Chapter 3

Rika sat at her study with her head phones on, studying. She was solving a particularly difficult equation when she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen. She groaned. It was that time of the month again. She knew she could just ask her maid to get a s@nitary p@d for her from the huge stash she had, but she decided to go out and get some herself from the local convenience store.

She donned a large hoodie that reached her thighs, with boxer shorts and her br.a underneath, and headed out the door. It was pretty late so she felt she didn’t have to worry about being properly dressed.

She arrived at the store and headed straight for the women’s aisle. She browsed through the products until she found her her favorite brand of s@nitary towels, grabbed two packs and headed over to the cashier’s to pay.

However she stopped dead in her tracks when she spotted someone in the junk food aisle.

It was Levi Akabane.

Rika thought to herself. Seriously, people should cut her some slack. Levi Akabane was hotter than the sun itself. His cold demeanor and constant frown just made her want to tease him all the more.

She liked how smart he was, and was ready to do anything to get an emotional reaction out of his stoic features. It was also really fun fl!rting with him. He wasn’t like most men and boys she knew.

In fact, Levi was a bit similar to….

Him.

Maybe that’s why she was so enthralled with Levi. But only in a fun way of course.

He was a puzzle, and Rika loved challenges.

She strutted up to him and gave him a cheery smile.

“Hi!”

She greeted, and Levi cast a glance at her.

“Good evening Rika.” He said and quickly began to move away from her.

Ohhh no. He wasn’t getting off that easily, Rika thought to herself.

She quickly followed him. “This place is very far from your law firm. What brings you to this side of town?” Levi picked up a packet of bubble tea, still not meeting Rika’s eyes.

“I was at Sato Enterprises for work. Figured I’d stop by and get somethings before heading home.”

Sato Enterprises was the name of her family’s company. Her dad had built their house to be very close to the company building.

“Ah.” Rika nodded in understanding. “Well, since you’re here, you can pay for these.” She said as she dumped her pads into his shopping basket.

Levi cast a look into the basket, then back at her. She thought he would protest, but he just sighed tiredly and moved on to another aisle.

Rika thought, ‘Sweet! He didn’t argue! I can get him to buy me some candy!”

She made her way to look for one of her favorite candies but it seemed the store was out of them. She gave up and headed to the cashier’s where Levi was already standing. She gave him a sultry smile which he didn’t return.

As the cashier began to price Levi’s goods, she looked through and noticed that her pads weren’t there.

“Hey wait….” She began as the cashier wrapped up the goods.

“Didn’t you….?” “Buy your own groceries.” Levi’s said sharply and walked out the door.

Rika stood dumbfounded. She was completely speechless at his actions, but she quickly recovered and chased after him.

“Hey!” She called out as she finally caught up to him.

“Why didn’t you buy it?”

Levi continued walking. “Because I’m not your piggy bank.” He answered.

She smiled to herself and decided to change the subject. She would let him have this round. He at least deserved a false sense of dominance and security before she pounced on him and gobbled him up.

Make no mistake. She was predator, he was prey.

It was that simple.

She noticed that they had walked a few meters. “Where are you going? Didn’t you bring your car?” “It’s parked in the company parking lot.” “Ohhh.”

They walked in silence again, Levi in front with Rika following behind him. “Are you going to follow me all the way home?” He asked sarcastically.

Rika giggled. “If you want me to.”

Levi finally stopped walking and turned to face her.

“Why are you bothering me Rika?”

“I told you. I like you.”

“No you don’t. You’re just using me to amuse yourself. This is all a game to you. You’re just a stupid teenager with obviously too much time on her hands. I won’t be toyed with by the likes of you.”

Levi’s words stung Rika straight to her heart. ‘The likes of you’. Why did his words hurt so much?

She quickly regained her usual confidence, and smiled slowly.

“You’re right Levi. I am just toying with you. And the more you treat me like this the more I’ll bother you. You make me feel excited. But…..I think you’ve had enough for tonight. I’ll get going now.” She said finally and turned away from him, walking briskly in the direction of her house.

His words rang through her head like broken records and they hurt so much. In the end, Levi was just like everybody else. He couldn’t see beyond what she gave him to see.

She had actually thought he was different.

She felt tears brimming in her eyes and gave herself a dirty sl@p. “Are you about to cry for a man?” She asked herself.

“You must have really gone insane Rika Sato.”

????

As Levi drove home, he thought about his conversation with Rika. “Oh Jesus. I shouldn’t have said that.” He groaned as he ran his hands through his hair in frustration.

It had only been for a fraction of a second, but he had seen the hurt flash across Rika’s face. His words had hurt her.

He had gotten unusually good at reading her hidden expressions, and she was someone who KNEW how to hide them.

Levi sighed.

Rika Sato was an enigma. She was like a beautiful but lethal weapon that he couldn’t help being curious about.

Yeah, that’s what he was.

Curious.

A week later, he decided to visit that same store again. A part of him hoped he would bump into her so he could apologize. To his surprise, he saw her standing there in the same junk food aisle he was in before and holding the same bubble tea he had been holding when they met last time.

He walked up to her.

“Rika.” He called.

She looked up, and didn’t look at all surprised to see him.

“Mr Akabane.” She called sweetly. “What a coincidence.”

Levi sighed. “Look about the last time,…. What I said wasn’t a mistake and I did mean it when I said it. What I didn’t mean was for it to hurt you.”

He stared directly at her. “I’m sorry.”

?????

Rika watched as Levi apologized to to her, staring directly into her eyes. His gaze was so piercing and so deep that she almost passed out. She didn’t expect him to figure out that his words had hurt or to apologize.

Her heart thumped loudly. She rose her hands and smacked her face loudly and painfully. Levi looked shocked.

She moved to do it again but he grabbed her hand.

“Just what on Earth are you doing?”

His expression wasn’t one of disgust, or anger, but of concern.

Rika could barely hear herself think over the sound of her heart. What had started out as a joke to her was suddenly getting very real.

How ironic.

She stared at Levi squarely and said,

“Levi Akabane, I think I’m In love with you.”
