?Elizabeth pov?

*Three months later*

Three months had already gone by, for the first time I feel like my life is finally a breath of fresh air.

I work part-time at one of my dad’s retail offices and it pays well too. Dad made sure it fit with my school and study schedule.

I remember when I first told Dad I was pregn.ant, I still remember the conversion.

“Dad, I’m pregnant,” I said nervously.

“Wow, honey! I’m so happy for you.” He said, “Even though I’m still too young to be a grandfather.” He whispered.

“Dad! You’re fifty-eight.” I said.

“We had you when your grandfather was eighty.” He laughed. “Mr Greene is going to be so happy.” He said.

“I was hoping you wouldn’t tell them,”

“Why not? I don’t see why I shouldn’t. Unless you are pregnant for that small boy who tried to kill you, in that case, I have to find my shotgun. I thought he was decent when he first came to our house.”

“No dad, I’d just rather tell them myself.”

“Okay sweetheart,”

“And mom too,” I said.

“Now this is ridiculous, she’s your mother.”

“I will tell her, eventually. I don’t want her to end up posting it on social media or worse die of a heart attack because of what her scandalous friends will say.”

“You have a point, but when you finally tell her, I knew nothing all along.”

” I hope it’s a boy so I can inherit all my money plus I can finally teach him manly stuff. Not that I could do that with you”

“Well then, prepare to be disappointed,” I hung up.

Dad also told me about what happened to Charles. I still can’t believe she lied about being pregnant, didn’t she think people would find out eventually. Charles must have been devastated. Although a part of me is glad that it happened. It gave me a second shot at happiness. And then there’s the other part of me that wants to run back to him.

In my new sitting room, sitting beside me was Andrew. He’s a new friend and a gynaec0logist in training.

“Isn’t it ironic that he is in a job where he has to look at female gen!tals all day even though he’s into the opposite?” Samantha always says.

Yes, he’s g@y.

He’s here because he is supposed to help me study but right now the only thing he was ‘helping’ with was Keeping up with the Kardashians. He’s the reason why every night at eight p.m I have to turn the tv on to watch Keeping up with the Kardashians, once you get into it, it’s more addicting than you think.

“Babe, are you listening to me?” Andrew said.

“Yes,” I said bringing me out of my thoughts.

He rolled his eyes. He was already used to it, I was always lost in my thought.

For some reason since the first day we met, he always calls me babe.

“I’ll be in my room for a bit, I’m going to take a nap,” I announced.

“But the movie started in ten minutes,” He whined. “We’ve been waiting for a month.”

By ‘We’ he meant he.

“Okay,” I said defeatedly.

I was hoping for a way out. In case you wondering, it’s not a movie. It’s a six-hour documentary on wildlife in Madagascar.

“I’ll make the popcorn,” he said jumping off the couch.

He rushed into the kitchen. I could hear the sound of pots and knives being slammed into each other. I wonder what he was doing, all he had to do was put the packet in the microwave for a few minutes.

”’Bing bong!”‘ the doorbell rang.

I thought about yelling for Andrew to open the door but he was already singing the Hannah Montana theme song on top of his lungs.

I dragged my feet to the door. I opened the door expecting to see the pizza delivery guy with pizza Andrew ordered thirty minutes ago (the traffic is really bad here) or the postman with my new mail from the University. Once again I was wrong, I should have known the answer was much simpler than that.

It was Charles looking at me with eyes wide open in shock as if he had seen his dead grandmother alive. He has a tendency of showing up where he is not wanted.

“Elizabeth!” He said.

“Charles,” I whispered.

He continued to stare at me. I didn’t know whether I should welcome him in, pull him into a hug or put a restraining order on him.

“I’ve been looking for you. It wasn’t easy finding you.” He said.

He looked at me then down at my belly, my fat four months pregn.ant belly.

“You’re pregn@nt,” He said. He said it slowly it was almost as if he was looking for the ‘right’ words to say.

I closed the door behind me not wanting Andrew to overhear anything.

“Yes,” I said.

