CHAPTER 9

The drive was fast and smooth so they got there in few minutes
A stretcher was brought out on which she was pushed in
She was taken in for treatment
“A female doctor should attend to her please, I hope you understand” Philip said to the male doctors
” Sure” they replied and called for a female doctor who came in no time
Philip sat in the reception with Robin who’s still crying slowly
He looked at his hands
“I just carried a woman” he thought
“I carried a woman” he thought again, not believing he actually did that…
“Dad..” Robin called beside him
He looked up at him
He still has that guilty look on his face
“Chef will be ok right?” He said hopefully
He sighed and brought him to his laps
” Sure, chef will be ok” he said simply
“Dad are you still mad at me? ” He said
Philip managed to smile
” At all, I’m no more angry” he replied
” If I hadn’t sent her to get watermelon, she’ll be fine now” Robin said
” That’s true… But trust me she’ll be fine, and I hope from now on you’ll start treating her nicely” Philip said
” Sure dad” he replied and hugged him
The doctor came out shortly
Philip stood
“How’s she doing?” He asked
“She’s fine now, she just needs rest and she might end up losing a lot of weight if she doesn’t, she really really needs rest at least for two days” the doctor said
” What about her bruises?” Philip asked
” They’ve been treated, she’ll be fine sir, you don’t have to worry” the doctor replied
” When will she wake up?” Robin asked in Philip’s arms
“Soon dear” the doctor replied…
They entered her ward and met her lying unconsciously on the bed
Her wounds have truly been treated and plastered
“I’m sorry chef” Robin said as if she’s awake
“She can’t hear you” Philip said
“But I feel like apologizing to her already, I want her to wake up now” he replied, wanting to start crying again
” Hey stop it…you heard when the doctor said she’ll be fine…chill ok?” Philip said
Robin nodded
Philip looked over at Melanie again
She looks tired even in her unconscious state
And to think he actually carried her in his arms,..
It’s still unbelievable
He decided to call Chef Sally and he did
She came in a short time , rushing into the ward
“What exactly happened” she said quickly, staring at Melanie on the bed
Philip explained everything and Robin hid his face on his chest to avoid looking at Sally’s face
“Should we call her parents?” Philip asked
“She only has a mum, her dad is in a bad condition at Survivors hospitals” Sally replied
” Bad condition?”
” Yeah, being in a vegetative state since six years ago is a bad condition right?, He has been like that since what happened to Melanie, and since then, she has been doing everything possible to make sure she pays for his life supporting machine every month, her mum works at your company, you don’t know her?, Susan Fontana one of the cleaners?” Sally said
” I really didn’t notice” Philip said
” Oh I guess you’re too busy to notice” Sally said with an heavy sigh
Philip looked at unconscious Melanie again
“She’s just…too strong, not minding her trauma, she’s still so strong, I pity her a lot and sometimes I cry for her” Sally said
Philip kept mute
” Calling her mum will only make her worry so let’s leave her out of this… and you Robin, I hope you stop giving her hard time” Sally said.
Robin made guilty faces
” Hey don’t feel guilty, just change” Sally said
“Doctor says she’ll wake up soon and she needs at least two days rest” Philip said
” That’s better she always works too much” Sally replied, sitting beside her and holding her hand
“Wake up soon” she thought
Philip inhaled hard, right now, he’s full of pity for her..

“Your uniform and sports wear has been sent?” Lillian asked as he shopped together with Valerie for her school stuffs
“Yeah, I paid for it immediately I got the admission letter, and it was sent Immediately” Valerie replied, picking a cup of pen
” You’re lucky you have a caring sis” Lillian said
“I know right?, I wonder why her line isn’t going through, and she hasn’t called too… maybe she’s out of battery and she’s always busy” Valerie said
” Maybe…by the way you’re a student of Lighthouse highschool from Monday, my school is not a joke, there are je.rks and bches, you’ve already met one je.rk..the other one I think you’ll meet him on Monday, and a popular bch too” Lillian said
“oh, I hope I don’t get in trouble..but to be sincere, despite his harshness, he’s cute…what’s his name again….em..
“Dwayne?” Lillian said
Valerie nodded
“You’re crushing on him after he pushed you?” Lillian asked
” Honestly it was love at first sight” Valerie said
” You’re crazy, you won’t have any reason to like him once you start seeing more of his crazy harsh side” Lillian said, going out of the store with her after they’ve finished shopping…

The bike man was caught easily, thanks to the CCTV in front of the gate, it captured him clearly
Philip made sure to send him to detention cos to the law, it’s an attempted murder
Sally went to the station with him
“Do you want to charge him to court?” The detective asked
“No, a little t©rture will do, just t©rture him for three days and let him go, he’d have learnt his lessons by then” he replied
” Sure, that’s right” Sally replied beside him ..

