Jimi and his dad sat outside together playing chess
“Geez dad… I hope you are not cheating you’ve been winning since we started”
“I guess luck is on my side” mr Benson whistled
“Indeed”
“Jimi…!” He called
“Sir”
“Jimi, are you currently seeing anyone”
He had to ask, his son never stays celibate for too long
“What…….. No!!” Jimi stare at his dad awkwardly
“Why would you even say that”
“Why not”
“You know I don’t have time for that”
“I think you have all the time in the world. You always do_”
“Not anymore pops, I have a daughter and a company that consumes all my time”
“Any other reason”
“What other reason”
“You know what I’m talking about”
“Diana…. Of course she’s always going to be in my heart….”
“You still love her”
“Very much… Am afraid, it’s almost like it keeps growing everyday or maybe am just going crazy”
“Love does that to us most of the time, it makes us vulnerable, crazy, but it also makes us stronger, happier and more defined, now your head is in one place”
“My head is in alot of places dad… Besides am everything but happy. I don’t have all that I want but am not complaining. What’s That popular saying: you can’t have it all”
“You definitely cannot have it all but you can make do with what you have. Get better at it and be happy”
“That’s going to take longer than forever”
“She’s going to come back”
“I doubt that”
“Why are you so sure she won’t come back”
“I mean it’s not with certainty but for Diana to just let Abby go without looking back even though she loves Abby with every fragments of her being.
Abby is her world and for her to give that up just so she doesn’t get tangled up with me. It just means she really hates me dad. Like am the worst person to be with”
“Well then it’s up to you not to give up”
“I can’t give up on Diana, I can’t love anyone the way that I love her so much dad. More than I thought I was capable of. ”
“Then hold on to that, because trust me you might never get a chance at a love like this again”.
Jimi affirm to his dad’s words.

Jimi met his mom in her room, she was getting ready to an owanbe.
She was wearing a blue lace blouse and wrapper, she was looking gorgeous
“Wow Mom. You look stunning, where are you off to”
“Strange of you to ask. Today’s Tosin’s wedding”
“Which Tosin”
“Tosin Babalola, you played basketball together in high school”
“Ohh Toshine… Ahh you should have said Toshine I would have grab immediately”
“Well I know nothing about your silly nicknames anyway it’s his wedding today and am going out to celebrate him. I wonder why you didn’t get an invite ”
“We weren’t really friends mom, he was a slacker and a wannabe. We don’t hang that much”
“Hmmm whatever. Well that slacker is about to get married and are still wallowing over a girl who doesn’t want anything to do with you”
“Mom pls. You go to everyone’s wedding am I supposed to get hanged for that reason. How did you get an invite”
“Am close friends with Mrs Babalola, you would remember her from your graduation. She’s very energetic”
“Oh I remember. So mom I just wanted to tell you that Abby and I will be moving back to my apartment tomorrow”
“Moving as in permanently”
“Well yes mom I have my own place now we are not going to continue to camp here forever”
“You’re not camping here, this is your home. And you want to take my grandbaby from here, how do you expect to look after a six year old all by yourself Jimi. ”
“Mom relax it’s not that much of a deal. Have practically looked after her the whole time so yeah I think I can handle it”
“Don’t be ridiculous, this is not just a walk in the park, she needs attention she needs to be probably taken care of, you cannot do all that by yourself. We want to give Abby a well deserving life better than she had with her mother”
“Mom I cannot give Abby the life she had with her mother, I cannot even come close to that, and so do you and everyone else. The only person that can give her that is Diana. It is pointless trying to beat that”
“You already look down on yourself. Have you really thought this through”
“I have mom, I can’t continue to stay here with you. If need be we’ll get a nanny, Marty will be there to assist us too. Everything will be fine”
“Don’t lie, you’re just going back to that place so you can continue to tail over that girl. ”
“Yes mom, thats exactly what I intent to do.
Am not going to give up. I love her too much to just let her go besides Abby needs her mother am not going to take that away from her”.
“Fine! Do whatever you want. You always learn the hard way”
“You know maybe if you hadn’t been so rigid, you wouldn’t have chased Diana and her sister away from her when they came this wouldn’t have been so difficult right now”
“Oh so now it’s my fault, am I supposed to welcome everyone that showed up here claiming to be pregnant with your child” she snapped at him
“What do you mean everyone”.
“Dorcas wasn’t the only one Jimi. The first girl that showed up here claiming to be pregnant for you was a liar and a crook I had already fallen for it before I realized she wasn’t even pregnant. You never could keep it in your pants, it was everyone and anyone I had to live with cleaning up after you all the time but I dare not complain, you are my son and If I don’t stand by you who will.
I have always protected you and am not going to stop now. If you had learnt anything from this whole experience maybe my job over you wouldn’t be so difficult”
She sighed heavily and Jimi couldn’t believe the burden his mother had to carry just for him. He wished he hadn’t been such a snub and a smug maybe the people around him wouldn’t have to suffer so much
“Am running late for Tosin’s wedding. He maybe a slacker but at least he’s getting married”
She picked her purse and walk away
