JASMINE The University Girl

Episode 9

It’s been one week now and I haven’t heard from Samuel, it’s really good to be free. I never knew he could be this mute, after all his threat, and this taught me a lesson that the devil will only have you in bondage if you don’t open up to God the only one that can save.

In my case Kemi was the one God used as a lifesaver, her wisdom and confidence challenges me, she is never afraid of any problem or situation, instead she will fight till she win. The devil cannot have us in his bondage unless he have an evidence (sin) against us. As long as we continue to hide our sin, we will fear the devil rather than fearing God. We just finished our Exams, and the exams went really well, I was able to concentrate well since I was free from the bondage of Samuel.

I decided to relax for few days in school before going home, I need to relax my brain after reading for exams, so I decided to watch a movie. I love watching movies a lot, Christian movies especially foreign ones. Nigerians Christian movies are not bad too, I watch them once in a while especially if it is recommended by someone who loves movies like me. I hardly watch Nollywood movies, except few ones, and the Nollywood series that I love most is Jenifa’s diary, that series is epic, I love a lot of characters in that series from Jenifa herself to her sworn enemy Pelumi, and Adaku the “FFO(for food only)”, and then James the girlish guy. “Let me watch Jenifas diary” I said to myself. I just started episode 5 of season 6 when Kemi walked in. “Wassup Jasmine, what are you up too, am feeling so bored” she said as she jumped on my bed “Hey!!! Babe, don’t jump on my laptop o. Are you not the one that was eager to finish the exams ASAP, now the exam don finish, and boredom is your next complain” I said “Don’t mind me o, I didn’t know I will be this bored, but am happy the exams have ended o, my brain is almost exploding with too much cramming of formulas and equations” she ranted “Ok o, come and join me to watch film then, that is what I want to do just now” I said “You know I don’t like movies now, I prefer to watch football sef” she said hissing “It is Jenifas diary that I want to watch o” I added “Really! Which season?” she asked excited. Jenifas diary is the only movie I have seen Kemi watch, infact she loves it so much “Season 6” I replied “So you have season 6 already and you didn’t tell me, thank God I came at the right time, that is how you would have been enjoying it alone” she said “ You that you can’t do without talking loud when watching a movie, sha come and lets watch it together” I said reluctantly. I love watching movies alone, and Kemi is the last person you would want to watch a movie with, she will not stop making comments on every scene, and laughing out loud at the same time, she can so distract me.

We just finished watching two episodes when Kemi remembered she had a gist for me “Jasmine guess who I saw this afternoon when I went to buy pepper at Idia market downstairs” she said “Who did you see o, Madam. Did you see Jesus or who? This one you are this excited to gist me” I said “Not yet o, I never see Jesus. It was Samuel I saw downstairs” she added “Bro Samuel?” I asked “Yes o” she replied “Did he see you too? Or you dodged him?” I asked “Dodge ke, why will I dodge him. I went straight to him and before he could even say a word, I gave him a piece of my mind” she said “Hmmm, I trust you, madam Iron lady. So tell me what you told him” I asked “ I told him to never call or text you again in his God forsaken life, and I told him that all the pictures he took are now with us and that if he tries any rubbish again, then we will report him to the police or better still to the fellowship president” she explained “Come and see how he was gentle like a sheep, he just kept quiet” she added “Really! Wow!!! You are the bomb Kemi. Seriously if I was the one that saw him I could have dodged him, but now that you have scared the devil out of him, I think I have more confidence to face him if I meet him again, though I wish never to meet him again” I said “But what was he doing in front of our hostel in the first place, I hope it is not what I am thinking?” I asked “Exactly what you are thinking my dear, he came to visit a sister. I saw them together when I was heading back to the hostel “she replied “Is she someone I know, the sister she is meeting with” I asked “Yes you do, she is from our fellowship too, Sister Chinyere in evangelism group” she replied “Sister Chinyere in our faculty?” I asked to confirm “Exactly” she replied “I just hope this devil is not planning to make this sister a victim too. I think the fellowship needs to sound a note of warnings to sisters, sisters should not visit any brother alone for any just cause and brothers should not propose to any sister without informing the elders. I think this will help in a lot of ways, or what do you think?” I asked “I totally agree with you, even though I don’t like rules, but if such rules existed, it is possible that you might not have been a victim” she replied “So what do you think we should do” I asked “Do about what” she asked facing me “About Sister Chinyere of course, don’t you think we need to warn her or something?” I asked feeling concerned “How is that your business, and what exactly will you be warning her about self. Will you tell her that Samuel is a r@pist or what. Because if you do she will ask you how you know that, unless you want to share your experience with her” she said “Never, I can’t share my experience with anyone especially her. She talks too much, I doubt if a secret can last a day with her. I just think we should be our sister’s keeper that’s all” I said. “I will advise you to just keep calm and don’t say anything that will put you in trouble. The best thing we can do is too pray for her and any other person that he might have his eyes on, plus we are not even sure he is proposing to her yet, all this is just assumptions you know?” she explained “Ok if you say so. Let’s just pray that no one will fall a victim again and lets pray for Samuel too, he need Jesus” “Did I just hear you say pray for Samuel, pray ko praise ni. I will rather curse him” she said jokingly.

