Chapter 83

Author: RACHEAL DENNIS.

THIRD PERSON’S pov.

Days Later

Mr Baldwin’s thumb caressed his unconscious wife’s cheek, he stared blankly at her face, and he frowned deeply as he wasn’t getting no reaction from her.

“My heartbeat” he called her in a cracked voice. “When are you gonna wake up?” he asked, even though he knew she wasn’t gonna respond to him.

He leaned forward and placed a lingering kss on her forehead.

“I miss you” he rested his head on her chest, using her bbs as his pillow. “I miss you nagging me, I miss you getting angry at me for every slight mistake, I miss you laughing at my siIIy jokes and mispronounced words, I miss holding you in my arms on our bed”

He paused and sniffled as though he’s trying to hold back his tears -the veins on his neck are showing by now.

“Please wake up let’s go home, please wake up for me” he couldn’t hold back anymore, he let his tears flowed down as he threw his arms around his wife, and hugged her tight.

“I promise I’ll never do anything to get you angry, I promise I’ll be the best husband and father to you and our son from now onwards, I promise I’ll do anything for you, anything you want me to do, I promise…” he trailed off as if he’s ran out of promises.

Meanwhile nanny Pamela, Fatima and Lucas stood by the door, they were watching as he (Mr Baldwin) was busy pouring his heart out to his unconscious wife.

Nanny Pamela sighed and shook her head as she also blinked her eyes a few times, to hold back her tears.

It’s been two days already since doctor Luke sedated her, but she haven’t shown any signs of waking up soon, and her breath hasn’t been stable since then.

“Nanny, what are we gonna do with Mr Baldwin?” Fatima asked. “He haven’t eaten, or even taken his bath since we brought his wife here” she added, nodding towards Mr Baldwin’s clothes.

“Yeah, he looks like a real madman now” Lucas chipped in.

Nanny Pamela stared at Mr Baldwin for a short while, thinking of how to convince him to go home and freshen up, because they’ve tried everything within their power to make him go home, but he wouldn’t listen to them.

Then she faced Fatima at once, as if she’s just got the perfect idea.

“Do you have a mirror?” she asked.

“A mirror?” Fatima asked, while wondering what she (nanny Pamela) wanna do with a mirror.

“Yes, in your bag?”

“Y-yeah” Fatima answered unsurely.

“Give it to me”

Fatima nodded. She reached for her bag, and pulled out a small mirror, then handed it to nanny Pamela.

Nanny Pamela took a deep breath, before approaching Mr Baldwin, she stopped by his side and handed the mirror to him, but he simply stared at it blankly without collecting it from her.

“Duncan, here” she shoved the mirror in his right hand. “Check out yourself and tell me how you look” she said.

But Mr Baldwin didn’t respond or react to her words, like he didn’t even hear a word of all she’s been saying.

“Duncan, it’s high time you go home to eat and freshen up, you can’t keep on going like this” she said.

“No” he replied.

“No? Are you even seeing yourself right now?”

Mr Baldwin stayed silent.

“You look like you’re in mourning!”

This statement infuriated him, he raised his head and threw nanny Pamela a mvrderous look, he felt a strong urge to wrap his hands around her ne¢k, and $t.rangle her to de.ath for saying those inauspicious words, but he held himself since she’s practically his mother at the moment.

“Rachel might wake up at any time, what do you expect her to see when she wakes up? Her husband that’s totally covered in bI.ood, and smelling like a ur!ne that’s been stored for five days?”

He furrowed his eyebrows immediately nanny Pamela said that, he threw her an offended glare which she returned with a stern glare, as though she’s glaring at a disobedient child, which made Mr Baldwin turned away from her and faced his wife.

“You know your wife’s a neat freak, do you think she’ll embrace and kss you when she sees you in this…” she trailed off not knowing what to say.

RACHEL’S pov.

“You know your wife’s a neat freak, do you think she’ll embrace you and kiss you when she sees you in this…”

Isn’t that nanny Pamela’s voice? Who is she taking to? Duncan? It must be him, because I heard him begging me to wake up moments ago.

Why can I hear voices but can’t seem to open my eyes?

I tried to open my eyes again, for the one thousandth time, but still couldn’t as they remained shut as though someone’s sealed them with a glue.

Then I fell someone hold my hands, that familiar warmth engulfed me and I knew at once that it’s Duncan -my husband.

