HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Chapter 62

RACHEL’S pov.

Ding-dong!

My doorbell rang for the uncountable time, but I still didn’t bother to get up. I reached for my pillow and dumped it over my head, then continued sleeping.

But it didn’t take long before my sleep was rudely interrupted, my eyes snapped open when my blanket was ripped off me, and my legs were exposed to the cold breeze blowing in through my opened window, I guess I forgot to shut it last night -again.

“Give it back” I grumbled sleepily.

“Give it back? Have you forgotten you have a doctor’s appointment today?” Asher asked.

“Doctor’s appointment?” I asked him back as I released a yawn.

“Yes, your antenatal”

He emphasized on the word ‘antenatal’, which snatched every pinch of sleepiness away from me, and I jumped out of bed and almost missed my step, but Asher was quick to grab my arms and help me regain my balance.

My eyes zeroed on my alarm clock sitting on the bedside table, and a gasp left my mouth.

“It’s already 10:49am, why didn’t you wake me up earlier?” I asked, indirectly pushing the blame to him as though it’s his responsibility to wake me up.

“Well, I did give your phone one thousand missed calls” he said, then rolled his eyeballs -but he was exaggerating about giving me a thousand missed calls.

I hurried wore my flip-flops, then dashed towards the bathroom and shut the door in a bang to start with my morning routine.

“Easy, you’re six months gone and we don’t want any complications, yeah?” I heard Asher remind me, but I didn’t respond to him.

Forty-five Minutes Later

“Here you go, milady” Asher said, in a very decent British accent as he opened the passenger door, of his car for me.

“Thank you kind sir” I replied in a British accent too, but mine wasn’t as fluent as his.

I got in the car, he helped me with my seatbelt since my baby’s bump is kinda acting like a barrier.
Then he rounded the car and got into the driver’s seat.

“Are you sure you don’t wanna stop at McDonald’s?” he asked.

“Nope, I’m good” I answered.

“But you know skipping meals, especially breakfast isn’t healthy for anyone, then coupled with your condition” his eyes flicked towards my stomach.

“I’m fine, Asher” I assured him. “I don’t wanna eat now because I’m feeling nauseous, I’m scared I’m gonna puke after eating, and you know hard it is to make me stop once I start puking”

He cringed in disgust at my explanation, and didn’t push the topic. He started the car and drove into the main road, I couldn’t help but laughed at his expression.

I rested my head against the window, and watched the tall buildings as we drove by. I suddenly remembered the first month I came to this city, I wouldn’t have survive or come this far if it wasn’t for Asher.

HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Flashback -Four Months Ago

“Rachel?” Mike’s voice came up.

“I need your help, and it’s urgent”

He chuckled lightly.

“Uh…urgent help? In case you forget, I’m currently outside the country as we speak” he said.

“I know, but…” I sniffled.

“You’re crying” he stated. “What’s wrong? Did something happen to your husband?”

I shook my head, but remembered he can’t see me.

“I’m tired, Mike” I cried.

“Tired? What’s going on?”

I guess I’m scaring him with the way I’m crying, because there’s worry and great concern in his voice.

“Duncan isn’t being honest with me at all, I.. I saw him with… ” I couldn’t speak, because saying it hurts me even more.

“What did he do?” he urged me to speak.

I sobbed for a few seconds, before gathering enough courage to say the words.

“I caught him in bed with Tasha Wood”

“What?!”

“Hm, and he’s lying about it”

“That’s a ba.rbaric act” he growled angrily.

“I’m ready, I’m ready to divorce and leave him”

There’s a brief silence from his side, then I heard shuffling sound as if he’s walking.

“No, you can’t divorce him”

I frowned.

“Why can’t I?” I asked.

“I don’t think divorce is really want you need, you’d have divorced him when he came back to apologize… ”

“I was being a fool, can’t you see that?”

He stayed silent for a moment.

“How about you take a break, go on a vacation and give your relationship some time to recuperate”

I shook my head in disagreement.

“I don’t need a break, I just wanna disappear from his life forever, and I need you to do just one thing for me”

“What is it?”

“Fake an identity for me”

“What?! That’s illegal?!” he exclaimed.

I raised my brows.

“Don’t be so ethical with me, Mike”

“Rachel, calm down and…”

“It’s either you help me fake an identity, or I’ll commit $ui¢ide and write a note that my lawyer, who is Mike Coleman forced me into committing su!¢ide, and… ”

“Fine!” he interrupted me. “I don’t do illegal jobs, but I know someone who does”

“Who?”

“My twin, Asher” he said.

I furrowed my eyebrows, yeah, why didn’t I think of his twin brother earlier?

