Episode 22
He barely managed to put his shirt on before the door swung open and sure enough it was Lara, she held the door open with one hand and while battling with the heavy luggage in the other; he rushed to meet her at the door before she entered, hoping to buy more time for Lola to get dressed and tidy up the living room. “Wow! What a surprise” He said hugging her, “I wasn’t expecting you back till next week” he added, “I know” she said giving him a peck on the lips, I just wanted to surprise you. Happy Anniversary” she added with a smile, “being married to you has been a dream come true” she said, “oh! I totally forgot it was our anniversary today” he replied looking surprised, “happy anniversary” he said hugging her again, feeling even more guilty. “Boy, you’re sweating so much” she said noticing how sweaty he was “and you’re wearing your t-shirt the wrong way round” she added pointing to his t-shirt which he had wrongly worn back to front in the process of hurrying to get dressed, ” oh!” He exclaimed turning red as he looked down at his t-shirt, “I had no idea that I did that” he stammered, “I was actually doing my work out when I heard the knock but it was the sound of the key turning in the hole that made me rush to put on my t-shirt because I wanted to find out who it was” he lied, “I panicked a little because I wasn’t expecting you home, I thought someone was breaking into our house” he continued, “Hmm! Wonders will never end” she laughed, “since when did you start working out?” She asked curiously, “since you left” he replied, “trying to get that sexy body for you” he replied with a wink, “oh! Yeah?” She asked giving him a playful punch, “common! Let’s go inside” she said motioning for them to go in, Jeff kept his fingers crossed hoping that the few minutes they would spent outside had been enough time for Lola to tidy up; luckily for him, Lara couldn’t see the living room and by the time they entered, she had tidied up the couch and gone upstairs to her room.
Lara didn’t suspect a thing. He heaved a sigh of relief under his breath, he wasn’t prepared for what might have happened if she actually found out. Still very much in the anniversary mood, Lara requested that they all go out for dinner to mark the occasion, but Lola declined, “You have to come” Lara insisted, “you’re part of our little family too” she added, Lola didn’t want to come, she was already getting jealous seeing Lara dote on Jeff and wasn’t ready to go through more of the torture but since Lara insisted she had no other choice than to fake a smile and tag along.
She tried not to look when Lara and Jeff shared a kiss during dinner because it hurt to see Jeff so happy to be with her, anyone could see that he truly loved her, she hated feeling like she was just a mere alternative.