“Wake up, my heartbeat, wake up let’s go home” he pleaded once again, and sniffled.

Is he crying again?

I really wanna see how my husband looks with tears on his face, I’m sure he’s gonna be looking so funny right now, no, no, I must see how he looks like, I must wake up and have a good laugh.

I mentally took a very deep breath, and mustered up all my strength, then I forcibly snapped my eyes open, but instantly shut them at once as my eyes were stabbed by the sudden brightness that welcomed me.

“Funk!” I hissed as I squeezed my eyes. “Who funking turned on the lights!” I grumbled, as though the lights weren’t turn on before I open my eyes.

I heard gasps around me, but didn’t bother opening my eyes to check out the people around me, because I’m scared my eyes still haven’t adapt to the brightness yet.

“My heartbeat?” I heard Duncan’s voice.

“Yeah?” I answered, though my eyes were still closed.

A short gasp escaped my mouth, and my brows were furrowed instantly as I was suddenly engulfed in a very tight hug -the hug was so tight that I even felt myself struggling to get enough air through air my lungs.

I slowly opened my eyes, and was surprised to see everyone surrounding me, ok, I kinda exaggerated a little bit because it was just nanny Pamela, Fatima and Lucas.

“You’re awake!” they all breathe out simultaneously, but Fatima and Nanny Pamela still had worried expression on.

They all looked very disheveled, and tired, with dark circles under their eyes.

“My heartbeat” Duncan whispered in my ear.

He hugged me tighter, and I couldn’t help but wonder if his intention was to squeeze me into his body.

“My heartbeat” he whispered again, while taking deep breaths as though he can finally breath -now I understand why he calls me his heartbeat, turns out I’m truly his heartbeat.

“Uh, D-duncan” I called his name in a stutter, but coughed lightly to clear my throat. “Duncan, I can’t breathe”

I tapped his back to let go, but he shook his head and hugged me even tighter.

“No” he disagreed.

“But.. I..”

“I’m afraid you’ll fall asleep again if I let go” he said.

Oh, poor baby. Did I really scare him that much?

“Please don’t fall asleep again, don’t fall asleep on me” he sobbed.

I looked at nanny Pamela and Fatima for help, but they pretended as though they weren’t seeing me.
I sighed, and rolled my eyeballs.

“I’ll fall asleep again if you don’t let go” I said.

“No” he tightened his arms around me again.

I coughed.

“I..” coughed. “I really can’t breathe now” I gritted out, and he released me at once.

He held my shoulders, and started blowing air on my face as if doing that will help me breathe well.

He has a worried and scared expression on while he was doing that, and his appearance is way funnier than the others -I’ll say funny and scary at the same time.

His hair is all over the place, like he’s been running his fingers through them and constantly pulling them. There are bags under his eyes, his face is wet with a mixture of sweat and tears, even his eyes are red and puffy from all the crying he’s been doing, and he looked way thinner -hasn’t he been eating?

Then let’s talk about his clothes, are those dried bIood? And why do I feel like a weird smell is coming from him?

OMG, what exactly happened to this guy?

“My heartbeat, are you ok? Did I hurt you? Do you feel like fainting? Should I get the doctor right now?” he asked in one breath.

“I’m fine, but…” he raised an eyebrow. “.. you don’t look so well” I said.

His ears grew red, but he didn’t reply me and faced Fatima instead.

“Quick, get that doctor here!” he ordered her.

I frowned because I don’t like his commanding tone, even though Fatima’s his employee, she’s still my friend too, and he shouldn’t command my friend.

“Yes, sir” Fatima replied and rushed out.

He turned back to me with a smile.

“Is there something you need? Like, food or water?” he asked.

My throat suddenly felt dry immediately he said that, or maybe that’s when I realized I need water.

“Water, please” I told him.

He nodded and rushed towards the small table that was a few steps away from my bed, he quickly poured some water in a glass and hurried back to me.

“Here, I’ll help you” he said, and brought the glass closer to my mouth.

I took a few gulps before moving my mouth away, and signaled him that I’m satisfied.

“Thank you”

“No, thank you” he replied and grinned widely.

It’s very obvious that he’s excited, but just doesn’t know how to express his excitement, even nanny Pamela and Lucas had relieved smile on their faces, which made me wonder -how much of a tension did I put on them? Or was I in coma for months? Then…what about my baby?

“What date it is today?” I blurted out.

“September 17th” Duncan answered.

“What year are we in?” I asked again.
