Episode 14

“So you had a date with Theo?” Emily asked as she sat next to Nina in the classroom.
They both held opened notebooks with the intent of reading.
“How was it?” She added.
“Well, it was okay. He made me laugh all through” Nina replied with a broad smile.
“Really? I think you and theo are finally on good terms. Don’t you find it enjoyable?” Emily asked and Nina scoffed.
“Maybe it is”
They were still talking when a student came to Nina with a letter.
“Hi Nina. Maurice asked me to give this to yo” the lady said happily as she handed the letter to Nina abs left.
“Maurice sent you a letter?” Emily asked, befuddled.
Nina had some thoughts running through her as she tore open the letter.
It was indeed from Maurice – Emily’s crush
“Hi Nina,
I’ve been carrying this secret with Me for a long time now and I don’t think I can hold it any longer. I’m in love with you Nina and I’d really want you to give me a chance. I’ve heard of your betrothement with Theo but that doesn’t matter to me. Do think about it Nina.
Maurice”.
She read the letter together with Emily and they had no idea Theo was also reading from behind.
“Who sent this?” Theo asked with a flinched look as he quickly checked for a name.
“Maurice?” Nina wasn’t fast enough to close it up before he had a look.
“Maurice sent you a letter?” He asked confoundedly but Nina didn’t say anything as she focused on Emily who now had a look of consternation.
“Excuse me” she said in a cold voice and walked away before Nima could say a word to stop her.
Nina turned back to Theo’s direction and saw him also walking away.
“Theo?” She called but he didn’t reply.
“What’s going on?” She thought as she covered her face with her Palma.
“Theo, please. I’m sorry” Maurice pleaded in pains as Theo’s friends released hard blows On him with Theo standing by.
“Didn’t you have any idea you were messing with my fiancee?”
“I’m sorry theo. It was a silly mistake. I promise it won’t happen again.”
They were in an abandoned storage room and so, nobody could come to his rescue.
After a short time, Theo signaled his friends to stop.
“Listen to me, Maurice,” he said to him, holding him by the hair. “The next time I’d see you 250 meters around Nina, I’d make you go blind.

