The hall was filled with color, sound and excitement, the hall was decorated with purple, gold and cream… The big cake with a stand mark boldly showing 30.
All guests were either dressed in the general fabric chosen for the special occasion, or in the same color.
The high and mighty graced the occasion to celebrate the anniversary of the elite couples Mr and Mrs Benson, The media and party goers were also in attendance, it is indeed the marriage anniversary of the year
People rarely make it to ten years in marriage not to talk of thirty years together. Mr and mrs Benson were exemplary couples to all the forthcoming marriage unions and Mrs Benson was glad to host an interview with her husband at her home where she gave detailed information on how to enjoy a lasting married life and not endure it
Diana sighed heavily when the car stopped at the park, of course they are really late… She smiled at Marty who was in the back with Philip.
It had been endless argument between her and Marty this afternoon. Marty didn’t want her to miss the party and she wanted Marty to go and have some fun besides Philip would be there and it would be so unfair for him to go alone …..it all came down to who will look after Abby
They finally decided to drop Abby at Mrs lawal’s place. Her daughter Fatima is Abby’s classmate and they lived in the same estate too once or twice Fatima had visited in their house so they decided to make Abby visit them instead of Nrs Uduak
Mrs Lawal had gladly accepted to look after Abby. Abby herself had been thrilled to spend time with her friend and her two brothers, she’s always so excited to leave the house
Diana stepped out of the car, and took a good look around without even entering the hall, the crowd was overflowing the hall. Everyone looked so gorgeous and expensively dressed and Diana had to look at herself again
She was wearing a silver strapless gown with slit up her knees, Jimi had gotten this dress for her saying the dress code for the party is silver gray,
She balanced on her silver 5 inch heels with her silver purse. She was wearing the simplest nude makeover. She had only agreed to this party about an hour ago and didn’t have time to prepare not that she regrets it.
Although she couldn’t tell Jimi to his face that she wouldn’t be coming but with all the preparations he was making she had to pretend to go with the flow
He wanted her here earlier so he can show her off…. In his world but she had firmly declined not even sure about showing up at at all
Marty brushed her shoulder lightly as they walked into the hall she was wearing mint green short dress and black heel sandals,
Philip was in a regular Ankara wear while Jimi who was actually the last to come out of the car was wearing a dark shade of gray senator attire, throwing his cap over his head, he looked very handsome in his native outfit
Once inside the hall, the mood changed immediately they were lots of people. The juju singer was filling the dancefloor with music as people were dancing.
Some gathered in groups as they chat while others were busy eating but the groove was on . The party seem to have kicked off with full force
Jimi was ushered to the front seat, where his parents were sitted with others at the high table
Jimi went round the table hugging and kssing them on the cheeks. His mom muttered ‘You are late’, she was dressed beautifully like a celebrate who has to stand out and she looked gorgeous she didn’t hang around the table too long because she left with another lady
Mr Benson was also beautifully dressed in agbada he smiled at his son and Diana as she moved closer to greet him
Jimi lead his guests to a table in a much reserved corner of the hall. He begun to order drinks and food for them, he left the table to welcome familiar faces.
“You OK…… “Marty asked
“Yeah am fine ” Diana smilled
“I just need to find the rest room”
“Do you need me to come with you?”
“No I’ll be fine.. “She stood from the table and walked out of the hall, just turning left someone bumped into her and it was the Esther from the restaurant and salon with another friend
“Now look who we have here”
she said drastically and Diana roared in silence
“Excuse me..”
“No sweetheart, you are not excused”
“Who’s this “her friend asked
“One of Kimi’s puppets”
“Oh the recent one”
“Am not a puppet and what do you want this time. Don’t you ever get tired of hovering around people and pestering them”
“You decided to show up after all my warnings. You desperados don’t lie…. You are a temporary fix darling too bad that’s all you will ever be to Jimi”
“I dont have time for this” she waved them off walking away but she trailed behind him
“Oh dear you s¢rewed yourself the moment you got involved with a guy like Jimi”
Diana tried to ignore him but she wouldn’t stop. This girl never learns
“Am just trying to look out for you as girl to girl”
“No one asked you for the prep talk. Can you just stop creating a scene”
“Look around Diana, these are our people you don’t belong here”
“Let’s just go Esther”. Nancy was getting uncomfortable with the way Esther was harassing her
“She’s the one leaving”
“Just forget it, don’t create a scene here you’ll be embarrassing yourself. Let it be”
“You should really listen to your friend” Diana teased
“Shut up…… Nancy are you now ashamed of me, am only trying to defend you this guy is taking what belongs to you, and you are just going to let her get away with it”
“Do you expect me to be screaming at her. You know how Jimi is, pls I came here for Simisola and mr and mrs Benson, not to ruin their ceremony.”
“You are always shying away from your problems instead of confronting it. This one is so beneath you Nancy and for her to still be sticking around after all my warnings she’s even dumber than I thought
Diana pushed closer to Esther until she was making her take steps backwards from Diana’s cowering bold moves
” I have warned you again and again to stop approaching me like this do you have problems with your brain.
