Diana was gisting with joy at the reception lobby. Joy seemed to have nice ideas about throwing a birthday party and she listened to her opinions.
Work was over for the day so she wasn’t scared of being rudely interrupted by their boss lady as they went on gisting freely at the reception
“So you think I should take Abby to the studio”
“Yes you should, just get her nice outfits, make sure she has a good hair do and then take her to where you can be sure to get good quality pictures and boom we have Abby’s pictures for the balloon, signpost and parcel”
Diana seemed confused, which one is signpost again for ordinary birthday. This is growing fast out of her control but she nodded and answer
“Sounds cool, but I might need to go shopping for that.”
“Of course, there’s a general market here on the island, you will be able to select from varieties and it is quite affordable and if you want to go the children section in Balogun everything is there”
“But Joy you know I don’t really know anywhere”
“Don’t worry I’ll take you there myself.. It’s the least I can do for princess Abby”
Diana smiled
” thanks Joy, so you will be coming with your nephew to our birthday
“Who is celebrating a birthday ”Murphy asked on his way out
“What is your business with that ”joy teased ”
“I just want to know, so I can empty my stomach before then”
“Can you imagine, you better go and get your own gift ready this is not of the birthdays that you collect from this is actually one that you give out, so if you are giving out don’t bother coming”
“Give out what” he winked at Joy
“It’s actually my daughter’s birthday Mr Murphy, next week”
“Ohh do you know I often forget that you are a mother most times, some have not even given birth and they are already looking like a grandma”
He nods at Joy while she smacks him playfully
“Now I look like your grandma. You have forgotten all those days were you use to call me your ray of sunshine abi”
“Rotten mind”
“I didn’t say that I’m just trying to say that Diana is too sxy to fit into the mommy’s category. You never stopped being my ray of sunshine”
They all burst into laughter
“Anyways ladies, I’ve got to go. Say me hi to your daughter and wish her happy Birthday in advance”
“I will, thanks Mr Murphy “he head to the elevator
Marcel head towards them as Murphy was leaving
“Hi ladies. ”they both turn to him and Joy smiled wholeheartedly at him blushing
” can I have a minute with you Diana”
“Yeah sure.. I’ll be back joy”
‘they moved to the lobby ” what’s up Mr Roland”
“It’s Marcel, Diana, just Marcel.. Calling Mr Roberts makes me feel like am married to my cousin”
Marcel Roland is the executive director of Roland logistics, he is stationed at the Branch in ikeja but he always drops by every now and then to get some work done
“Alright Marcel”
“How was work today”
“Very well thank you”
“So are you heading home now”
“Yeah any moment from now”
“Okay. So I was wondering if you would like to get dinner. I know a really nice place we can dine together”
“Together” she repeated like she was confused but she understood what he meant
“Yeah just dinner of course” he hinted
“I would love to but my daughter is alone at home and I can’t be out late”
“Oh okay so uhm what about Friday”
“Friday”
“you see there’s this business dinner on Friday and I kinda need a date so I was wondering if you’d like to go accompany me”
Diana fell quiet, Marcel was a great guy and he has always been so nice to her and respectful but she didn’t really like how this was going, so she took her time to composed the right answer
“Mr… Marcel, I am really honored for the invitation but I can’t, I can’t make it this Friday”
his face turned cold
” why.”
“I am occupied with other things” she didn’t want to use the daughter line again it was obvious she was making excuses
“Like what, your daughter”
as much as she wanted to end this conversation she just doesn’t want to lie with Abby so
” not just that but I don’t want any ideas, you know rumors and opinions. I just don’t want people to see this the wrong way”
“People like who, Anita or me “Diana nodded swiftly to both options
” ohh come on Diana am not imposing anything of course Anita would be there too but you and I are at least friends am asking you out as a friend. And I don’t see how any of this concern anybody else including Anita”
She let out a deep breath. He is really on to this, saying no would be rude
“I will get back to you then”
“Are you really not going to consider this at all”
“I am but now I have to consider my daughter I have to speak to my friend to see if she can stay with Abby then I can go.”
“Well I hope to hear good news, I’d really like for you to come with me”
Diana smiled as he walked away
At BJ’s club, Murphy Steve and BJ were getting drunk in their usual corner, the most secluded part of the club
“I think I miss Jimi on a day like this”
Steve started slowly sipping his drink
“That dude sure knows how to light up the party, imagine us drinking on our own with all this beautiful ladies roaming around”
Murphy nods
“If you want one all you need to do is talk to any of them, must Jimi be here to lighten the mood or party all the time” BJ pointed out sniffing his ¢igar
“Since when is that a problem. Talking to a girl is easy getting Jimi to do the talking is more fun”
“Yeah whatever. Don’t say I didn’t tell you when all these girls get taken by those paupers down there”
“Like am going to waste my time with any of those skinny underaged girls, there can come and auction them. Na them Sabi” murphy hissed
“When you know you are not interested why did you ask, you just had to bring Jimi Benson into this conversation so I can know he isn’t here”
“Your riff with him is getting old man, it’s time to grow up” Steve slide in
“I’m grown ..he is the one acting like a kid”
“Kids or not, you guys have been Bros forever now is not the time to give up on that”
“Speaking of kids and Jimi, the last time we hang out with Jimi he had asked me for advice on how to throw a birthday party for a child, have forgotten about it until I heard Diana that Philip’s neighbor talking about throwing a birthday party for her daughter next week…..
