MAMA, I MADE IT!?
Episode 24.

Living in school made things so easier for me, somehow I was scared Charity may start giving me attitude staying with her, but I was wrong, we got to be more close than ever before.
I got to visit my mom after a week because of the doctor advice and she told me something that almost made me stormed into my dad house.
“Purity I’m afraid your mother was injected with drugs. I’m familiar with what I’m seeing and I think it has affected even her speech, Success mom said.
“What! You mean the hospital did this for what reason? I thought their work was to safe lives and not to make them worse! I shouted.
“Calm down, now i understand why your mom is scared. Whenever we get into her room she cries so terrified that we have to calm her down first.
But don’t worry she will be fine, my colleagues are working on something for her, she said and I covered my head too Angry to voice out.
Lectures began to be too hectic that I found it difficult to reach home to see if my little properties are in order or to travel to the city to visit my mom anymore.
Success took the pains of video calling anytime he visits her so I can see her face.
She still had this sober mode that got me worried and kept asking if she will ever be okay, looks like whatever drugs they were giving her was really telling on her, but I had to trust Success and his mom that she is in safe hands.
Months later it was my birthday again, surprisingly Success sent me a birthday text and called that morning.
“How did you know? I asked.
“Remember I bought you a cake last time so I saved the date. So tell me, are you still going to ignore it like your last? he asked.
“That’s a big yes and I don’t want to celebrate it at all, I replied.
“Purity can you…… ‘I appreciate your call trust me, but please let’s not talk about it, I cut in and he heaved on phone.
“Wishing you many more years, he slowly said.
“Thank you, I said and dropped the call.
Charity was still sleeping and I sighed to start preparing for school, but this time Charity refused I wave it off like I did to my last birthday after the embarrassment I got from my friends.
She even arranged a party in the hostel without my knowledge on that day and pretended to be sick,
“Charity your tricks won’t work on me today, I know you’re not sick liar, i said checking her temperature.
“Purity should I call my dad before you believe me? I’m having serious waist pain and besides you can cover up for me na, she said and I looked at her trying to believe her.
“Fine take your rest and I’ll get you drugs when I’m coming back, I said.
“Awn thank you birthday girl, she said.
“Just shut up, I said not wanting to hear that and I left.
When I returned I saw a surprise party for me and Charity was just bouncing well holding a cake for me,
“Why are you so stubborn? I asked not knowing what I should feel,
“Safe yourself the strength and be happy on your day girl, common its a one in a year thing don’t ruin it, she said and I cleaned the tears that dropped and hugged the girls there.
I cut the cake with them and had a call from Alfred,
“Hi, i picked up.
“If you’re done with the girls birthday girl I’m just outside waiting for you, he said and i looked at Charity who gave me that naughty look.
“Okay I’ll be there, I said and dropped the call.
“Madam you even told him? I asked her.
“Yes he kind of found out by himself, madam go in and change up na abi you wan go like that? Charity asked.
“Is it your going like that? Crazy girl, I said and went inside to change up and excused Charity from the girls,
“Please keep a piece for my mom and Success, I think I’ll be visiting her tomorrow, I whispered in her ears.
“Sure I will, she said and I waved at the girls and left.
I was so surprised to see Alfred well dressed despite I saw him few minutes ago in class so simple, looks like he ran to the hostel and changed up.
“So you knew after all? I asked him.
“Yea but I wanted to remain calm as planned, he replied and I nodded.
“You guys are good in planning, I hope i won’t get sold one day in the plan, I said and he smiled as we strolled.
“So where to? I asked.
“We are going out, he replied.
“Around the school premises? I asked.
“No way, outside, he said taking my hand and i rolled my eyes.
We got to an eatery and made our orders,
“This should be my birthday outing right? Thanks, i said to him while eating.
“Not just an outing, but call it a date, he said.
“You didn’t ask me out on a date did you? So I won’t call this a date, i said and he looked at me and brought out a wristwatch.
“Happy birthday, he said and i smiled taking it from him.
