromwell said and leaves the room.
“Sir…..”

“I want to be alone Milia” Dylan said.

Milia heaves a sigh and leaves the room.

Dylan tried so hard to fight back his tears, but it seems his eyes were betraying him.
He almost died earlier, but the woman he calls mom didn’t even know he’s sick, and that kind of hurt him a lot.
“Maybe I should just d!e, I’ve no reason to live in this earth anyways” He muttered painfully.