I mean that’s no coincidence that his neighbour Diana is throwing birthday party for her daughter around the same time Jimi is buzzing for birthday party advic. I mean what are the odds that Jimi is seriously trying to impress this lady”
“From what I know, Jimi hates her guts.. He hates how she manipulate Philip to babysit for her daughter. Why would he want to impress her” Steve asked
“Well then why would he ask me to get her a job at our company”
“He did what?… Maybe he has tripped for her charm too, truth be told the girl is divine”
“What girl are you guys talking about” BK asked
“Jimi’s sxy as h’ll hot banging single mother charming neighbour”
“What are you saying”
” What Murphy is trying to say is that Jimi’s neighbour is a hot fine single mother”
“Hmmm interesting….., And you think he might be s¢rewing her”
“We don’t know for sure, but it might just be the reason he’s changed so much and he doesn’t hangout with us often”
“That reminds me my friend Owolabi the housing agent that I introduced to Jimi called me. He told me that Jimi quit house hunting for now says he still likes where he is staying presently…. You know where he is scotting with Philip the nerdy lawyer”
“Jimi likes living with that moron, impossible” BJ defended
“But what if Jimi is not concerned about his dumb roomie but the beautiful lady next door”
“Hmmm”
“That’s something my Jimi can do to get what he wants”
“I still find it difficult to believe.. Wait! How fine is this babe sef”
Murphy and Steve stared at each other simultaneously
“She fine die…. ”
“No caps the girl set””

Jimi was in his room trying to catch some sleep when his phone started ringing he leaned over and glanced at it, it was an unknown number,
Jimi hates unknown number and most times he picks it up he always regretted his action, the phone rings again and this time True caller brought the caller ID as ‘LK Gymnastics ‘reluctantly Jimi picked the call and held it to his ear
“Hello”
“Hello, Jimi couldn’t you have picked earlier, you have started misbehaving again”
“Sorry who’s this” he glance at the phone again
“What do you mean by who is this, are you trying to say you don’t have my number again”
“I won’t be asking if I already know who you are”
“I guess you didn’t succeed in getting it from my sister, even by now you should have recognized my voice anyway it’s me Laura”
Jimi cracked his head for a while, oh the same crazy Laura the gymnast
“Oh hi Laura good to hear from you” he rubs his eyes really regretting that he answered this call and disrupted his sleep
“Don’t flatter yourself, am only making the effort to call because have seen you try too hard.
‘what was she talking about
” okay.. ” was all he could manage to say as he yawned
“So am currently at eagles club and I am stranded can you come pick up”
“What! Why! ..”
“Long story can you get your a$s here as soon as possible”
“H’ll no ”he blurted out
“Excuse you….Why not, am giving you a chance to redeem yourself and you are saying you don’t want it”
“Redeem myself, what are you talking about”
“Hello! all your acts to get me to notice you.. finally clicked dumba$s , you started using my gym and even try to use my sister to make me jealous”
“No Laura you got it all wrong, I didn’t start using that gym because of you. I now live close by and that’s why I started going there. I didn’t even know you own the place before coming there”
“What are you trying to say”
“That am not interested in getting back together at all, your sister is another case entirely, she was claiming to know me and I can’t remember seeing or hearing about her before. Look if it wasn’t so late at night I would have considered coming to pick you but the estate gates are shut at exactly 10pm, so I can’t be there……sorry”
He wanted to hang up but she jumps in quickly
“You’re being serious.. How could I have been so foolish, what was I thinking, why did you give me all those signs why didn’t…you just come direct instead of playing silly mind games . Jimi Benson you are an a$shole,I can’t believe I let myself get fooled by you again. ”’
Jimi hung up before hearing any more of her rants, he hissed and cussed himself.. Of all the ways to ruin his already tormented night this ¢razy girl had to call and make up all this ¢razy assumptions she could even go as far as to bark orders at him.
No wonder they didn’t last a month, she was the kinda girl that would want to tell her boyfriend where to sit and whom to talk to. Her ego is the size of the sun and doesn’t even include the fact that she could lift 200 pounds of weight, she’s a bully in and out of the gym he hopes this is the last time he ever hears from her and her stupid giggling sister
