Chapter 14
Arabella rushed into the hospital only to see Nina waiting for her by the entrance.
“What took you so long?” Nina asked.
“I had to stop at a restaurant to get change. I couldn’t come back looking like Ara”She replied as they both head to the elevator.
“You going to some random restaurant to change is risky. What if people recognise you. You know you are quite popular”Nina said
“Don’t worry. Am always careful not to get recognise by anyone. As long as people don’t recognise me. I will be fine”She replied.
“I hope so too and Gerald arrived some few minutes ago”Nina told her.
“Why are you just telling me that now!”Arabella yelled as the elevator door open.
“You should go back now. I will handle the rest”Arabella said to Nina as she dashed out of the Elevator.
“Your arm sling!”Nina reminded her and she ran back to get the sling before slipping to the rest room where she put on the hospital uniform before heading to her ward.
Taking a deep breath and fixing a smile on her face. She opened the door and walk in.
“What do you mean by you can’t find her? Do I have to involve the police in this?”Gerald asked the security guards and doctors along with nurses who stood taking in his anger.
“We have searched everywhere for her but she’s no where to be found “One of the security guard replied.
“I left her right here after having the check up but she…….she disappeared”The confused nurse who had been In charge of her said looking scared.
“Find her! That’s an order. If you all don’t want to lose your jobs. Just look for her!”Gerald yelled lashing out his anger.
For a moment Arabella was scared to make her presence known. Never had she seen Gerald this angry but she had to do something before the poor staff ends up suffering for her doing.
“Am right here”She said and immediately all eyes were turned on her.
On seeing her Gerald walked the distance that separate them to hug her. Startling her and surprising the whole staff.
She pulled away from him while her eyes asked him questions her mouth couldn’t utter.
“I was at the roof top. Am sorry if I got everyone worried”She gave them all her excuse.
“No one thought to check the roof top?”Gerald enquired and they all nodded in reply.
“Get back to work! Only her personal doctor and nurse should stay back “Gerald said to them as they all left the ward.
The doctor checked her arm and after settling her back in bed. They left the room leaving her alone with Gerald.
The two were quiet for a while and feeling choked by the atmosphere around her. She decided to break the silence.
“You must have been worried about me”She said laughing a little.
“I wasn’t worried about you “He replied and she looked up at him.
“Then why did you…..”she paused using her uninjured hand to demonstrate what he had done earlier.
“I was worried for myself””He stated bluntly.
“I don’t get you”
“You are the first Nanny Fiona have ever apologised to after causing trouble. I can tell that she has accept you into her life but when you disappeared.
I thought you left and that I was back to square one. The hassle of getting a nanny got me worried. So don’t get the wrong idea”He explained coldly.
She must have been a fool for thinking that he was worried about her. She thought as she cursed him silently.
“You don’t have to worry. I won’t ever leave. You can take my word for it”She said as she tried to put the pillow down so she could sleep.
He moved towards her and helped her with the pillow. He was too close to her and that made her feel weird.
“I can do it myself”She said moving away from him.
“And get a chance to hurt your arm more. No way”He stated as he put the pillow down and also helped her to lie on it.
“I cant believe that you own this hospital too. If I hadn’t seen the way you were talking to the staff. I wouldn’t have believe it” She said starring at him.
“This hospital is just part of my many asset.”He replied softly.
“Are you bragging about it?”she asked smiling up at him.
“Am not. Just telling you so you won’t be surprise when you get to see another asset of mine”He replied.
“You are still bragging to me”She said softly.
“Think whatever you want”He said as he turned to leave when he stopped starring at her weirdly.
“What? Is something on my face?”She asked when he moved close to her bed side to look at her properly.
“You have a mascara smudge on your face. That’s odd. There isn’t a make up kit in the hospital”He said and she hit herself in her mind.
Why didn’t she clean off the make up properly? Didn’t Nina notice it? She thought as she thought of an excuse .
“I don’t think so. I don’t wear make up “She replied as she wipe the spot.
“I own a cosmetic company. Do you think I don’t know anything about it? This smudge is definitely a mascara “He replied.
“It isn’t. Just where would I get a make up kit here. You said so yourself sir”She said firmly that Gerald had to back off.
“If you say so then. I have things to do. They might let you go tomorrow. The chauffeur will come get you”He said and with that he left her ward.
Arabella could finally breathe peacefully when he left. Her lies wouldn’t be the end of her. She thought as she finally gave into sleep. It’s been an exhausting day after all.
