HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 51 – 60

Chapter 53

Author: RACHEAL DENNIS.

Weeks Later – Baldwin’s Mansion, LA

It has been three weeks since Tasha cleared Duncan’s name, and she still hasn’t left the hospital, but according to her post on her Instagram account this morning, she’s leaving the hospital today.

It has also been three weeks since Jamal’s de.ath, but Duncan and I are yet to tell Mariah about it, and she hasn’t stopped asking us about her husband’s whereabouts.

Left for me I would have inform her about her husband’s de.ath earlier, and let her grief over him and maybe she can move on quicker.

But Duncan’s scared of what her reaction would be, hence he’s been concocting different excuses just to stall her. Although, I’m having a feeling Mariah’s already having a hunch that her husband’s no more.

“Hey, Rachel, over here” little Troy’s voice (Mariah’s youngest son) snapped me back to reality.

He desperately waved his hands at me, as he impatiently bounced up and down.

“Pass the ball” he shouted.

I frowned slightly as I stared at him and opened my hands in confusion, he quickly pointed at something underneath my foot, but it was already snatched from me before I could understand what’s actually going on.

“Holy cow!” Jacob exclaimed loudly and threw me a glare. “We’re gonna lose because of you” he complained.

And that’s when I remembered what we were doing, we’re currently at our spacious backyard playing football, and with the way things are looking, my team’s losing bad.

Mariah, Troy, Jacob and I are teammates, (Troy and Jacob are twins), Jacob’s our team’s captain.

While Duncan, Fatima, Lucas and Jericho are teammates which is so unfair, because everyone in their team is a professional, but my teammates and I are all amateurs -or let’s just say I’m the amateur here.

“What were you thinking, Rachel? Get your head back in the game!” Jacob barked at me.

I mentally rolled my eyeballs.

“Got it, captain” I replied.

Then I heard someone laughing at me, I turned around and saw it’s Fatima.

“Quit laughing!” I snapped at her.

“Why don’t you retire, and leave the game for professionals” she gestured at her teammates.

I narrowed my eyes and bite my lower lip in anger as I cooked up some ev’l plan, it seems like cheating is the only way my teammates and I can win this match.

“I’ll let you know y’all are no professionals!” I told her challengingly.

She simply raised an eyebrow at me, then exchanged looks with Duncan who in turn shook his head, and chuckled mockingly.

Are they under rating me?!

“Let’s play!” I roared.

Everyone stared at me as if I’ve lost my mind, even my teammates were surprised to see this competitive side of me.

“Uh.. Rachel, are we safe?” Mariah whispered in my ear.

“Yeah!” I shouted. “Let’s show them what we’ve got!” and just like that the match continued.

Duncan’s team’s in control of the ball, they’d dribble past everyone in my and score magnificent goals.

My team was just like tour guides, because all we could do was run alongside them until they’d score another goal -though, Troy and Jacob were trying their best, but it still wasn’t enough.

The first half is coming to an end soon, Duncan’s team has scored seven goals, but my team managed to score only one goal which was also achieved from Troy and Jacob’s efforts.

Seeing that we have no other choice, I resorted to the only way out.

I waited until Duncan’s in control of the ball, I ran alongside him and tried to snatch the ball from him (just to make sure he’d see me), then I fell and let out a pretentious cry, as if I just twisted my ankle.

Duncan stopped the game immediately he heard my voice and rushed to me, he crouched down, took my supposed injured ankle and started inspecting it.

Everyone’s gathered around in matter of seconds, as they were all worried about me. Well, sorry guys, but this is my chance and I’m not gonna let it slide -hehehe.

I pvshed Duncan off me, making him fall on his bvm, and raced towards the ball. I could feel their eyes on me, I could even imagine their surprised faces at the moment, but I didn’t stop or turn to take a look.

My legs continued pushing the ball forward until I made it to Duncan’s team’s goalpost, I gave the ball a hard kick and it rolled into their goal.

“GOAL!” I shouted in jubilation, and I couldn’t help but jump for joy.

This is the first time I’ve scored a goal since we started this match, I can’t explain the overflowing joy and fulfilment I’m feeling right now.

Now I understand why those footballers always do a happy dance after scoring a goal, it give an amazing and unexplainable feeling.

“You tricked us” Fatima and Lucas shouted at once.

I winked at them.

“All is fair in love and war” I replied with a satisfied smirk.

Right at that moment, I saw the ball coming back towards me in a dangerous speed, I frowned feeling so confused as I wondered why the ball’s coming back to me.

Then I saw Jericho standing near their goalpost, with his hands over his mouth and his eyes widened in fear.

I, on the other hand, didn’t know what to do, I couldn’t move away or even try to dodge the ball, and all I could do was just stand still and stare at it with my mouth open.

“Rachel, duck!” Duncan shouted, when he saw what’s happening.

He started running towards me, but unfortunately, the ball already got to me before he did, and it came right at my stomach.

A squeal of pain left my mouth as I fell to the ground, and wrapped my arms around my stomach when pain shot through my waist. I held my lower lip between my teeth, and tried to hold back my cry.

“Fk, my heartbeat, are you ok?” Duncan asked worriedly when he got to me.

His eyes were frantically searching my body for any physical injuries, which there wasn’t.

I felt a warm liquid rushing down my legs, fear gripped me at once as a very h®rrifying thought crossed my mind; the thought of losing my baby.

I shook my head continuously in denial, and I couldn’t hold back my cry anymore.
Everyone has surrounded me again by now, with worry and concern on everyone’s face.

“Quick, quick, my baby, I’m losing my baby” I shouted, gripping tight on Duncan’s arms.

“Get the car ready, Lucas!” Duncan shouted as he quickly swooped me in his arms.

I peeked down to check if I’m bI.eeding heavily, just to realize there wasn’t no blood, but I peed myself instead, and my cheeks flamed up immediately in embarrassment.

“Duncan, wait” Mariah rushed in front of Duncan, she raised an eyebrow at me. “You said you’re losing your baby?” she asked.

“Uh… ” I guess she’s the only one who’s noticed I peed myself, since they’re all still staring at me with concern.

I tried to signal her not to say anything, but she’s just pretending like she wasn’t seeing my signals.

“Why aren’t there any bI.ood since you’re losing your baby?” she asked, her arms folded on her chest.

My eyes looked around, everyone’s giving me a questioning look. I sighed.

“Fine, I think I just peed myself” I muttered, and quickly hide my face in Duncan’s chest.

Everyone fell into fits of laughter, making me shiver in shame and I wished I knew magic, so I can make myself vanish from there.

“Like seriously, Rachel, you peed yourself?” Fatima asked.

I grabbed Duncan’s shirt tighter, indirectly telling him to get me outta here and fortunately he understood me.

“Alright, alright, I guess my son’s pee sprang out of his Mama” he said.

“Of course, of course” they agreed with mockery dripping off their words.

“Sir” Lucas interrupted them.

“Hm” Duncan hummed, but he didn’t stop and continued walking away from the backyard.

“Mr Ferrari’s PA just called, he said Mr Ferrari’s ready to see you and he sent an address” Lucas said, then showed Duncan something in his phone.

“Good. Get the car ready, I’ll be with you in five minutes” he said.

“Alright, sir”

Lucas glanced at me once more, and laughed as he rushed off which made me blush more in embarrassment.

“Come on, let’s get you freshen up” Duncan said.

He’s trying not to show it, but I can see he’s biting his inner cheek to stop him from laughing -my husband’s so sweet, he’s saving my last piece of dignity.