Hospital**
Robin held Melanie’s hand with a sad look on his face
It’s getting dark already and he’s feeling sleepy but he’s trying hard to fight it
He just wants to make sure he’s present when she’ll wake up
And it came to pass, she held his hand tighter
He spranged up
“Chef!”
She opened her eyes slowly
“Rob?” She said, opening up fully
“Yeah, it’s me chef, you’re awake” he said happily
She sat up on the bed
” Have you eaten?” She asked
*No” he replied
” Then let’s go home, I’ll cook for you” she said and tried to get down from the bed
” Stop!, You don’t even know how worried I was….I thought you were gonna die and I thought I won’t see you again, I felt guilty for sending you to get watermelon and almost died of guilt, and here you are, talking about food, it’s not important right now” he said, crying slightly
” Hey Robin…stop the tears” she said , wiping the tears
“Don’t die chef” he said with a crying pout
Melanie laughed slightly
“Nothing is gonna happen to me, I won’t die, happy now?” She said
” Promise me” he said childishly
” I promise” she replied
He climbed the bed and hugged her immediately and it feels like she’s dreaming
Is this really Robin?, But she hugged him back all the same, smiling while at it
“By the way where’s Mr Albert?” She suddenly asked
He broke the hug
” He went to the police station with chef Sally, the bike man has been caught” he replied
” I’m glad” she said
Maybe thanks to pain relievers, she’s feeling less pains from the wounds
“But how did I get here?” She suddenly asked
” Dad carried you in his arms into the car and the driver drove us here” he replied
” Me Albert?, Carried me?” She said
“Sure, he did, I was surprised too, he dislikes contact with women” Robin said
” Thankfully I wasn’t conscious” she thought, still surprised
Philip entered with Sally immediately
“My Melanie” Sally said, hugging her on the bed
“Chef” she replied , hugging her back
“I’m glad you’re awake now” she said happily
“Yeah I’m glad too, we can go home now right?” She replied
” Not allowed, are you a bulldozer?, Rest for tommorow and Sunday, you can come back home on Monday” Philip said
” But Mr Albert, how’s Robin gonna eat…
“We’ll eat out for the two days, the doctor says you need rest” he replied
” But I can’t possibly stay in the hospital for two days” Melanie insisted
“Stop being stubborn” Sally said
She sighed
” Ok fine” she replied slowly
“Are you sad that you’ll miss me?, Don’t worry I’ll come spend the whole tommorow and Sunday with you” Robin said
Melanie smiled and widened her arms
He hugged her
Philip looked on in shock
Robin will always say he can never hug anyone besides him
But now … This is surprising
Sally smiled lightly
“I’ll send your food” Philip said
“Yes Mr Albert” Melanie replied
They later went home, leaving Sally with Melanie
After taking showers, they went out to eat at an expensive restaurant
He ordered a takeaway delivery for Melanie at the hospital
Father and son sat across each other, eating
But it’s tasteless to Robin
“Chef’s food is the best, this isn’t tasty” he complained, managing to swallow it
” That’s your punishment for making her end up on the hospital bed” he replied
” She forgave me already and even hugged me … But I guess I can’t escape punishment, I can’t believe I’ll continue eating something like this for complete two days” Robin said, drinking his juice
Philip smiled
” You like her now?” He asked
“A lot, chef is the best too” Robin replied with thumbs up
Philip’s mind drifted to her again
She’s really really strong according to what Sally said
And he can’t help but admire her strong will and firmness
But to think he actually carried her..
But can he really blame himself?
Immediately she fell like that, all what’s in his head is to save her and nothing more
*************
Next day**
“Chef you know I’m sick and tired of restaurant foods, they’re tasteless” Robin complained beside Melanie
It was actually a driver who dropped him
Philip went somewhere
“You only started eating it last night” Melanie smiled
“I can’t wait for you to come back, I missed your cooking” he pouted
” You only missed my cooking?” She said
” No… Actually I miss you a little bit” he replied
” That’s unfair” Melanie said
” I was joking, I miss you a lot, just get enough rest before Monday… promise to fry pancakes for me by Monday” he said
” You’ve never tasted it?” She asked
” Of course I have, but yours will taste different so I can’t wait” he replied
” Ok, sure we’ll fry it together on Monday after you come back from school” she replied
” High five” he replied
They stuck hands and laughed
Philip watched from where he’s standing by the door
He smiled , he has never seen Robin this happy before…

