As soon as she got to her room, she opened the door to see Jeff standing in front of the mirror attached to the dresser in their room and staring at himself while leaning forward with both hands against the table like he was trying to kiss his reflection. “Is everything okay?”
She asked walking towards him, he ignored her and continued to stare at the mirror, “what’s
wrong?” She asked placing her hand on his shoulder, almost immediately, he moved his shoulder and let her hand fall to the table not
minding whether she would get hurt or not. She couldn’t think of any reason why he was acting so strange, he had never been this cold
towards her in a long while; she tried to remember if she did anything to offend him earlier before he left for work but the only thing she could remember was him kissing her and
reminding her that he loved her like he did everyday before he left the house.
“Please tell me what I’ve done wrong, your silence is killing me” she begged.
“The company has just asked me to leave” he finally said after heaving a huge sigh. “What???” She screamed in shock, “why would
they ask you to do that? What happened?” She
asked. “They said they can’t afford to pay for my services anymore, apparently my salary is too much for them all of a sudden” he replied with a hint of sarcasm. “But why would they ask you of all people to leave?” She asked feeling concerned, “isn’t there anyway we can negotiate with them? You know, even if it means you forfeit your benefits” she asked, she didn’t mind if they took away the health
insurance and travel allowances or all other amazing benefits, she just needed to know he
had a job.
“Company policy doesn’t allow that” he said shaking his head dejectedly as he crashed on the bed with his back, arms wide open, staring at the ceiling.
