GRUMPY AND THE PRIEST : EPISODE 11 – 20
Episode 16

“Emily, why have you stopped going to school?” Mrs Caroline asked during breakfast and Emily frowned.
“Whoever said I’ve stopped mom? Today’s weekend and there’s no school today.” She replied.
“I’m not just talking about today, Emily. I’m referring to the two days you’ve been absent from school.”
“Well , missing school for two days doesn’t mean I’m a dropout. And why are you so worried about it? It isn’t like you’re paying a dime for it, right?”
“Emily” her rogue brother who had been smoking outside came into the house and called.
“What?” She replied impatiently, sounding pissed off.
“Will you watch your tongue before I cut off your voice?” he asked and paused.
“Someone’s looking for you. She’s outside” he continued and walked out again.
Emily walked out the door, wandering whom was looking for her. And to her ultimate surprise, it was Mrs Lana, Alvin’s mom.
“Good…good morning, ma””she greeted nervously as she stood in front of her.
She was standing next to her car with her driver standing behind. She wore a black spec and looked like she was going to collapse any moment due to the inconvenient environment.
“Hi Emily. Howre you doing?” She replied and asked.
“I’m fine ma. Is…is there something I can do for you?”
Mrs Lana sighed and adjusted the blue bag on her wrist.
“Yes, Emily.” She said. “I’ve noticed you’re a close friend to Nina and actually, there’s something I need you to do for me.”

Nina had been trimming the flowers in the garden when and maid arrived with Theo.
She gasped when she took a proper look at him and noticed what he was putting on. It was the white turtle neck and pair of black jeans – the first sign she had asked for.
He passed it!
“Hello there” Theo said as he gaited to where she was, holding a flower.
“Hi. Good morning” she replied dazily.
“Working in the garden? I never you could handle a tool”.
The maid had already left.
“So how are you?” He asked, puzzling at her strange state.
“I’m…I’m fine. What are you doing here? ”
“I just cane to give you some morning flowers.” He replied and gave the flowers to her.
“You came all the way just to give me flowers?” She asked, a bit surprised.
“Yes. Isn’t it worth it?” He paused and laughed.
“By the way,” he continued. “Could we go out later in the evening?”
“To where?”
“Don’t know. Just to have dinner”.
Nina remained silent for a while. It appeared Theo was passing all her signs.
“Nina? )”he broke unit her thoughts.
“Uhm… okay. Sure. We can meet up.” She managed to say.”
“Perfect! I’ll pick you up by 6”.
“Okay. Bye”.
“Bye pretty” he replied and left ,beaming with smiles.

Nina had kept thinking about Theo the whole time, wandering if he’d be able pass all her tests.
And if she did, she wandered if that meant they were destined to be. She couldn’t help but think all about it.
She was in the sitting room when a knock came on the door and she went to check it out. She opened the door and surprisingly, it was Emily.
It got her fazed ad she kept staring at her, muted. She never expected her visit so soon.
“Hi” Emily said in a serene tune, bending her head a little.
“Emily? What…what’re you doing here? I’ve actually been worried about you” Nina replied, still surprised.
“They were still standing outside with Nina standing in between the door.
“Nina, I’m so sorry for what happened. I’m sorry for acting so foolishly. I…I was just a bit jealous”.
Immediately, Nina embraced her, feeling excited.
“It’s okay, Emily. I understand” she said.
“So, you’ve forgiven me?”
“Can there be forgiveness when there’s no offense?” Nina asked and they laughed.
“Come in.”

It was 5 pm.
Alvin was looking his best as he stood by the bridge with a bunch of dazzling flowers. He felt it was the right time to make a decision for himself.
It was high time he stopped being a tool for others.
He brought out a phone and texted Nina:
“Meet me by the bridge. It’s important”.
He heaved a sigh and gazed at the water.
They were other couples on the bridge, enjoying a good time and this really motivated him. He couldn’t wait for Nina to arrive so he could open up to her.
Instantly, a text returned to his phone, from Nina.
But surprisingly, it read:
“Sorry, I’m having dinner with Theo. And please, I’d suggest you don’t call for now. I really can’t stand him asking questions about my phone”.

