HIDDEN WIFE : CHAPTER 61 – 70

Chapter 68

Duncan leaned down, with his hands placed on both sides on the sofa and caging me there. He looked straight in my eyes for a moment, and flicked his eyes towards my lips, which made me subconsciously bite my lower lip.

“Listen, and listen good, my heartbeat”

My heart strangely flustered when he called me his heartbeat, and I bite my inner cheek to stop myself from smiling.

Don’t tell me I’ve been missing hearing him call me his heartbeat.

“I am your husband, and I’ll continue to being your husband until the end of the world!”

“You are not…. ”

“Open up, you son of a bçh!” Asher shouted from outside as he banged on the door.

I pvshed Duncan off me with the little strength I have left, and got up.

“Just leave, I’ll be there” I said, waving the card he gave me in front of him.

He nodded, but quickly shook his head when his eyes trailed my body again.

“What now?” I grumbled tiredly.

“I’m not leaving into you wear some proper clothes!” he said with finality in his voice.

I sighed deeply, then snatched my robe from the table and wore it.

“How about this?”

He stared at me for a moment, then nodded in satisfaction.

“Don’t keep me waiting” he said.

“You’re making it sound like a date”

“It is”

“It’s not”

“It is”

“It’s not!”

“It is!”

“I said it’s not!” I said, with my hands on my waist as I stared at him daringly.

I’m sure I must be looking like a hen, who’s protecting her chicks from a hawk.

“Fine!” he agreed reluctantly.

He eyed my outfit for a while, then headed towards the door and I quickly followed behind him.
He pushed the door open, and Asher rushed in.

“Rachel, are you ok? Did he hurt you?” he asked.

Why not worry about yourself?

“I’m fine” I answered him.

He threw Duncan a glare, but I saw him flinched back slightly when Duncan glared back at him -or maybe my eyes deceived me.

“Remember to get ready in time” Duncan said, and headed towards his car that was parked a few meters away.

“I swear, I’ll k!ll him the next time he’s gonna come here!” Asher growled lowly, when Duncan’s out of sight.

I scoffed.

“Don’t even think of doing that, because Duncan isn’t someone you’d wanna mess with”

“But…”

“Let’s get your wounds treated first” I said and led him inside.

THIRD PERSON’S pov.

“What happened to your face, Mr Baldwin?” Lucas asked with a frown, but quickly exchanged knowing looks with Fatima, and they stifled a laugh.

They had both seen Mr Baldwin f!ghting with Asher earlier, and they knew he sustained these bruises on his face from the f!ght.

They would have intervened and put Asher in his place without Mr Baldwin lifting a finger, but they didn’t because Mr Baldwin gave them strict warning not to get involved, no matter what happens.

“Sir?” Fatima called Mr Baldwin’s attention.

“Arrange one of our men to act like a cab driver, let him come back later and pick up my wife”

“Yes, sir” Lucas replied.

Mr Baldwin turned his gaze back to Asher’s house, he balled his fists and glared maliciously at the closed door.

“And that Asher guy, I wanna know every single thing about him, including the irrelevant things!”

“Yes, sir”

Lucas got the door ready, Mr Baldwin glared at the door a few seconds, before sliding into the backseat.

Fatima and Lucas got into the passenger’ and driver’s seat respectively, then Lucas started the car and they drove off.

RACHEL’S pov.

“Aww!” Asher hissed in pain, as I dabbed the small cut at the corner of his lower lip with a disinfectant cotton bud.

“Sorry” I apologized quickly, but didn’t stop dabbing the wound.

“He’s lucky I wasn’t in my f!ghting mode”

“F!ghting mode? Really?”

“Yeah, I would have crushed his bones and send him six feet under!” he growled.

Well, I didn’t know there’s a f!ghting mode. I bite my inner cheek to hold back my laughter.

“Asher, you shouldn’t have provoked Duncan into a f!ght.. ”

He frowned at my words.

“What? You’re taking sides with him now?” he asked, sounding a little bit offended and jealous?

“I’m not taking sides with him, it’s just… ” I sighed. “Duncan was being lenient with you earlier, I believe he’d have sent you into a state of coma if I wasn’t there… ”

“Rachel” he cut me off. “What are you trying to say?”

I pulled away from him since I was done treating his wound, then I sat on the table and faced him.

“Asher, you don’t know where or how Duncan and I started” I paused briefly. “So, I’d really appreciate if you stay out of our business” I said very calmly, making sure I wasn’t sounding rude.

“What? Are you saying this because you’re thinking of going back to him?!” he exclaimed.

I rolled my eyeballs at his overreaction.

“He’s still my lawfully wedded husband, at least, until, he agrees to sign the divorce papers”

He stared at me with an unknown expression, when I referred to Duncan as my lawfully wedded husband.

“There are a lot of unsolved arguments between Duncan and I, there are a lot of misunderstanding that we need to sort out, and I don’t want anyone to get hurt in the process”

“But I…”

“Asher, I’m very sorry for Duncan’s rudeness” I nodded at his wounded lips. “And I’m very thankful to you for being there for me, but… I must have this talk with Duncan”

He stared at me for a moment, then got up and headed towards his room.
I simply watched him until he entered his room, then I sighed and headed towards my room too.