Monday**
“Yay!, Finally back home!” Robin screamed when Melanie came back on her own…
He jumped on her and she carried him
“Love you Robin” she said
“I only love Dad” he replied
Melanie chuckled
” It’s fine” she said, dropping him
Philip came downstairs
“Welcome back chef, I hope you’re fine now” he said
She nodded
” Yes Mr Albert, good morning” she replied respectfully
“Same here” he replied with a light smile
” So…what would you like to eat to school, I’ll quickly fix something” Melanie asked Robin
” Just make omelette, I’ll eat bread, right dad?” He said
” Sure” Philip replied, going back upstairs to take his bath
Melanie is walking into the kitchen when Robin called her back
“Chef”
She looked back
“I love you!, Don’t tell Dad” he said quickly before running upstairs
She smiled radiantly…
After close to fourthy minutes, they both came back downstairs all dressed
Melanie served them the omelette and bread
Robin ate with great appetite
“Now this is what I’m talking about, even the omelette is great” Robin said, licking his lips
” Now that chef is back, I hope you don’t skip meals like yesterday” Philip said
” Robin you didn’t eat throughout yesterday?, But you told me you ate” Melanie said.
” Well I’m sorry I lied to you,I didn’t eat cos the restaurant foods has become tasteless…dad stop pretending like you ate too, dad didn’t eat too” he replied
Melanie gave Philip looks before smiling
Philip concentrated on his food
“Restaurant food really suck since you arrived” he said slowly
Melanie smiled more
” You aren’t going to school today right?” Robin asked
“Chef Sally won’t want to see me in school, she said I should still stay home for today, I’ll go to school tomorrow but I’m staying home all day today” she replied
” That’s better” Philip said, looking up
Their eyes met but Melanie quickly looked away..

Lighthouse highschool**
Valerie followed the English teacher into the class for introduction and she feels really scared of how they’re all staring
“And I’m welcoming you all to new term,… among the scholarship students, she’s the only one in this class so I hope you guys take her in, introduce yourself”
” Hi everyone, I’m Valerie Fontana…I hope we all get along” she said simply
A student hissed loudly
” Whitney is that you?* The teacher asked
A pretty girl stood but she looks rude
” She’s not fit for this school, she should just off” Whitney replied
” You aren’t In the place to decide that cos for all I know, you don’t deserve to be in this school either” the teacher replied
Whitney fell back on her sit
Valerie found herself a seat beside Lillian
“That’s Whitney, the only bitch in Lighthouse highschool, she has a crush on your crush” Lillian said
” Oh” Valerie replied
” Your crush and his step brother aren’t in school yet” Lillian said and almost immediately, Darien entered
He has unique eye colour and he’s handsome too but not as handsome as Dwayne
“Yes, that’s his stepbrother, girls are his food, he’s a Casanova, Dwayne’s greatest enemy” Lillian said
” That’s bad” Valerie said, looking at him
Darien sat and his eyes caught Valerie’s eyes
He quickly looked away
Darien smiled
“New hot chick” he said silently
Then minutes later, the real grumpy guy entered the class
Dwayne, as handsome as ever but also as frowny as ever
Girls gushed silently as he took his seat at the back of the class
Valerie felt her heartbeat increase just like the first time she saw him
“Be careful of those three, I mean Dwayne, Darien and Whitney” Lillian said, bringing out her sweater
” I think it’ll rain this morning” Valerie said, bringing out her sweater too
She put it on and the first teacher for the day entered
The physics teacher
It started raining immediately
But not minding that, he started teaching
“Mr Sanjay and his craziness over classes” Lillian groaned
Valerie stylishly looked back at Dwayne
He’s expressionless but still hot
Few bruises is still on his face
“New girl!” The teacher called, bringing her back to her senses
She faced the front
“Huh!”
“Stand up” Lillian whispered
She stood
“Solve this question for us” Mr Sanjay said, pointing the marker at a question on the board
She went forward, fidgeting as she took the marker
She started solving the question with shaky hands
In three minutes, she’s done, it’s a piece of cake
But unknown to her, she made a small mistake towards the end, making her get the wrong answer
She got 17
“Dwayne” Mr Sanjay called
He reluctantly stood and came to the front
Valerie watched as he solved the question fast
He got 18
“See?, You made a mistake” Mr Sanjay said
Dwayne looked at her but she quickly ducked her face in the ground
“I’m sorry” she said
“Give her any punishment you like, no one makes mistakes in my class” Mr Sanjay said to Dwayne
” And Lillian, follow me” he said before leaving
Lillian left the class with Mr Sanjay
Valerie stood still in front of the class with Dwayne
“When he gets the chance to transfer aggression, he never wastes time, I wonder what he’ll tell that cutie to do” Darien muttered
“you can tell her to wash the toilets baby!” Whitney said loudly
The whole class laughed
Dwayne gave Valerie one last look before finally talking
“Go kneel down in the rain” he said
“Huh!”
