HOUSE OF THORNS

Episode 42

Valerie and Leonard had been having a blast since they got back from their engagement trip. Leonard was feeling every bit of the positive vibes Valerie was exuding.

He was feeling so good with the choice he had made.

He was very happy about how she had buckled up in life. She had become so dedicated to her duties in Mcmorrit Holdings that in a very short while, she would be said to favourably be competing with the key players in the Marketing industry.

He was more happy with the fact that even though they’re entangled in a love relationship, even though they’re engaged to be married, she manages to remain focused with her job as soon as they get to work.

They could be playing and chatting while they rode to the office, she switches immediately to her professional mode, the moment they arrived the company’s parking lot.

Valerie was feeling so good with the fame she had gained suddenly.

After the memorable marriage proposal she got, a lot of people managed to know about her existence.

Some even could recognise her once she’s on the streets, all thanks to all the hyping and publicity the proposal got.

She could just be out in a shopping mall and people would walk up to her to congratulate her.

A particular girl had made her blush uncontrollably with the way she was gushing at her endlessly.

“I can’t believe you look prettier than your photos made you look. You look amazing!” she had told Valerie, hugging her tightly.

Tricia was already tired of waiting for her sister. They had gone to the shopping mall to get the things their mother asked for, and she wouldn’t have known that they’d end up spending all the time they had to catch up with the boys, smiling and chatting with admirers like celebs.

“Thank you for the compliments my dear, but she needs to catch up with an appointment now” Tricia told the girl before pulling Valerie behind her, and walked out of the shopping mall.

Valerie was laughing while they drove towards home. The plan was to quickly get what their mother asked for before they went to the Water Resort Leonard and Vince were waiting for them.

But she had been feeling like a celebrity, stopping to snap with people and talking with those who complimented her non stop.

Mrs. Mcmorrit was waiting for her children at home. She had asked them to get the things she needed ahead of the engagement party their father had insisted held in celebration of the engagement of his only children.

The old man was thrilled beyond understanding to see the type of men his daughters had chosen.

He was grateful to note that Vince exuded so much maturity and wisdom, giving him the assurance that Tricia would be in safe hands, and that her bright stars that were already crystal clear to see, wouldn’t be dimmed by a wrong choice of spouse.

Vince would help push her stars into limelight, he reckoned; he could tell he was going to be a perfect match for Tricia’s brilliance and excellent demeanor.

But his greatest joy was in the choice of man Valerie had made. Not only did the man have a perfect match with Valerie in looks, he had a way of affecting Valerie, compelling her to be more inclined to her development and self building.

He had for instance been able to make Valerie agree to take a full time job in the company.

And the beauty of it all was that, not only was she doing so well, as opposed to what he had expected of his ever playful daughter, she was making him begin to see another aspect of her he never knew existed all his life.

The Valerie he knew would always be concerned about her looks, never thinking about her tomorrow and being as carefree as the birds of the air.

But with Leonard in her life, the old man could see Valerie doing the most to be good enough by his sides.

Leonard was one of the human assets Mcmorrit Holdings never joked with, and with his daughter beginning to allow the part of her that had never been put to use get into use, she was beginning to make him so proud.

So he had insisted that they held an engagement party. He wanted to invite friends, to invite associates and business colleagues to join in the celebration of the perfect choices his children had made.

He had already approved his wife’s budget for the paryt, so the woman asked her daughters to get her some of her personal things she needed for the party.

A big event management company had been hired to take care of the planning and the hosting of that party.

It was a party that meant so much to the Mcmorrits after all.

The planner had been told how important this occasion was, and even though she had intentionally hiked the prices of the things they needed for the occasion, the Mcmorrits didn’t give a hoot about what it would cost them.
