(TEN YEARS AGO)
The car stopped at a big Mansion and a teenage girl dressed in black along with a lady in her fifties got out of the car.
“Where are we mom?” The young girl asked as she held onto the picture of her late father.
“We are at your uncle house, your father brother and this island is called Cain island” her mother replied
“But why did we have to come here?”I asked
“We have to! You know we have no where to go and your father said that we should go to his brother and ask for help, he will surely give us his help “Her mother replied.
Together they walked towards the big house only to stop when they saw a man coming out side to wards them
He had a look of surprise on his face, seems like he was not expecting them.
“Hello Christopher”Her mother greeted the man who walked towards them.
“Why are you here?”the Christopher guy asked.
“You must have heard that my husband died and so we have come for your help”She said
“James had said we can come to you and that you will help us”She added starring at the Christopher guy.
Racheal could tell that he was her uncle because he looked just like her father but a different version entirely.
He looked so cold compared to her own father warmth.
She would have preferred if they were still at the city but desperation drove them here, she had seen her mom working hard and she didn’t want that for her mom any more.
“So you came to me after so many years?”He asked starring at her mom.
“Yes we have to, we have no place to go and any money to use, you might call me shameless for returning to you ask for a place to stay but I need money and a place to stay “Her mom said to him.
“I still don’t believe this!”The man said out in frustration.
Racheal kept on looking at the man and wonder why he won’t just say yes immediately.
After all they were his only relative apart from his dead brother who is her dad.
“Look I know you are still angry about what happened in the past and me coming here like this only shows how worthless I am not after what I did to you but please consider my young daughter, she is just fifteen and we have no roof over our head and that is why have come here please take us in Christopher”She begged softly.
The man stared down at her for the first time , seems like he hadn’t even noticed her there before, Racheal thought.
“She is James daughter right?”He asked as still starring at her.
“Yes she is”her mother replied with a slight hesitation.
Racheal wondered why her mother will give a response so reluctantly, when they were in their room, she would certainly ask her mother why did she did such a thing.
Racheal looked at the man only to see that he had an angry look on his face and his hands were clenched.
She wanted to hide behind her mom but she knew that she couldn’t, she has to be brave for her mom.
“Please Christopher, think about her ,she is just little and I won’t mind any place you ask us to stay just as long as we have a place to stay”Her mother continued the persuasion.
“You don’t have a place to stay and you wouldn’t have come if I wasnt your last choice right?”he asked
“Yes”Her mom replied softly .
“Fine then , I will give you a place to stay, come with me,I will show you a place myself, you see this island belongs to me and I even have a resort around the corner”He said
“Are we going to be staying in the resort?”Racheal asked excitedly talking to her uncle for the first time.
The man sent her a cold look and walked on with our answering her.
They walked to the back of the house only to see a small house.
It looks a bit old but in good condition, why would he bring them there when there were a lot of rooms in his resort and also in his house , Racheal thought as she stared at the house with a sort of distaste
“Look at this! Isn’t it good for you two?”He asked wearing a false smile on his face
“It….is” Her mother Answered softly and Racheal looked at her
“It doesn’t look good, why will he bring us here?”Racheal said starring at her mom
“It’s the only place I can give to my brother wife and daughter, if you don’t want it, you can certainly go back to the states, you left before ,you can certainly leave again” he said starring at her mom.
Racheal knew then and there that he was using it to punish them for some thing but what could it be,she thought as she stared at mom.
Her mom was finding it hard to talk but when she was able to talk she said softly.
“We will take it, your generosity to allow us to stay is some thing I will appreciate for the rest of my life”Her mother said softly
“That’s settled then, I will tell my wife and daughter about you ,they will come and check on you two, make your self at home”He said
“You got married again?” Racheal mom asked him
“Yes I did, Isabel needed a mother and so I had to, so tell me? Does that hurt you to hear”He asked her mom
“It doesn’t but please take this”She said walking towards him with her treasured handkerchief.
“What’s this for?”He asked
“It’s a thank you gift for letting us stay here ,it’s a treasured handkerchief of mine”she added and Racheal at first thought that he would reject it but he held it,nodded gently and walked off.
Why would take the handkerchief, Racheal thought as she watched her mother watch him walk off slowly.
Just what went wrong with this two, she thought as she stared at her mom clenched fist and sad face, Who is Christopher to her? She wondered……………………

(PRESENT TIME)
CHRISTOPHER POV
I sat in my study doing some paper work for the company when I thought about her.
I opened a locked chest which have always Kept locked all the time and I took out her hand Ker chief.
She had given it to me back, it was the same hand Ker chief I had given to her years ago.
Why did she have to return with James child saying she had treasured this hand Ker chief for years.
Why did I have to be cruel towards her, why didn’t I use the little time given to us to get back with her.
Why did I let my pride get in the way, why didn’t I hold onto her and why did I neglect her until she died.
Just then the door opened and Denise walked in slamming the door in return.
“Until when Chris?, Every thing is getting on my nerves, most especially that girl Emily”
“Ever since her injury, she has taken all of Cade attention,my son hardly look my way, can you imagine that!”She said looking so angry
“Maybe it’s because you keep on being hostile towards his wife instead of being cool with her”I said softly
“What? You want me to be cool to her, you know I detest her and I would prefer your daughter Isabel for him, you said you were going to help to keep them apart but you haven’t been doing any thing!”She said starring at me
“Do you think so?”I asked putting out a document
“What’s this?”she asked
“Just go through it”I said feeling irritated
“My God! It says here that they never got married and that it’s all a farce,is it really true?” She asked,
“Yes it is, as you can read there my investigator did his research and he found out that Cade never married Emily, she is just a cover up that he used to decieve us so he wouldn’t marry Isabel”I said
“I knew it! I knew my son would never marry any one Lower than our status, what are we going to do, we should go to them and talk it out”She said
“Not now, we shouldn’t tell them yet, we will give it to them as a surprise, a surprise which they won’t be able to get out from”I said and out of happiness, she hugged me, I stiffened at her embrace and she noticed it too because she let go of me and gave me a look.
“I can see that you are holding that hand Ker chief again? What? Are you feeling guilty about what you did to her in the past or are you regretting not being with her and choosing to stay with me?”She asked me
“Just leave Denise”I said softly
“I will! You just ruined my mood completely”She said in anger and left the room
I sat down clutching the hand Ker chief still feeling hurt by what I did to her and daughter Racheal.
