CHAPTER 14
Jimi could not continue to ignore his Mom, he had to face the inevitable.
It’s not like she was going to back down anytime soon for as long as she didn’t hear from him, she was going to keep trying
But their difference in point of view is what made jimi left the house in the first place. It sickening to know that even at this age his mom wants to dictate how he is suppose to live his life.
Over the years it didn’t really matter, because she was always going to be the overly concerned mother who tries to control her son’s life
But now it’s so excessive, Jimi can no longer pretend to play along……. But then whatever the situation maybe, she is still his mother and the best one at that
So he went to the house to see her,he made sure he got there early before she leaves for the store.
She was having breakfast when he arrived he joined her at the dinning and peeked her cheeks
“Ohh Jimi my darling, is so good to see you..how have you been…you look well but a little lean, I hope you have been eating well”
“Am feeling great.thanks mom”
“Oh okay, would you like to join me for breakfast….No you are joining me for breakfast…… Kike pls bring teacup and a plate for Jimi…….” She instructed our maid
“Am really not hungry mom”
“Well then just drink tea with me. It’s been awhile”.
“Have been really worried Jimi. Even if you wanted to leave the house for a while why didn’t you inform us of your whereabout”
“I didn’t want you to know about my whereabout mom. That’s the whole point”
“Folajimi are you really just trying to increase my blood pressure and give me sleepless nights”
“Well as you can see am doing fine. You don’t have to worry, am not a kid anymore. I haven’t been one for so many years I just wish you would start seeing me like the grown up that I am”
“You know I don’t question your maturity but I don’t think I have ever seen it somewhere that tossing your family during tough time is a good idea”
“Mommy is really not that big of a deal. I moved out of the house because it was about time”
“It’s not just about you moving out, I know you left this out so you can have the freedom to waste your time with those riff raffs that you mingle with. ”
“Then you have to believe me when I say am on my best behavior, you are not going to see me in the tabloids or news causing any trouble….so pls let’s just move pass that”
“It’s like you don’t know what is at stake here. The future of this family is on you Folajimi, you are the only one that would continue this family legacy. And the rate you are going, you’ll be doing alot of damage than good that’s why am so bothered about who you mess with. I don’t want you to end up getting some slum girl pregnant and end up destroying your future. You need a reputable family to conjoin with. Make sure you are dealing with someone with a good background ”
“Like Nancy Okon”
“I am not pinning you to her but am not going to deny she’s the best you’ve ever had”
“This talk is getting cold and everything we warm it up it taste worse than before.
Am not going to live my life on your terms, if am going to get married it is going to be who I want to spend the rest of my life with”
“I don’t dispute that obviously we are not in the century where parents decide for their children but as your mother it is my duty to guide you”
“I’ve gotten enough guidance as it is, pls focus on Simisola for a change. Let me live my life and if I trip, don’t worry I’ll bounce back up ..am old enough”
He stood up wrapping the conversation
“Breakfast was nice.
Thanks mom, am going to pick some stuffs from my old room and be on my way”
“Jimi are you sure you don’t wanna stay for the weekend. Lemme feed you this weekend you look so skinny . ”
He shook his head.
She’s never going to stop treating him like a child
“No ma,am fine”
“Are you sure. I mean I could send food over to your place just gimme the address”
“Am not going to give you the address of where I stay Mom, so you can stalk me”
“What are you saying Jimi. How do you think it sounds that a mother doesn’t know where her son stays”
Jimi hurried upstairs to escape his mother’s attempt to lure him into giving her Philip’s address, maybe he should still consider moving out……

The following weekend, Jimi visited the gym.
Today’s routine was filled with exhausting and strenuous exercises, the fitness instructor by the end of the first session most people were returning home already.
Including Jimi as he was heading out of the gym a petite light in complexion girl stopped in front of him and won’t stop giggling
“Hey. ” she said in her tiny voice
“Hey.. ”Jimi replies hastily, his backs hurt and he needed a nice shower and enough rest so he kept moving
“Ohh you don’t remember me”
Isn’t it quite obvious, Jimi almost blurted out. “Nope” he said eventually
“Ouch, wow Jimi you must know a lot of people, I feel bad you can’t even recognize me ” she emphasis
“It’s not like that, you just remind me today and I promise not to forget next time”
“Alright, am Linda ”
she started giggling like a child again.
Geez where on earth did he find this one.. Even the name doesn’t click, the only Linda he recalls is the cute Ghanaian babe that used to Skype him when she misses him other than that no Linda in his memory but he had to fake the remembrance
“Oh Linda, nice to see you again ”
he smiled trying to play along
out of nowhere a very familiar face interrupted them very rudely, the babyish smile on Linda’s face had disappeared and so was Jimi’s acting
“What is going on here”
Jimi stared at Laura, he actually recognized her instantly, she was the same tough controlling bch, he had recently found out that she uses this gym too but he hasn’t seen her face to face
..it’s indeed a small world he had never thought he’d ever have to face this uptight crazy a$s bch ever again after he broke off his ties with her for good,
And here she is acting all ¢razy
“What does it look like to you.. ”Jimi asked disgustingly
“I’m not talking to you. I’m talking to my sister”
“Wait what.. Is she your sister ” Linda nods
“And since you are so dumb that you do not realize you are talking to a child I’d better step in to knock senses into your head. You practically follow everything in skirts everywhere and now you’ve advance to underage”
“Geez Sis do you always have to embarrass me.. I’m not a child I’m over eighteen already”
“You are still a child Linda”
“No am not, and you don’t have the right to ruin my life like this.. We were not even doing anything we were just talking”
“Where that’s how it starts”
“Unbelievable Sis, because it didn’t work out for you doesn’t mean it won’t work out for me”
“Just shut up, what do you know”
“Apparently you’re still not over Jimi Benson and you won’t let others breath. So what if he likes me, what if we are an item. Are you going to hang yourself”
“Watch your mind you stupid brat”
Jimi watched for a while the heated argument between the two sisters before sneaking out of their midst, that small rat is already considering them as a couple, someone he doesn’t even remember.
Girls sha even know that little thing may look matured but she’s just as dumb as her sister …never again is he coming back to this gym,
He had to find somewhere else entirely to spend his Saturday mornings, he hurried to his car and drove out even faster as Linda rushed outside and was obviously searching for him ‘