Nina walked into the elevator and just before the door closed up, Harmony rushed in.
They were just the only ones in.
“Hi” Nina said with a wave, feeling pleased to see her, but she didn’t reply immediately.
“Hi” she replied simply and Nina marveled.
“What a nice way of addressing your sister in law.” She thought.
The elevator came to a stop and the door went open for them.
“Don’t think I haven’t noticed your movement with that Alvin of a guy” Harmony said to her as they both walked out of the elevator.
“It seems you don’t know much about my brother. If he finds out you’re messing with him, he might end up killing both of you” she added belligerently and walked away.
Nina gawped at her as she walked away and felt bittered. She wandered why Harmony was trying to threaten her.
She also thought of Maurice. She couldn’t believe he had sent such a probleproblematic letter . She’s been looking for a way to get to Emily since then, but she seemed nowhere to be found.
She knew the letter from Maurice had hurt her, butbut she never intended for it to happen.
Just as if he busted our of her thoughts, she ran into Maurice. But he had been coming out of the school clinic and had some bruises on.
Out of shock, she ram to meet him, ignoring the busy eyes looking at them.
“Maurice? Are you alright? What happened to you?” She asked concerned but got a stern look from him.
“Please stay away from me, Nina. I don’t want any more trouble from your fiance” He replied angrily and left.
Nina felt cringe getting to know Theo had beaten up Maurice. Whoever gave him the right to go around hurting people in her name?
She set out in anger, scouring her eyes around for him. She really needed to make things clear to him.
Luckily for her, she found him around the premises and didn’t hesitate to go to him.
“Theo!” She called as she stood in front of him.
He could sense there was trouble amidst.
“Whoever told you you could go around reaming people in my name?” She asked embittered. “What gave you the ordersity to hurt Maurice?”
“Nina I…”
“Listen to me, Theo. We may be engaged but that doesn’t authorize you to act like my dad. My problems should he handled by me and me alone without anyone interfering violently. So, know your limits Theo” she said venialy and walked away, not listening to anything he had to say.
She stood by the gate , awaiting her ride home.
Her day km school had been the worst. She couldn’t find Emily, Maurice was beaten up because of her, Theo didn’t even make aby attempt to apologize to her and Alvin has been invisible all day. She couldn’t find him in the classroom and I’m the library where he usually stayed.
She had no one to talk to at all.
She was still waiting for her driver when a hand touched her from behind.
At first, she thought it was Theo, but when she turned around, surprisingly, it was Alvin.
“Alvin?” She called in surprised and had almost embraced him.
“Hi Nina. Waiting for someone?” He replied and asked with a smile – the smile that makes Nina go crazy.
“Uhm yes. My driver. By the way, where have you been? I couldn’t find you in school all day”.
“Yeah. I haven’t been around. Actually , I came late.”
“But why?’
“I just had to attend to something.”
They remained silent for a while, probably out of words.
“Do you mind if we took a stroll down the street? I need to get something from a store” Alvin said after a while.
“Okay sure. No problem.” Nina replied happily.
They set out on the road , bringing up little talks to kill any possible silence.
“By the way, Alvin. Sorry I couldn’t make it to the cathedral last night. I had to attend to something.”
“Really? What was that?”
“Oh nothing serious. I…just had a date with Theo.”
“Theo?”
They got to a place that looked like a club as a result of how crowded it was. But the song that attracted Nina was the song coming from inside. Someone was singing enchanted by Taylor Swift.
“Alvin, why don’t we have a look?” She asked ad she stretched her neck to have a proper look inside.
“What? Are you crazy? This looks like a disco hall, Nina.”
“Yes. But we’re only going to have a look. Come on Alvin”.
Before he could say something else, she grabbed his hand and whisked him into the club.
The whole place was lively as people around kept cheering and dancing.
The singer on stage sang happily with two ladies dancing in front of him.
“Come on Alvin. Dance with me” Nina said to him as she took his hands and turned from left to right.
She displayed some funny dance steps and made him laugh. .
?I was enchanted to meet you. ..? the singer sang the last lines of the song and ended it.
The audience cheered and clapped noisily as the Mc climbed up the stage.
“Who loved that performance?” The Mc asked wit a microphone and the people replied with cheers.
“That was awesome , guys. So, who’s next? Who’d want room sing?”
“Over here!”
It was Nina.
She waved at the Mc and dragged Alvin to the stage. All eyes turned on them.
“Nina what the hell are you doing?” Alvin asked as he forcefully followed her out.
“Please Alvin. Just one song for me. You can do it”
“No way. I can’t”
“Yes, you can. Just one song. I’ll stand next to you.”
“Please give it up for the cute couples over here” the Mc announced as they climbed up the stage and audience began clapping.
“Nina this is crazy” Alvin said.
“Yeah, I know. And I need something crazy.” She replied in jubilee as she handed a microphone to him.
He still felt shy and reluctant about it, but when Nina held his hands, he kind of felt relieverelieved.
He started with love story by Taylor Swift.

The instrumentalists were playing accordingly and the audience had begun dancing already.

Nina stood in front of him, screaming and dancing and from time to time, he’d hold her hand and twirl her around.
Immediately he ended the song, jubilations began in the hall and most of the audience brought out their phones And cameras to take pictures of him.
Nina embraced him and wrapped her hands around his shoulders while he held her closer by the waist, giving the audience a perfect posture.
“See? Thank me later” she said in excitement as the crowd continued cheering at them.
“Isn’t that amazing?” The Mc asked, climbing up the stage and arising more noise from the crowd.
Alvin also felt relieved after singing, but his joy died away when he saw someone he wished he didn’t have to see – his mom.