“I’ll tell him to help you, I’ll forward your info to him and his address to you, you both can sort yourselves out”

“Thank you, you’ve just saved a life”

He scoffed, and I’m sure he did an eye roll too.

“I just destroyed a life too” he said.

I know he’s referring to Duncan, but I don’t care.

“Right, keep this a secret, no one can know my whereabout”

“Sure” he said, then I hanged up, and fell on my bed as I tried my best to refrain my tears from falling down.

End of flashback

And that’s how I met Asher, and he’s been there for me all these while.

Many people will say I’m ¢ruel, but I don’t give a fk because I was gonna lose my sanity, and fall into depression had I stayed with Duncan.

This is best for us, I’ll get my sanity back and he’ll get his shts back together.

“Is Miss Zhou even listening to me?” Asher called me by my fake maiden name.

Yeah, he faked a Chinese identify for me, and I don’t understand why, because I obviously don’t look like a Chinese woman.

“Rachel?” he called me again.

“What?!” I snapped, but playfully.

“I said your therapist called me”

“Oh”

“Yeah, she said she called you numerous times but you ignored her calls” he glanced at me, and quickly moved his eyes back to the road. “Are you trying to skip another session today?” he asked.

I know he’s narrowing his eyes even though I’m not looking his way, because he does it almost everytime he’s trying to be strict with me.

“Why do I have to go to my antenatal, and therapy session the same day? Why can’t I have this session tomorrow?” I grumbled referring to the therapy session.

“That’s what you get for skipping yesterday’s session, now quit grumbling and… ” he was cut off by his phone’s ringtone.

He reached for his phone and checked the caller’s ID, before answering it, then I tuned him out.

I reached for my phone to check the time, I turned it on and my wallpaper glued my eyes to the screen.

My heart ached as I stared at my wallpaper, it’s been four months since I left but I still don’t feel like changing my wallpaper yet -why?

HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

THIRD PERSON’S pov.

Westin Bonaventure Hotel And Suites – presidential suite

Mr Baldwin laughed as a lady danced on his laps, she grabbed his tie and rested her forehead against her, while staring in his eyes.

She soon let go of his tie, pushed him back on the sofa and threw her head back, puffed out her big bbs and slowly moved her shoulders to the rhythm of the music.

Mr Baldwin inhaled a large amount of smoke from his cigar, and slowly puffed them out on the lady’s face as she lowered her body, and leaned on him.

She se..ductively traced his lips with her forefinger, then tried to bring her lips closer to his, but he placed a finger on his lips and shook his head at her.

“No kssing, darling, I’m a married man” he smirked as he showed her his ring finger, his wedding ring glimmered to prove his words.

“Oh”

“Fk yeah, just continue dancing” he held her right arm, and rubbed his stubble beard on it. “I love how flexibility sway your body to the music” he complimented her, and she giggled.

Just then the door open, and Lucas walked in with an envelope in his hands, but Mr Baldwin didn’t spare him a glance.

“Sir, I have something to report”

“Out” Mr Baldwin ordered him, still not sparing him a glance.

“It’s urgent, sir”

“Can’t you see I’m very busy?!” he growled.

Lucas glared at the lady as she does a dirty lap dance, he clenched his jaw and gripped the envelope tighter as if he’s refraining himself from st.raggIing the lady.

“I can see you’re busy, sir, but you must see this or you’ll regret not seeing it earlier”

Mr Baldwin narrowed his eyes angrily, he doesn’t seem to like Lucas’s tune.

“This better be important, Lucas, or I’ll have your head” he gritted out, but didn’t turn away from the girl.

“Sir, it’s about your wife”

Mr Baldwin suddenly regain consciousness as if he was in a coma, he pushed the girl off him immediately Lucas said those words, and he sprang up at once and his eyes caught the photos Lucas was stretching out to him.

He snatched them, and stared at them with shaky hands.

“Where did these photos come from?” he asked.

“Our men sent them, they spotted Mrs Baldwin shopping at a mall in New Orleans” Lucas reported.

“New Orleans?!”

“Yes, sir, and from the information they’ve gathered, it seems like she’s been staying in New Orleans for four months now”

“What?! You mean my wife’s been in the state of Louisiana all these while?!”

“Yes, sir”

Mr Baldwin frowned, he wondered why they couldn’t find her since she was still in America, but that isn’t important to him anymore.

“Quick, get my jet ready, we’re going to New Orleans right away”

“Yes, sir” then Lucas left in a hurry.

Mr Baldwin grinned as he stared at the photos, he’s not sure if he’ll truly see her in New Orleans, but he couldn’t help smiling and feeling happy at the little glimmer of hope he’s found.

“Wait for me, I’m coming to get you back, My. Heartbeat” then he kssed the photos.
