CHAPTER 34
Esther was at her friend’s salon making her hair, she was busy on her phone when a mother and daughter strolled in and they were dabbling on what hairstyle to make
At some point she raised her head to see what the commotion was about, only to see the same lady Jimi was with at dinner the other day
She had a smirk on her face, it’s indeed a small world and keeping track of Jimi’s life has just become easier.
This is fate bringing her to cross paths with this riff raff, it is going to be so easy to pull her apart now that Jimi is not lurking around in the corner
Before she could even start to think of where to begin she heard the little girl call Diana mom several times and that really got her attention. She immediately turned to be sure she wasn’t hearing wrong
“Oh look who we have here” she was staring directly at Diana and Abby with a big smile on her face
“What a coincidence”
Diana day just turned sour from seeing this annoying loose nuts here.
What was she doing here?
“Hello” Diana said and turn away from her
“Aren’t you going to introduce me to the little gem”
Diana ignored her and raised Abby to sit on one of the chairs
“Okay…. I guess am going to do the introduction myself”
“Hello sweetheart my name is Esther and am your mom’s….”
Her mom’s rival seem like a pretty strong cord so she went for the less believable but more appropriate term
“Am your mom’s friend”
“We’re not friends.” Diana corrected immediately
“I didn’t even know your name until now”
“Well let’s say we didn’t meet on the best of circumstances , but we can kick off on the different note”
“Hmmm….. Aunty Uduak”
Diana turned to the salon owner
“Abby wants to make something simple, school is resuming Monday and we have not concluded on what we want so we are going to leave it all to you and let’s you do your magic”
Uduak smiled and approached them
“Well you don’t have too worry we are going to fix you up nicely Abby”
“Thank you. Nothing too much or fancy coz she’s already scratching since yesterday. The very moment she heard we are coming to the salon”
“Ahhh Abby. Naughty girl but when you finish making the hair you will start doing shakara”
“Don’t mind her. Okay am going to go out and get you something to eat so just stay put. I’ll be back”
“Mommy don’t forget to buy plantain chips”
Esther finally got the confirmation that she needed and as Diana was going out, e
Esther followed her out of the salon even though she was not done with her hair
“Diana hey! Wait up!”
What’s now… What does she want’
“Am not trying to cause trouble Diana, but am out of curiosity I just wanna know if what I just heard is true. The little girl in the salon just called you mommy.”
Diana raised a brow. Waiting for her to get to the point
“I mean this is the part where you defend that narrative or deny it”
“I don’t remember owning you any explanation about my life”
“Relax babe. You are so worked up am just asking nicely, I mean are you actually admitting that you are a mother”
“Hmm hmm”
“Wow! That’s incredible. I don’t know what to say ……congratulations. you must have a really happy family, motherhood must be very exciting”
“I don’t have time for this nonsense”
“I know but what I understand is how Jimi Benson can be attracted to you knowing that you are a mother. Wait are you married? Divorced?”
“And get again we are talking about Jimi. You’ve completely lost your mind lady and you need help. If you think am going to stand here and argue about a man with you, you are insane, crazier than to be walking freely. I have better things to do with my time and if you ever approach me with this nonsense again, am going to descend on you like a rock. Crazy lady”
She hissed and walked across the road
Esther was escalated by the news she just got and could care less what Diana thinks of her
“If an going to do better amebo, I better get the gist from the right source so it can be valid information”
She said to herself before hurrying back to the salon to continue her hair

When she finished making her hair she head straight to Nancy’s apartment. And her timing was perfect because Simisola was there too.
She couldn’t wait to drop the hot boiling new info she just figured out
“Guys guys. You will not believe what I found out today”
Knowing Esther, Simi wasn’t thrilled one bit to hear whatever she has to say
Nancy wasn’t sure if this is another cooked up story or bunch of lies that she has fabricated on her way here
“I can see you are all anxious. I had to go extra mile to cross check the story so this one is fact”
Simi and Nancy stare at each other confirming that it was nothing worth their time
“We were actually on our way out”
Nancy said quickly
“Eh but I just got here. You guys should chill I need to catch my breath before we start going”
“Uh I think you misunderstood Esther. There’s no we in this context, it just myself and Nancy”
“We’re just going down the road it’s not somewhere far”
Nancy tried to justify their excuse
“And am going to tag along”
“No sweetie you can’t tag along” Nancy said nicely
“Why not?”