We continued watching our movie into the night, that is something about watching movies, you won’t want to stop until you finish it. It is such a time waster. I went home after two days, the break will be for just three weeks because it is a semester break not a section break. Everyone was excited to have me at home, especially my younger brother. He just finished his WAEC and was preparing for admission, being all alone with mum and dad made him miss me more.

Two weeks passed and I just wish the break can be extended, though I won’t be going back to school for the next semester because it will be a 6month SIWES for engineering student. Some of my classmates had started already, but I wanted to rest for a while before I start. I had applied to many companies mostly in Lagos and Portharcourt but I haven’t gotten any positive reply, I pray they will contact me soon. Have been feeling weak and feverish for almost two days now, I prescribed Paracetamol as for myself but am getting worse rather than improving, I was laying on my bed when my mum came in, she just returned from work. “Don’t tell me you are still on the bed Jasmine” she asked as she walked into my room “Am just feeling weak and tired per minutes mum” I replied. She went to the first aid box in the bathroom and came in with the thermometer. “Your temperature is 39°c. You need to go and see a doctor” she said “All the symptoms you have complained about is pointing to malaria, but let’s not do guess work, you need to go to the hospital first thing tomorrow morning, I will drop you off myself” she said “Plus you need to treat yourself properly before you go for your internship or SIWES as you guys call it” she added. “Ok mum, your wish is my command” I replied My dad agreed on the same thing when he also came back from work, so I have no choice. I hate it when am sick, and I hate to go to the hospitals more. I prayed I could just get better before the next morning so there will be no need for hospital, but my prayers were bounced backed.

The fever grew worse and vomiting was even added to the list of my problems before I woke up. Morning came, and my mum dropped me at the hospital, it is the hospital that our family use, I was even told my mum gave birth to me there, we have such a history. I saw the doctor after waiting for about 1hour for my turn, which is one thing I hate about hospitals. Thank God it wasn’t even more than 1hour, I have waited for four hours before. The doctor was new, this will be the first time I will be seeing him in the hospital, I had requested to see our family doctor Dr. Fayemi, but he was on a short leave.

“This new doctor isn’t bad I thought” he was young, probably in his middle 20s, dark and tall, and his smile was contagious too. He attended to me and asked me to go for some lab test, after which he told me to bring the result back to him. I had to wait for another 1 hour before it got to my turn for the test, and I was asked to come back after 4hours for the result. So I left the hospital and took a bike to my mum’s office few blocks away, though she promised to come and pick me up when I am done, but I can’t wait here for four hours. My mum and I went back after four hours, we collected the result and went to see the doctor again. The doctor opened it, looked into my eyes and said. “The result shows that your sugar level is okay, you have enough blood, and you also have malaria and you are also pregnant.
