Lara was escorted back to Aunty Fanny’s place by inspector Bankole, they were greeted at the door by Aunty Fanny, “I’m so sorry dear” she said giving Lara a hug, “I’m sure it must’ve been really difficult for you seeing his lifeless body” “It was” Lara replied, “I need to get some rest now” she said walking past Aunty Fanny to the guest room. “Thanks for bringing her home” she said turning to face inspector Bankole, “I guess you should be taking your leave now” “Not exactly ma” inspector Bankole replied, “I need to take Lola back with me, she is wanted at the station for further interrogation” “Further interrogation? Why?” Aunty Fanny questioned, “hasn’t she given her statement already?” “She has but there’s a new development” Inspector Bankole replied, “what new development?” Aunty Fanny asked, “Lola is now a suspect” inspector Bankole replied, “suspect? For what?” Aunty Fanny asked looking confused, “suspect for the murder of Mr Balogun” inspector Bankole replied,“You don’t know what you’re saying. How can you call that innocent girl a suspect?”“Mrs. Balogun gave us some information that points her out as a suspect” he replied, “Lara? Is she alright at all?” Aunty Fanny said, “please disregard anything she says, she’s not thinking straight at the moment” Aunty Fanny advised, “I’m afraid I can’t the DPO has requested I bring her now”
***“Do you think Mrs. Balogun’s allegations may be right?” the DPO asked inspector Jaja after Lara had left with inspector Bankole, “she may not be far from the truth, I’ve been thinking myself, why did Lola not come to the police station after discovering something fishy was going on? Why did she have to wait till Madam Fanny called us before speaking out if she really wasn’t hiding something?” inspector Jaja replied,“You have a point there and she seemed tobe reluctant to disclose the information about her escapades with Mr. Balogun, she might actually have a hand in his murder” the inspector general reasoned within himself. “Let’s wait and see what she says when she comes. The coroner’s report is also on it’s way and I can’t wait to wrap up this case.” the DPO said.
Their discussion was suddenly interrupted by a knock at the door followed by a police officer walking in, “the coroner is waiting to see you sir” “Speak of the devil” the DPO said, please let him in. “Okay sir! I’ll do that right away” the officer replied. “Good day sir! Please sit” the DPO replied offering the coroner a seat, “Good day” he greeted sitting, “I have the autopsy report here with me”“That’s great! What did you find?” the DPO asked, “he died from exsanguination” the coroner announced, “what does that mean?” the DPO asked, “it means he bled to death” the coroner explained, “he was stabbed multiple times in the abdomen; somehow the murderer got his liver, it was badly damaged.
