Just The Beginning ?
Episode fourteen
Vee
” Hey vee, wake up, ” I hear someone call me from afar and am not sure if am dreaming or not.
I groan as i turn the other side, making myself more comfortable.
” Vee, wake up or you’ll be late for work. ”
Work!!
I wake up as quickly as i can and find Maya glaring at me. She’s still in her zebra printed pajamas and it looks like she just woke up.One look at her and I can tell she’s still upset with me.
” What time is it? ”
” It’s 6.27 am, ” she says and am off the bed and rushing to the bathroom.
What happened to my alarm?!
I stayed up most of last night crying myself silly. I was so overwhelmed by everything that happened that I only got to sleep in the early morning.
Am usually half done with my cleaning by now and am praying so hard that I don’t loose my job because of this.
After am done getting dressed, I call Angie my co worker hoping that she’s going to help me out.
I’ve helped her out alot in the two months that I’ve worked in the firm, since she’s a single mum and mostly gets to work late waiting for her nanny to arrive.
” Morning Angie. ”
” Morn vee, what’s up.”
” Am kind of late today and I need you to cover for me,” I say grabbing my shoes.
” Am sorry vee but that is impossible right now. ”
” What?! why? ” I ask waving at the girls and out the door I go.
” Sammy is sick today and am not going to work. I already called in sick, am sorry I can’t help you. ”
” It’s okay, I hope Sammy gets well soon, bye. ”
” Bye. ”
I hang up and stop a taxi hopping in. The next bus will be here at seven and there was no way I’d wait that long.
” You are almost an hour late! ” That’s Cherry the receptionist.
” Am sorry. ”
” Just make sure you are done by eight before the bosses get here, ” she says and I nod rushing to the dressing room to change my clothes.
I start cleaning as fast as possible and within an hour am done.
” Violet wait ,” Cherry calls out walking towards me as about to return the cleaning equipments. ” Am really sorry I forgot to tell you this, but since Angela isn’t in today you are going to have to clean the main office. You only have twenty minutes to do it before the she devil gets here. ”
” What she devil? ” i ask curiously.
” There’s no time to answer that question right now, get going, ” she says and I leave heading to the office.
Wow! I can’t help but gasp when I walk in the office. I’ve actually never been here before and my mouth is wide open as i look around awed by the beauty of my surrounding. The office is actually bigger than my one bedroom apartment. Who would need an office this huge?!
The ornaments and furniture are all modern, in black and white colours.
There’s a huge black leather couch at the end of the room and a glass table, which looks extremely expensive. There’s also a large glass window that views the city and it’s so dmn amazing!
As soon as am done studying the place I get to work and as am busy cleaning, I hear a soft knock on the door and a lady walks in. She seems young with light blonde hair pulled up in a conservative bun. Her black executive suit fits her nicely making her look smart, very professional and yet so gorgeous.
She’s kind of surprised to find me here and the way she’s looking at me makes me want to run and hide in a corner.
” What are you doing here? ” The lady asks her eyes travelling from my head to my toes.” Aren’t you supposed to be done already? ”
” Am almost done ma’am. ”
” You are supposed to be done not almost done! Get out of this office right now, you are fired ,” she shouts pointing at the door.
” What?! My heart is beating very fast and i suddenly feel cold. I really can’t afford to lose this job.
” Am really sorry, just give me five minutes and I’ll be done, ” I say my eyes pleading.
” Are you deaf or something? I said leave! ” she yells, this time louder than before.
A cold sweat rans down my spine and I have a feeling of fear mixed with nervousness.
This is a nightmare!
How am I going to find another job? Many companies prefer college graduates and unfortunately, I never even graduated high school. I was lucky enough to get this job and now I just lost it.
” Please ma’am, I really need this job, ” i decide to plead one more time. ” I have a little sister to take care of, please dont fire me. ”
” You should have thought about that before coming to work late. Now leave before I call security, ” she says angrily and I start walking out of the office.
Before am out, Cherry walks in and we almost bump into each other.
” Am sorry to walk in like this Ma’am Merghan, but it isn’t her fault. The person assigned to clean the office called in sick today and I asked her to do it last minute,” Cherry says nervously, trying to save me.
” Oh really? In that case you only have ten minutes, ” she says walking out.
” Thank you so much Cherry, you don’t know what you just did for me.”
” No need to thank me, it was my fault anyways. You better finish off before she comes back, ” Cherry says and I nod getting back to work.
Am done within the ten minutes and as am walking out, i see a familiar face talking to Merghan.
It’s Stacy!
What is she doing here? Is it really a coincidence that I also saw Alex in the same building or does he maybe own the place?
” Could he be my boss?!!
No way, if he was the boss I’d probably be fired by now, that am sure of.
I never got to see her clearly at the club and now that am looking at her, I am amazed by how beautiful she is.
I stare at her for a few seconds, studying her facial features and I wonder why a beautiful woman like her would ever fight over a man.
Looking like that, I bet she’d get any man she sets her sight on.
Suddenly, her head turns and she catches me, staring at her. Her eyes are like laser beams scanning my appearance, up and down.
” What the hell are you staring at? Don’t you have work to do? ” She asks very rudely.
She sure does have a bad attitude! she and Alex are definitely the perfect match.
” Am sorry, I just wanted to inform Ma’am Merghan that am done. ” Am a nervous wreck right now. I hope Merghan doesn’t fire me again because of this.
” Whatever, just leave, ” Meghan says and I heave a sigh as I walk away.
” What a long day, ” I tell cherry stretching my hands.Am all ready to go home and sleep the whole day.
” What day? ” Cherry says shaking her head. ” It’s only eight in the morning! ”
” I know but to me, it feels like an entire day. ”
” That’s what happens when you cross paths with the she devil. ”
” So Merghan is the she devil? ”
” Yeah, she has a very bad attitude and thinks owns the place, since she’s dating the owner. ”
” What? ”
” It’s true, this is not any office gossip vee. I’ve actually heard them banging in his office, several times. I mean, they are so shameless! What happened to not mixing business with pleasure, huh? “Cherry says rolling her eyes .
” Well, okay…. I don’t know what to say right now. ”
” Don’t worry, you’ll get used to all this office drama soon enough. ”
” Okay, I have to go now, and thank you again for what you did. I’d be jobless right now if it wasn’t for you. ”
” Don’t mention it, ” she smiles. ” And please don’t be late again. ”
” I wont, ” I say turning to leave.
I walk out slowly heading to the bus stop as i sigh in relief. The day had started off very badly, but thank God everything turned out okay.
Am really sleepy and the only thing I can think about now is my comfortable bed, and how I can’t wait to sleep on it.
In about twenty minutes, am home and what I see when I walk on almost makes my jaw drop!
