Episode 7.
The next day Ditebogo calmly carried Hope to Anastasia who was busy preparing to go out, “good morning sis, Dite greeted.
“Do I look like your sis and what’s the problem? Anastasia asked.
“The baby, Dite said and she scoffed.
“So what about the baby? Are you tired of her already? Anastasia asked.
“No not that, I thought you’ll clean her up, especially her navel. She’s in pain, Dite replied.
“Ohh too sad, and you can’t do it huh? Were you blind when I use to do that? Just carry her out of my sight, Anastasia said and continued brushing while Dite stood confused.
“I’m still yet to understand what she has done to you, I mean she is not too tender for this maltreatment? Dite asked but Anastasia pretended not hear her and Dite slowly left.
“No keep standing there to tell me nonsense, rubbish! Anastasia said and hissed.
Dite left to an elderly woman place with Hope in her arms after Anastasia left for work without dropping brea$t milk for her,
“But I know Anastasia, she’s always caring to her babies, this is unlike her, The woman said after hearing all Ditebogo said.
“I’m surprised myself, though I haven’t stayed long with them as I just did, but I always hear my late mom praising her for that responsibility alone. But I don’t know why everything seems to change with this baby. Ma I can swear this little being has not received any kind of love from the both of them, especially my brother, he has never held her hand even once, i wonder how she will survive with them when I’ll leave, Dite said.
“So you mean she has not been pressing her navel? The woman asked checking Hope.
“Except I beg like I want to die, Hope cried the whole night because of that and I felt it but she didn’t care, Dite replied and the woman heaved.
“Please boil me a little water, don’t worry I’ll attend to her, the woman said.
“Thank you ma, Dite said and hurriedly went into her kitchen to heat the water.
“Alright, sit and watch me in case you want to do it.. You know you can be a mother to this little girl if Anastasia doesn’t care for her. You can just fk her aside, after all she is not brea$tfeeding her, carry on with the oranges and the God of the orphans will not let anything bad happen to her. Get me a towel, The woman said and Dite hurriedly got it and the woman smiled.
“Tell me something, why are so concerned about her? I can see it in your eyes, the woman said.
“Hmm ma I can’t tell, but I see something so special in her I can’t let go, Dite said.
“That’s good, now watch, the woman said………….
3 days later, Ditebogo was just playing with Hope in the sitting room while Anastasia gathered with her daughters working their assignment.
It was weekend and everyone seems to be engrossed with what they were doing and Hope gave signs of hunger.
“Sorry baby i’ll be back, Dite said dropping her to go get the fruit she smashed for her while Anastasia didn’t care.
Her phone began to ring and she checked it out and saw Julia calling,
“Hello Julia, Anastasia picked up.
“Hi how are you doing? She asked.
“I’m good and you? Julia asked.
“I’m good too, is that my baby crying? Julia asked.
“yea she normally cries when bathing, and how is my baby? Anastasia asked.
“She’s bouncing good. OK good news, Julia said.
“You’re coming down? I know it, Anastasia said and Julia laughed.
“Okay you got me, I’ll be coming down there tomorrow, Julia replied.
“Wow thats good, Anastasia said.
“Yea, so you can start tomorrow, Julia continued.
“Will you mind I clean the house? You know no one has occupied it for weeks now, Anastasia said.
“No no, there is a maid there doing all of that. Your only job is the welfare of Palesa, you can’t be a maid nau, Julia replied and Anastasia laughed.
“I didn’t know there was a maid, I only wanted to help, Anastasia replied.
“I appreciate that, okay I’ll send the address right away, Julia said.
“I’ll be waiting, bye and safe journey, Anastasia said and the line went dead.
By then Ditebogo was back to the sitting room feeding Hope, and she shook her head hearing the conversation.
“Mommy why are you so happy? Grace asked.
“Yes baby, your mommy just got a job and i’ll be starting tomorrow, Anastasia replied.
“Wow mommy congrats, her daughters chorused.
“Thank you, now let’s concentrate, where did we stop? Anastasia asked looking into their books…………………
That evening Mpho returned from his friends place and Anastasia walked up to him,
“We need to talk, she said.
“Woman I am tired right now, I just hope whatever you want to say will be meaningful, Mpho replied.
“Okay, I’ve got a job as a nanny to a rich couple, apparently its their first child and they want me as an experienced mother to take care of their little girl, Anastasia said.
“So what should I do with it? Okay let me make myself clear, what ever you do Anastasia is none of my business. I am just here because of the kids and nothing more, so please do whatever you think you know how to do I don’t care, but just make sure the kids doesn’t disturb because you won’t like my reaction on them, Mpho said.
“You won’t dare touch my kids and don’t even try it, just pray in your next life you should have some male children in your sp.erm so you won’t heap your frustration on a woman! Anastasia shouted and Mpho slowly got up.
“Whatever you want from me this night, be careful I won’t break your head and end your frustrated life for you. I’ll advice you try and live for those ba$tards you call children, take my advice and live, Mpho said and left to his room.
“Ba$tards you say huh! Don’t worry I’ll remind you of that statement someday, Anastasia shouted in anger following him behind.
Ditebogo hearing all the hullaboo was busy singing for Hope in her room waiting for her to fall asleep…………………
“Whose child is this? Julia asked seeing two baby girls laid in a cradle.
“Awwwnn my darling, you’re awake? Julia heard and saw a strange woman walked in and took up Palesa.
“What are you doing? But that’s not your baby, please drop mine and take her, she must be yours, Julia said to her.
“Excuse me? You mean you don’t know your daughter? The woman asked.
“This must be one big Joke, this is Palesa, my daughter, and this baby here, I don’t know her, Julia said.
“I think you are sick, this is my baby, go look for yours, the woman said.
“You must be cr@zy! Give me back my baby! Doctor! Julia shouted struggling with her and Alfred woke her up.
“What’s wrong? You screamed out the doctor why? Alfred asked holding her and Julia saw it was a dream breathing hard.
“Was it a dream? Thank God it was. Honey we are not safe here, Julia said almost crying.
“Honey common, what’s the problem? I’m here okay, Alfred said calming her down.
“A woman came carrying Palesa, a woman came carrying my baby saying its hers and i should go look for mine, what does it mean? Julia asked and Alfred smiled.
“How is that even possible dear? No one can do that and you know. It was just a bad dream okay, look Palesa is peacefully sleeping, Alfred said pointing on her bed.
“Can.. Can.. can I please carry her? I mean to sleep with her, I’m so scared right now, Julia said.
“Honey stop this, I’ll go lock up everywhere If thats what you want, nothing is going to happen, calm down okay, Alfred said and she nodded while he locked up the doors.
“You see, are you okay now? He asked and she nodded.
“Now let’s go back to bed, Alfred said…………….