“Because we already made reservations and no need for you to come along.
No! they do not take short term notice bookings and No! You cannot sit and wait in the lobby either”
Simi answered the next three likely questions she was going to ask, shutting her up as she turn to Nancy
“Uhm I didn’t know you’ll be done with your hair so soon I would have included you”
Nancy said with a faint smile
“Yeah whatever” she said surprising them both
“That reminds me I said I had hot gist you girls didn’t even ask what it is”
Simi rolled her eyes dramatically
Nancy cleared her throat
“Guess who I met at my friend’s salon today”
“Who!”
“Jimi’s new plaything”
Graaaaahhhh !! Both ladies want to scream at her but s
Simi really wanted to throw a pillow
“I know you guys haven’t met her yet but she’s quite an handful, girl gat balls like she’s totally fire. Very different”
“Hmmm interesting. My mom said the same thing” Simi chipped in
“Your mom met her already. How?”
Nancy was confused and Simi immediately regret adding a comment
“Recently he brought her to the house”
“Oh! really!” Her voice was inaudible but Simi could make out what she was saying
“It’s only been three months and he’s already showing off his new girlfriend to his parents”
“Worry not ladies because this one is not going to last. She’s just making noise, her case is a foul move”
“How do you mean”
“Her name is Diana and she has a daughter”
“What!”
“Yup. She has a daughter about six to seven years”
“Are you sure about this”
“Positive. I was in the salon with them for over an hour I even confronted her about it and she admitted,
now We all know Jimi Benson can’t stand children and his vague opinion about single mothers and their carelessness”
“So why would he go out with her. ”
“That’s quite a challenge and am guessing that’s why he is with her. For fun, Jimi loves a good challenge even though it goes against his principles. ”
Simi took deep breaths, this is really unlike Kimi. He doesn’t date moms and he’s very particular about raising babies when you are not ready
“So are you trying to say she’s a single mom”
“Maybe divorced or separated. Either way they are always the most vulnerable”
“This doesn’t make any sense”
“Trust me it does. ” Nancy agreed
“All I know is she’s toast, she doesn’t know what’s about the h it her”
Esther burst into laughter

Monday morning
Jimi was wrapping up his life at “Pyramid way” he had started about 3years ago when he had been ruthlessly fired from his own company at first it sounded like a joke when his mom told him he had to seek experience elsewhere
Maybe he s¢rewed a major deal but it wasn’t entirely his fault, he had been carried away with other things but the company had always been his priority
Working out was not a assignment for him it was an obligation and he always took his work seriously
Losing ownership of his birthright had been a tough fall for him, he had majored in business administration only because his family had tonnes of business that he thought he had to be in control of when he was done with his studies.
