Chapter 57 (Answers)

GOLDEN HIGH SCHOOL*

“So that was what happened.” Asha came to a conclusion. She just told Otto about the abduction of Tara yesterday and he’s perplexed.

“Wow, so Leo actually saved your daughter.” He said, unable to believe his ears.

“Yes he did, he was truly a God sent.”

“Yes he was.” Otto said with a smile and there was silence.

After a few minutes Asha broke the silence. She stared intently at him and he narrowed his eyes at her, trying to ask her what was wrong.

“So tell me, who was your date to the prom?” she asked.

Otto laughed nervously as he itched the back of his neck.

“It was Allison.” he said and Asha slapped his arm, while he winced playfully.

“I knew it!,” She said as she laughed hard. “You guys are perfect for each other…so tell me what happened.” she said with a wink.

“Nothing serious really happened, we just danced and spent a few minutes with each other then we all left for our various homes.” he explained with a shrug.

Asha gasped inwardly and expressed her shocked expression outwardly by putting a hand on her mouth.

“What?” Otto asked.

“You guys didn’t even kss?” She asked and immediately Otto’s ear turned red, he was blushing so hard and Asha could tell. He bit his bottom lips hard to prevent him from smiling.

“Look who’s blushing.” Asha pointed at him while laughing.

“Just stop, it’s embarrassing.” he said as he also laughed.

QUIN’S ELEMENTARY SCHOOL*

Asha quickly alighted from the taxi and paid the driver off.

She clutched tightly on her handbag like it’s soon going to get snatched by a thief. She took a deep breath before going into the school.

There were things she needed to find out about, she needed some answers to her unending questions.

She had to leave early, while Tara and Josh were still asleep, so she would return home quickly.

“Asha,” Vivian called and she stopped right on her track. She smiled when she saw Vivian coming towards her.

“Good morning Vivian.” Asha greeted with a smile and Vivian smiled back.

Vivian itched the back of her head nervously and Asha could tell she wanted to say something.

“Is there something wrong?” Asha asked as she narrowed her eyes at her.

“Nothing is wrong, I just wanted to ask. When is Tara going to resume school?” She asked and Asha let out a smile and held her shoulders firmly.

“Tara will resume soon ok?You don’t need to worry.”

“Thank you Asha, I understand. So what are you doing here?” She asked, looking around.

“I came by to see someone, do you perhaps know where the Janitress is right now?”

“You mean that old lady who’s a cleaner?” Vivian asked reluctantly.

Asha rolled her eyes and shook her head sideways. “Of course, but she isn’t that old, work and stress made her that way.” She said,

Vivian shrugged, “Whatever, You are right though…” She trailed on her words as she stared at her wrist watch. “I need to get back to class now, catch up with you later.” She said and ran off.

“Wait!” Asha yelled and she stopped right on her track. “Where can I find her?” Asha asked.

“Just go to the janitor’s room, you will find her there!” Vivian yelled and ran off.

“Thanks V,” she said, even though Vivian couldn’t hear her.

After a while of walking round the school, Asha found the Janitor’s room, written Janitor boldly on it. Without wasting another minute outside, she pushed the door open and behold she saw the woman arranging some stuff inside the room.

The woman was so engrossed with what she was doing that she didn’t notice Asha standing behind her.

“Good morning ma.” Asha greeted and that was when she stopped doing whatever she was doing and turned to Asha.

“Good morning dear, how may I help you?” The woman asked with a smile.

Asha went dumbstruck as she only found herself staring at the woman. The resemblance was there and she couldn’t help but continue staring.

‘The resemblance is there but I was too ignorant to notice it. Who would Josh react to if I told him?’ she asked herself inwardly.

“Dear, are you ok?” The question brought Asha back to reality.

Asha stared at the woman and smiled, “I am fine but there is something I need to discuss with you ma.”

“What is it dear and why do I feel like I know you?” The woman asked instead.

“Of course you know me, but we haven’t really talked to each other. I am the mother of that little girl whom you often spend time with and am also the girl that you touched her necklace one.” Asha explained and she smiled.

“Oh, now I remember. Your daughter is really sweet and sometimes acts mature, didn’t you come with her?” The woman asked innocently, a sad expression on her face.

Asha shook her head side to side, “She is with her dad.” She replied and the woman let out a oh.

“Can we talk for a few minutes?” Asha asked politely, while the woman furrowed her brows.

“What was it you wanted to talk about dear?” The woman asked with a smile.

“It seems she loves smiling a lot, just like me.” Asha said inwardly and smiled.

“I need answers to questions that I’ve been battling with.”

“What kind of questions dear, and how am I the one who knows the answers to them?” The woman asked as she batted her long lashes.

“It’s about your past.”

The woman pursed her lips and looked Asha directly in the eyes.

“Why do you want to know about my past?” she asked and Asha swallowed hard.

“I just want to confirm something.” Asha replied, praying inwardly that the woman tells her what she needs to know.

The woman stood up from where she was seated. “I am sorry but I don’t think I can help you. Have a good day ahead.” She said,

She took a step forward but the words of Asha stopped her right on her track and she turned to Asha’s direction.

“What did you just say?” She asked in a trembling voice.

“I said that Josh is alive. You son whom you think is dead, is alive and I know where he is right now.” Asha said.

After a few minutes, the woman took her seat and Asha felt happy but didn’t show it.

“I don’t believe you, Josh is dead because I looked for him everywhere but he was nowhere to be found. What proof do you have to make me believe you?” The woman asked as she rubbed her palms together.

“Do you know what he looks like right now?”

“No, the last time I saw him was twenty years ago but I know my son when I see him.” she replied.

Asha brought out her phone from her bag and passed the phone to the woman.

The woman looked at the picture on the screen then, she covered her mouth and her eyes dilated.

“That’s your son right?” Asha asked and she nodded her head.

“That is what he looks like right now.” Asha said again but heard no reply from the woman as she was speechless.

“I can’t believe this…Josh is alive…I thought I lost him.” The woman stuttered as she wept bitterly.

Asha stood up and walked over to the woman as she consoled her.

“It’s ok, everything will be fine now. Josh also misses you.” She muttered as she rubbed her shoulder lightly.