“Its so beautiful thank you, I said giving him a hug but he held me for a kss instead and I drew back.
“What was that? I asked surprised by that move.
“What’s wrong with it Purity? Haven’t I proved myself to be a good friend? What else do you want from me? He asked and i scoffed.
“What exactly are you saying? I asked him.
“Can’t you date me already? People are thinking you’re my girlfriend and you……. “You told them that not I, but you know what we only have is friendship i made that clear from the start. You’ve been a good friend i won’t doubt that, but i think we should remain that way, I cut in.
“Bullshit! And why? So you can go meet that guy with four wheels huh? He asked.
“Success is just a friend same as you are, I said.
“Oh you know that is a big lie! I can see that you love him and you just proved it now, I was there first Purity I was there! He shouted and I stood up to leave not ready for the argument he’s setting in but he drew me back.
“You know we are good together right? He asked.
“As friends yes, but being intimate i think its a bad idea, stop thinking about it Alfred, i said and left immediately quite embarrassed with the people looking at us already with the way he acted.
I called up Charity to meet me up somewhere with the cake she wrapped,
“Are you going to your mom today? She asked.
“Yea i changed my mind, i think I should be with her on this day and tomorrow i just remembered we have a very important practical so please hurry up, i said.
“Okay okay, she said and i dropped the call and called up Success,
“Hi,you didn’t invite me for the party huh? He asked immediately he picked up.
“Charity arranged for it without my knowledge but I’m on my way going to see my mom, I replied.
“Are you serious? But its past 2pm, you know very well you will get back late don’t you? He asked.
“Yes sir so I’ll be there, I replied.
“Alright, see you soon, he said and i dropped the call and waited for Charity……
I arrived at the hospital and saw my mom sitting at the side of her room, when she saw me coming she ran and hugged me tight.
“I’ve missed you so much, and guess what, its your daughter birthday today, I said cleaning her face and i saw sadness in her eyes which i quickly made her sit.
“I brought this for you, I said bringing out the cake and the juice I bought on the road to her, and just then Success arrived.
“Ahhhh I came at the right Time, he said.
“Yes indeed, i said giving him his share.
“Thank you, and happy birthday once again, he said.
“Thank you, I said and touched my mom and fed her. We talked and played together taking pictures, and I saw it was getting late and i have to go. But we noticed my mom didn’t struggle to follow me home like she always do anytime I visit, She quietly let me go and i slowly left with Success,
“What do you think? I asked him.
“Good Sign i guess, he replied and i smiled.
“Has she made an attempt to talk? I’m more concerned about that part, i said but he was quiet and i knew he was Hiding something from me.
“What are you not telling me? I thought friends should be open always with each other, i said and he heaved.
“I know that, but there are Some things that should be kept untold so that friends wont worry, he said holding me on my shoulders but i took his hands off.
“What are you not telling me about my mother? I have the right to know, I asked so seriously.
“Purity you should know better as a medical student, I’m not used to you guys terms but all i can say is that your mom brain is not in a very good condition…….how should i put it?
okay The drugs given to her affected some cells or nerve……. How do you guys call it? That aids her in speaking, I don’t know if she will ever talk again after all this years with what my mom told me and she didn’t want to tell you this either, Success tried explaining while i stood looking at him in tears and i slowly bent down trying to hold myself while he held me up.
“I don’t still understand why you are stopping me from getting that hospital sued despite you have the prove of what they did to my mother! I shouted.
“For how many years? How will you start such a case? What if the said doctor is dead, transferred or retired? Look its not as simple as it seems, let’s try to get your mom well first, he said.
“And then what? She remains dumb for life? Do you know how i long to hear my mom speak to me? There’s so many questions i need to ask her but i can’t, because there will be no answer to it at all, it hurts, i said and he hugged me.
“I understand but you have to be strong for her, i won’t let you go today. Tomorrow early in the morning you’ll take off because its late and your mood isn’t encouraging at all, he said but I didn’t have the strength to answer or tell him no. I slowly got into his car and he drove off………