Diana, Philip and Martha were engrossed in a heated ludo game when Jimi arrived at the house. Jimi could practically hear them argue and giggle loudly from the corridor.
The house was usually very quiet the other tenant recently travelled abroad so it was just Philip and Diana. Instead of heading straight to his room and take a nice shower he decided to head to the corridor
“Hey Jimi, you’re back”
“Yup.. ”
“You should really be going to the gym with jimi Philip, how are you going to get rid of that pot belly if stay home all day”
Martha teased
“I don’t have a pot belly” they all bursted out laughing.
“So who’s leading”
“It’s actually Martha”
“Which is very strange because Martha always loses to me”.
Diana shrugs loudly
“It’s not my fault, it just luck”
“Luck indeed ”she stood promptly ” oh that reminds me guys. Guess who will be a year older in a few weeks,” they all glared at her
“My princess Abby and I have been thinking on how to throw a small party and I couldn’t get down to anything significant so I am asking for your help”
“Oh heavens Di, did you even have to ask
Of course we are here for you and Abby”
“I can’t wait to celebrate my baby girl”
“When exactly is it”
“August fifth”
“Oh it’s Just a few weeks from now”
“Yeah, my cousin always plans Abby’s birthdays, last year I kinda promised her a super super fifth birthday party but because I was in Calabar for my youth service, I couldn’t make it”
“Don’t worry this year is going to be worth the wait”
“I hope so am thinking of inviting Mrs Lawal’s kids, she lives on the next street and her daughter Ayisa is Abby’s classmate then maybe I can talk to some of the moms at church to bring their kids over or what do you think”
“Wait! How many kids are you expecting”
“Hmm I guess about 10 kids”
They burst into round of laughter
“10 kids are you kidding me”
“Can you even call that a party.”
“Is that what you call a super super birthday party”
“Cmon guys .I’m really inexperienced in this sort of things”
“Abby is about to turn 6 are you saying you have never thrown her a birthday party”
“My cousin Betty always have her way with it, I never really do anything I hardly know enough people and we are still new in the neighborhood”
“You just h it the nail on the head, but Diana just because you don’t know people doesn’t mean your daughter doesn’t.. people love parties, throw an invite and ten people will turn up”
“Am not inviting strangers to my house”
“Who says anything about doing it in your house. We are going to throw princess Abby her a wonderful birthday.. You don’t have to worry”
“I don’t know what to say”
“You don’t have to say anything..”
“Thanks guys.. I appreciate”
“You can thank us after a successful birthday party”

Later same day, Jimi was hanging out with Steve and Murphy at a small bar playing snooker.
“Chai if I lose this time, I’ve got to buy another round of shots…. this is not fair ,Jimi has not even lost once”
“That’s because the master of snooker himself is not here, so Jimi is just rocking the game”
“Oh you mean BK, why is he not here sef”
“He’s in Abuja.. Business calls as usual”
Jimi acts indifference to them talking about BJ and continues to play pool
“And I was thinking its because of the little misunderstanding you had that’s why he was staying away”
“You guys are best buddies, that little leakage is getting old already it time to fix the dmn problem”
Jimi concentrated on the game and ends up running more balls down the hole earning more points
” Bang! You lose Steve go get us another round”
“But I thought it Murphy’s turn”
“You slack too much that’s one’s off, you have the lowest point this round so get to it”
Steve reluctantly head to bar ‘
“So Murphy I was wondering when you had your daughter’s birthday party what were the major things you had to consider.. You know in organizing the birthday”
“My man alot actually, you’d be surprise how hard it is to please those little chickens, but my mom did a great job she put everything into consideration, it turned out better than I imagined, but I spent a lot. Those kids stuff are so dmn expensive”
“Oh so what and what did you put in place. I need the details”
“Uhmn, wait Jimi why are you asking me all this, you’ve never been interested in kids and their drama. Why are you asking like you are about to throw a birthday party”
“I actually am”
Murphy laughs loudly
“This is the biggest joke of the season ….yeah you got me thanks for cracking me up… Ahhah ah very funny”
“Am really serious Murphy, I just need a clue or opinion I can pass to a friend who needs help throwing a birthday party”
“I don’t understand why anyone would ask you Jimi for kids birthdays advice, you of all people”
“Oh Murphy stop joking around am being dmn serious, hurry Steve is on his way already just tell me later”
“Okay one quick question, are you banging the child’s mother ”he grins loudly