After his masters degree he had gone through intensive business school for a year. Only for him to run his own company for only six months and everything went down the drain
The presentation that almost cause the company billions of naira just because somebody somewhere wasn’t happy with him they decided to mess up his work
He wasn’t proud of himself but he felt like the punishment was too severe and irrelevant, after kicking him out of Benson’s corporations that deals with import and export, they didn’t even allow him to managed benson’s estate even worst they didn’t even let him work for his uncle at Wole Benson transportation company that has branches in Lagos and in the united states
That was a tough blow on him, his mother was strict about it and his father was unyielding
Growing up from a wealthy family or being born with a silver spoon doesn’t actually present everything in golden platter in Jimi’s case it makes responsibility even more and expectations higher
All his life he had to work double, study harder, aim higher just to put a smile on his parents face, yes he may have had his fun but he never really meant to hurt anyone. Carrying on the family’s legacy is something that has been imbedded in him since he was little
So watching his parents strip off the one thing they had prepared him for his whole life was the lowest he had ever been but he got up, dust off the mud and pick up the pace
Pyramid way, had been a stepping stone for him although he had been prepared to work for his family so he had no idea what working for others would require and he learned the hardway
When he got kicked out he thought he could stay miserable until his family decide to give him another chance, but when the chance didn’t come as quickly as he would have wanted he decided to try something out and that something turned out to be Pyramid way, his company for 3 years
Almost everyone was aware that his family owned a huge corporations including his bosses which kinda set him on the edge, which he is grateful for because it set him on the business map ,put him on the spotlight and it was very challenging but he still pull through
Pyramid way is a business organization that puts two and two together, they link organizations together and create successful merger they also run sideline online market but their major input had been helping other companies to cross over loop holes and trying period. It is like an insurance for companies and survival nest for companies to continue to grow and expand
The door opened and a very confused and concerned Steve walked in, truthfully Jimi only remembered meeting Steve in this company but according to him they had met at an all white party somewhere he couldn’t remember.
So pyramid way didn’t just gimme three years of bone breaking experience but also good friendship
“Hey Stevie”
“Jimi Benson, what have you gotten yourself in to now”
“What are you talking about?”
“I heard That you were fired”
“What! No” rumors never get it right on it way down
“Then why are you clearing your desk”
“Well it isn’t because I got fired”
“Then what because am just coming from the lobby where everyone is saying something about you being fired or..”
“Or what?”
“Or you quit”
“Why didn’t you opt for the second option, why would you think I got fired”
“Because its very unlikely that you’d quit……..but why would you quit”
“I got a better offer”
“Oh please. ” He scoffs
” wait! What… Did you get rehired to your company”
“It appears so”
“No kidding” he grinned broadly
Jimi nods
“Oh Wow!..You did it Jimi finally ”
Steve gave him a bro hug
” Congratulations my gee….this is great news but are you sure you are not acting on an impulse coz Michael won’t give you back your job once you hand him that letter. I just need you to make sure you are solid”
“Yes am solid and no I dont intend to come back, I heard the news from the lion’s mouth himself am due to start tomorrow, infact today but I just had to clean this table and sort out some other things”
“So your dad’s back and he gave you back your job…… That’s incredible news am really happy for you man”
“Yeah thanks”
“But why didn’t you tell us he was back or sharing the news with us first instead of having to hear it from a bunch of crappy confused colleagues who are filling people’s head with their nonsense gossip”
“Am sorry bro.. Have just been occupied”
“It the same old story Jimi”
The door fling open and Clara rushed in
” Sir.. Oh am sorry for banging in I didn’t know you had company”
“It’s OK Clara. ”
But Steve was already leaving
” hey Steve….. Thanks man I really appreciate. I’ll drop by at your office before leaving”
“Make sure you do”
Steve warned sternly before walking out of the office
“Oh sir is it true.. ” Clara mutters softly
“Which part that I got fired or that I resigned”
“Both” she glared with her eyes poking out
“The latter is true Clara. Am moving on”
“Oh great. That’s amazing boss congratulations, you deserve it you’ve worked so hard. Am so happy for you”
“Oh thank you Clara. It was possible because of your help thank you for being of great assistance”
“I was just doing my job. You were just the best to work with thank you”
She broke into tiny sobs and Jimi moved to place his hand on her shoulder
“Oh Clara don’t cry.”
“Am sorry boss am just so excited, I guess it’s the hormones or that am going to really miss you Mr Benson”
“Oh honey you’ll be fine” he pat her back gently
“I know am just so grateful for all the times we had together. And now that am soon due for my maternity leave I guess everything is falling in place”
“And it will fall in place. And if you are worried about your job don’t worry I’ll speak to Michael and let him know he can’t afford to lose you because you are good at what you do Clara. Whatever it maybe if you need my help you have my number anytime. Am leaving pyramid way not your life besides I want to be there on the baby’s christening ”
They laughed and Jimi gave her a cozy hug
