The coaching centre was owned by Mr Bolaji and the subject i handle is Economics,
mathematics and further maths. Mr Bolaji said
he will be paying me N3,500 every month and
my class is suppose to be four times in a
week to take my subjects.
It was already a month i started my coaching
class and i didn’t hear from my parent, my
thought was always with them as i knew they
would have been worried that i didn’t come
home for holiday. It was even December and
they are so sure that even if school was still
in section, they will definitely give us Xmas
break but i didn’t show at home. Our resumption was third week in February of 2004.
In other not to put fear in my parents heart, i
decided to visit home first week of January 2014.
My mum was so happy to see me, Nimat was
already in SSS3 and it was a serious family
bonding. I was still my usual self and my dad
was so proud of me that i didn’t go to school
and change. This time around, its not only that
my trouser was not touching ground but i had
grown beards. My beards had grown so big
that my dad was even surprise when he saw me compare to how i was the last time. I was told Zainab my sister has already
started her HND in Federal Polytechnic Offa, i
was so happy to be back home and it was a
surprise to my dad when i told him i will be
leaving in a week…he asked the reason why i
wont be staying and i told him that i hold a
position in MSSN and as he knows, it requires
a lot of commitment to the work of God for us
to reap the reward in earth and life after. He
asked about my academics and i told him i
was in strong first class, my dad was so elated.
My Dad understands my commitment because
from the story he told us way back then, he
was a treasurer in ABU Zaria when he was
also in the university. My one week at home
was over and i was suppose to go back on
Sunday, I went for a visit to Ismaeel parent
and told them that he sent his greeting and
his doing so well but i was surprised when his
dad gave me a brand new Nokia 3510 and sim card to give to Ismaeel for proper communication. They gave me food stuff and i reminded them of our accommodation fee.
I came home later in the afternoon and
showed my dad what Ismaeel parent got for
him. Later in the evening on Saturday while
we were eating in the sitting room, my dad
brought out his bag and handed over a small black nylon to me (Toromagbe). I opened it and what i saw was a big surprise, my dad also bought me a small Phillip phone.
I knew he doesn’t have much money at his
disposal and i was forced to asked why he
had to sq££ze himself to get me a phone. He
said he purposely get the phone to me so that
i wont feel inferior to Ismaeel since he now
has a phone and he wouldn’t want anything to
disturb my mind that will later affect my academics.
Me: you shouldn’t have sq££ze yourself like
this daddy
Dad: Let me do it for you now so that, i will be
able to enjoy more in future
Me: Ahh..dad, but you no payment of our
house rent is next month
Dad: Almighty Allah will provide my son
Me: But i would have been managing Ismaeel
phone with him
Dad: What you don’t know is that, this thing is
mine is far better than this thing is ours..will
you boys divide the phone into two when
Ismaeel is going for classes or you will drop it
at home as a landline? The phone belongs to
Ismaeel and there is no way you guys can
share it together
Me: Thanks very much daddy..Almighty Allah
will reward you abundantly.
Dad: Aminna ya Allah..lets i forget, which
bank is closer to you there
Me: Non yet but most of the banks are
available in Post office and challenge
Dad: Maybe when you get to school tomorrow,
you will need to go and open account in
Oceanic bank and send me the account
number once they open the account for you
so that we can always send me money and
also send the money for our accommodation to me
Me: okay Sir……
I opened the phone, inserted my sim card and
recharged it with the recharge card my daddy
bought for me. I collected his number, my
mummy’s own and zainab number. Zainab was
a bit jealous that my dad bought me a phone
but didn’t buy for her. She complained that
she used her own money to purchased her
own phone and it was like a partial (playfully).
