“Hi camille, can we talk?” He requested and I immediately lapse back into consciousness.
What is he doing here? And why did he look so calm. He have got to be kidding me?!
I folded my hands on my chest, keeping a straight, I said boldly. “What do you want?”
“Can we talk? Please don’t say no”
“Wow. The great Asher saying No. I must be dreaming” I laughed dryly.
“See, camille. I know my sorry will probably not mean anything to you but honestly, i’m sorry..”
I shifted back, clearly flabbergasted. I wasn’t expecting Asher’s return to be like this. I was expecting him to come threaten me and not to plead.
What exactly is going on?
“And why should I believe you?..” I eyed him.
Asher opened his mouth to talk but Annie’s footsteps and voice stopped him.
“Who is there, camille?” She asked and her presence came into view. She had a surprised look on her face on seeing Asher.
Calmly, she said. “Oh hey there Asher. How are you doing? It been so long, I believe”
Asher gulped down nothing staring at her. “Annie….”
Annie smiled warmly. “Oh Common, don’t just stand there. Come on in”
“I can?” Asher sounded surprised and Annie nods positively.
Okay.., first of all, why is Asher here?
‘I believe he told you why already’ my subconscious said to me.
Tsk! He said he wants to talk and I sure as he.ll don’t believe that!
He is just pretending like he have always done and wants me to come back to him so he can continue maltreating him. Well, fuck him!
Secondly, why is Annie sounding so cool and fine?
Wasn’t she the one that was so angry and act like she is going to kill Asher on the spot when she sees him. What changed? Okay, am so confused right now.
Asher walks in and I gulped down nothing.
What is going on?
“Have your seat” Annie said to him closing the door behind her.
Asher nodded and sat down while I watched with my hands on my back.
Annie sat opposite him and a disturbing silence sets in. Asher looked kind of nervous and I wonder why.
“So, Asher. Camille told me you went for a business meeting. She didn’t want to be at home alone she decided to stay with me. She told me it was for a week so am really surprised you are back early”
“She didn’t tell you?” Asher asked sounding relieved.
“Tell me what?” Annie asked feigning ignorance.
“Oh never mind. So how are you doing?” Asher changed the topic.
“Just fine. And enjoying the single life of course..”
“Still the old Annie. You know I can link you up with some of my friends”
“Nice, But am not interested” Annie replied with a lopsided smile.
I don’t know why but Annie and Asher trying to act cool right now is really disturbing.
I tried signaling to Annie to stop with the act but she wasn’t even looking my way.
Great! Just great!
“So why are you back early?” Annie asked, stylishly changing the topic again.
“I…”Asher stuttered. “I..we finished early so we were dismissed. I got home and didn’t find camille so I just guessed she would be here”
“Well, you guessed right..” Annie smiled.
Facing me, Annie said. “Camille, will miss you but right now, your husband needs you back home..” Annie said.
“Annie, What the he.ll are you doing?” I decided to voice out.
“I don’t understand you” Annie arched her brows.
“Really? So you want me to go back to this mon$ter” I said and Asher looked at me with caution.
“Camille!” He said.
“What? You want to keep up with the act. Isn’t that it? You wanna know what? I told Annie everything. She knows you hit me. She knows about everything! So don’t try to pretend everything is fine between us when it is clearly not” I said with so much anger.
Asher looked at Annie questionably and she shrugged.
“She is saying the truth, isn’t it?” Annie saId.
“Camille, you can’t just go about telling everyone what is going on with us..”
“Annie isn’t just anybody. She is family.”
“If you knew about everything then why acting like you didn’t” Asher directed how question to Annie.
“Because I feel like” Annie shrugged.
“Anyways, I don’t know why you are here and honestly, I don’t care but you really need to leave”
“Am taking My wife back. Camille, I am sorry for everything. I just…I guess it was a phase. I didn’t know what I was doing. This past three days have been really rough for me. I didn’t even go to work and I took my time to think and reflect on everything and realized I was wrong. Am sorry. Am been truthful here..”
I laughed hysterically. “Wow, Asher you are really funny! So you have the gut to come here and tell me you are sorry and you really expect me to forgive you and I jump into your arm..” I was getting angry, Like really angry.
“Asher, for 10 months. You made me go through pains upon pains and you open your filthy mouth to call it a phase. Like what the he.ll?”
“And I said am sorry. I didn’t mean to hit you or anything. I just.., I don’t even know how to explain. Camille, I really love you..and I didn’t know why I did all that. I will make it up to you, I promise..”
“Okay, that’s enough..” Annie said dryly.
“Have had enough of your bullsht, Asher. You know, I had planned to personally deal with you for making camille go through what she went through but right now, I don’t even have the strength for anything. All I am asking is for you to divorce her. You both go your separate ways. End of story!” Annie saId with a tone of finality.
“You don’t decide what she wants for her, Annie.” Asher retorted.
“She isn’t deciding for me. I want a divorce, Asher.” I Told him.
“Camille, you do know we can settle this amicably right?”
“Honestly, no. A divorce is all I want right now.” I said.
“Then am sorry I can’t grant you that” Asher said, his expression changing.
“Oh really?” Annie looked at him.
“Yes” Asher nodded in affirmative.
“Then, we meet in court!”