Nina sat beside Theo in the back seat as the car drove to Theo’s arranged location.
They kept bringing up little chats until the car came to a stop. They came out and with Theo’s hands holding hers, they marched forward and got to the beach.
She turned to Theo and asked:
“You. ..you brought me to the beach?”
“Well, what does it look like? Does it look like a stream?” Theo asked and chuckled.
“Come on” he continued and led her to a table, holding her hand.
They were so many people on the beach but Theo had taken her to a place they wouldn’t be disturbed and of course, they had guards on standby.
Nina was absent minded and kept thinking about Theo passing all the tests. He had just one more to go. Was he really her soul mate?
“What would you like to take, Nina?” Theo asked as he called on a waiter who came immediately.
Nina took the menu from the table and went through it. Her favorite meal was there – pot roast.
She gave a light smile and tossed the menu to Theo.
“Make a choice for me” she said and he furrowed his brows in surprise.
“But why?” He asked.
“Just do it, Theo”.
Theo also took the menu and had a look at it.
Although, his little teddy trick had helped him a lot in passing the first two signs, he still had a little problem on the third because he had no idea what her favorite American meal was.
He really wanted to pass the test and get her to like him and that was why he brought up the teddy idea so he could know her every thoughts. But it seemed there was trying to be a little problem in his plans.
“Why are you taking so long?” Nina asked after a while of silence.
He smiled and went back to looking at the menu. He saw a lot of nice dishes but couldn’t figure out her favorite.
Then for a moment, he closed his eyes and when he opened them, still on the menu, he said to the waiter:
“Get her the pot roast”
“Okay. And you sir?” The waiter replied and asked.
“Just get me a peach cobbler with a bottle of sweet heaven.”
“Okay sir”. The waiter replies and left.
“Nina, are you alright?” Theo asked after a short while, noticing the foxed look on her face.
“I’m…I’m fine. I’m fine”.
She remained reticent through out the dinner and although it was kind of boring, Theo still enjoyed it because he had passed all her tests and manifested the three signs.
He was brimful with excitement but was trying so hard to hide it so Nina doesn’t suspect a thing.
He took her home when they were done, dropping her off at the gate. He followed her out of the car and was expecting the other gift
.
“Thanks for dinner. It fun” She said to him as they stood in front of the gate.
“No problem, Nina. You know you’re always welcomed” he replied and she smiled.
“Goodnight” she said and turned around to leave, but stopped.
She knew she had to give him something for passing the test as agreed with her teddy. But she felt so reluctant about it.
She never thought of kissing Theo, at least not at that moment . But she had to.
“Is there a problem?” Theo asked, still standing behind her.
“She remained silent for a while and slowly, she turned around and kssed him.
“Goodnight” she mumbled and walked in, not waiting for a reply from home.

Alvin stood at a corner, watching with rueful eyes as Nina kissed Theo.
He’s been waiting at the bridge for a long time, hoping on Nina’s arrival even after receiving her text. But she never showed up. Even the other couples on the bridge had dwindled away until he was just the only one left.
He had decided to come over to her house to see if he could get a glimpse of her but on getting there, he saw her coming out of the car with Theo and had to hid somewhere to avoid being seen.
He watched helplessly as she kssed him and walked in, pinning smiles on Theo’s face.
He felt buggered as he thought of his plans being ruined.
He had made up his mind to confess his love to Nina and face the consequences that’d follow. He had decided to take the risk all for her. But, fate seemed to had changed everything.
Perhaps, his plans could only be a fantasy and they were never meant to be – not even for a second.
He walked away, heartbroken as he threw the flowers on the floor and wiped off his tears.