“When are you going to tell me?” He said. A smile grew on his face.

“It’s not…” I began.

But he interrupted me before I was finished.

“Enough about that. How are you, how is the baby.” He just kept bringing up more questions not giving me time to explain or to answer.

“Babe!” Andrew yelled.

Charles and I both turned to look at the door. Andrew opened the door with my face in bright pink as if I had just been caught red-handed.

“Babe, how many times have I told you to take it easy. You shouldn’t stand on your feet for too long. It’s not good for the baby.” Andrew said in an attempt to stroke my belly.

He looked directly at me. He hadn’t noticed Charles in front of us.

“Let’s get you inside,” He said stroking my back.

“Andrew this is Charles,” I said.

Only then had Andrew noticed Charles. “Hello,” Andrew said.

Charles looked at me puzzled.

“I see why you never told me now,” Charles said. His expression had suddenly gone straight. “I hope you two are happy. Congratulations on the baby by the way.” He said. He gave me half a smile, but even in his smile, I could feel the sadness in it.

Charles assumed that Andrew and I were together and that he was the father of the baby. I didn’t blame him though, we had just given him all the reasons he needed to assume that. After all, Andrew wasn’t the kind of a man you take one look at then decide he was gay.

I watched as he walked away out of the gate. I didn’t stop him, because for once, I wanted to be selfish for my happiness.

“What’s wrong with him?” Andrew muttered.

“Let’s go in,” I said.

If I had to take one more look at him I would fall apart.

Andrew led the two of us into the house.

_______________

“Are you sure you’ll be alright?” Andrew asked tucking me into bed.

“Yes,” I replied.

“Call me if you need anything.” He said.

He blew a kiss at me before leaving.

I still felt guilty about what happened with Charles earlier although a part of me felt I did the right thing.

I fell into a deep slumber.

*~~~*

”’Bing bong!”‘ the doorbell rang.

”’Bing bong!”‘ It continued.

At first, I felt like I was still sleeping until I was completely awake.

I pushed the blankets off of my body then made my way to the door. I looked at my watch to see that it was already eight p.m.

I opened the door to see a smirking Nick with a box of pizza in hand.

‘Couldn’t these boys give me a break’ I said mentally.

“What are you doing here?” I asked.

“Aren’t you going to let me in?” He said.

“I asked you a question.”

“Is that how you treat your brother-in-law. You and Charles are still married.

I rolled my eyes then opened the door allowing him in.

“Must be the hormones,” He muttered.

He took a seat on the couch then opened the box of pizza and took a slice out.

“Care for some?” He asked.

I shook my head no.

“So what are you doing here?” I asked.

“I haven’t even eaten,” He said.

I sat on the opposite couch. For some reason, I was starting to feel like a guest in my own (fathers) house. I glared at him hoping it would make him feel uncomfortable and leave.

For some reason I felt pissed off at him, maybe it was because he reminded me too much of Charles. As he said, h0rmones.

“It’s creepy to stare at people Elizabeth. Didn’t your mother teach you not to stare at people while they eating?”

“So you here to insult me,” I said.

“What happened to you? You used to be a lot nicer,” he said.

He whipped his hands with a paper towel then crossed his legs. “Anyway, I’m here because of a suspicion I had, after seeing you it confirmed it.”

“Meaning?” I said.

“I saw something in your trash cans that took my interest.

“You looked through my trash cans? And I thought I was creepy.”

I hope it wasn’t the bloody knife I stabbed Erik with.

“Like they say if you want to get to know someone look through there trash.”

No one says that!

“It still doesn’t explain why you here.”

“I saw a pregnancy test, five of them. Woman don’t just by those without suspicion. I wanted to make sure.”

I exhaled deeply glad it wasn’t the knife.

“You just found out I’m pregnant, are you happy now?”

“My brother doesn’t know, does he? Does he know you carrying his child.”

“Are you threatening me?” I asked.

“No, relax.”

“It could be someone else’s child,” I said nervously.

“So he doesn’t know. Good, I hope he never finds out either.”