I’ve also warned you never to call me names again…I will forget about the place and setting and beat you blue black. Are you high or something” Diana was backing her against the wall now
“Okay okay ……” Nancy steps in between them.
“We don’t want any trouble pls Let’s just go our separate ways. Pls we don’t have to blow this up pls….. Esther let’s go”
Nancy pulled her
” let’s just go, sorry about everything” she apologized as they moved out of the hallway
“This isn’t over…. Do you think am afraid of you, h’ll no.. I’ll come back for you ”
Esther lashed out as Nancy pulled her into the hall “… You should have let me teach that brat a lesson”
“No Esther, I don’t need you doing all these sort of things for me. Today is all about Simi’s parents and we as her friends shouldn’t go about causing havoc on a day like this, besides you were taking it too far ”
“Stop acting so cowardly around people Nancy, they’ll take advantage of you. I know but that girl is something else she has the nerve to threaten me, I should have put her in her place”
“Really! That would be totally uncalled for, it’s her life and in a way we are even helping her, trying to save her from heart break but she doesn’t want to listen, so its her problem. Why can’t you just let her be”
“Hmmm It’s Jimi’s fault actually for putting you through this, allowing you go through all this berating clashes”
“Actually I blame my stupid heart for letting someone like Jimi mess with it”
“You know I don’t like to see you in pains, I mean that’s why I do all these, to try and relieve you from this burden”
“I know and I really appreciate but sometimes you go too far and I can’t believe we almost had a fight with her out here”
“She asked for it . Who invited her”
“Who else. Jimi of course”
“Speak of the d’vil”
Jimi was approaching them searching for Diana
“Why is he coming here?”
“I don’t know… Just keep it cool”
“Hello Nancy . ” Jimi smiled ignoring Esther
“Uhm… Hi… Hi Jimi” she looked down at her red painted toes
“You look good”
“Nancy blushed and Esther cleared her throat
“Let’s go get cocktails ” Esther said
“Thanks Jimi…. ” Nancy continued as if she hadn’t heard her “.. You don’t look bad yourself”
“Thank you, Simi and my mom are responsible for making me look like someone’s father” he cracked and she burst into laughter
“We should really get going Nancy ” Esther repeated getting really upset
“Do you happen to know where my sister is I haven’t seen her since I came”
“Well ain’t you a little late being the celebrates son, lots of pictures has been taken, the mc has already gotten to the mid section of the agenda
“Don’t worry I’ll make up for it”
“I know you will…. Simi is really busy she should be with the caterers or our guests”
“Nancy you know Simi asked you to order for drinks, she’ll be expecting it”
“Oh that’s true… She’ll ki ll me”
“Finally you notice me”
“Sorry Jimi, I gat to go… I’ll tell her you are looking for her”
“Okay”
Esther stood still and bat her eyes at Jimi before Nancy stopped half way and called her
“Esther come on hurry up”
“I’m coming… ” She rushed to join her
Jimi walked out through the lobby hoping to find Diana but got entrapped with his buddies
“Hey guys…… What are you…?”
“What are we doing here…. ” Bj interrupts
” we are partying hard”
“I can see that ” their table turned out to be the busiest in the hall surrounded with hot ladies and alcohol of different kind scattered all over the table ”
“I think he means, how did we know about this party. Who invited us?” Steve added
“Oh we were invited, not by you obviously but your mom… Hey guys ” he raised his voice “. My friend’s mom invited me to this party because my friend totally forgot about me” he laughed sarcastically
“I didn’t forget about you”
“Then you must have forgotten to invite me, and Steve and Murphy probably because we weren’t important”
“It’s not that, have just been busy”
“The same old story Jimi, ain’t you tired of giving the same excuse all the time”
“Am not lying, you know about my new promotion, the grind is double now and I have to work twice as hard”
“We all work Jimi. Stop with your bIoody lies” Murphy fired back at him
“I get that you are busy, but I guess you weren’t busy to invite your geeky roomie and your tight a$s girlfriend to the anniversarydon’t gimme that because they live next to you crap… Because if you really wanted us to come and be here for you, all it takes is a bIoody phone call”
“I’m sorry guys it’s not like that”
“Then how is it”
“Oh and your new job, we didn’t deserve to know that too”
“Look guys am really sorry, I didn’t do any of these intensionally, I just got carried away. Am sorry for everything”
“Carried away by that your baby mama”
“Leave her out of this, please.”
“Why… Why are you acting trapped,, like she’s got you under her spell or something”
“It’s not like that, guys can we just move pass these”
“Move pass what, You say so but you act otherwise, no woman has ever trapped you like this before, no matter how beautiful or how good she is in bed, no one tames jimi Benson.. No one, this is a version of you that is not natural, something is definitely wrong somewhere,
so unless you figure out what it is you can’t be our friend, our Jimi Benson, the Sharp shooter, the charmer, the mother fucking heart Robber…. And be her boyfriend, it can’t work that way.
You have alot going on so you just have to let go of something or someone to rebuild something and make it reliable and solid . Instead of hopping about like a confused duckling”
“Are you asking me to chose, between Diana and you guys”
Jimi was shocked at his friend’s free request
