PAST MISTAKES: Episode 11 – 20

Past Mistakes

Chapter Seventeen

“Don’t flirt with Kane.” Ares said curtly the moment we were outside Mr. Niarchos’ room. His eyes were flat and filled with dislike.

“Excuse me?” I was puzzled by his sudden change of mood.

“I saw your eyes glowed when you talked to him.” He snapped at me again.

“What are you talking about? I was just being nice. He’s your cousin…”

“You’re too nice!” He walked towards the dining room and I followed him. We were going to have our lunch.

“Oh, so that’s not allowed?”

He stopped in mid stride and turned. “Are you blind? Can’t you see he’s flirting with you? He finds you attractive.”

Well, that’s flattering. I said to myself.

“What if he does? It doesn’t mean that I’m going to hop on bed with him.”

“Do that and I’m going to kill both of you.” His eyes were dark and stony with anger. Then he turned and continued walking towards the dining room.

He pulled a chair in the dining table for me and I sat down.

“Why are you not wearing any shoes?”

“Um… My feet are sore. I forgot to bring my other shoes. I only brought the high heeled stilettos I’ve been using.

I was caught off guard when he suddenly knelt and took my feet.

His fingers were warm and strong as he grasped my feet. He traced my bruised tenderly. I had a wildest urge to jump back. His touch was so electrifying, ignited the sleeping nerves of my body.

“We’ll go shopping after lunch.” He said while giving sensuous massage on my feet.

I nodded, not trusting myself to speak. What he was doing to my feet made me feel breathless.

Oh God… Ares. What are you doing to me…

I stared at his face. He was a very handsome man despite of his scar. I couldn’t help it. He was so disturbing to me… in every way.

I started falling for him again. I was powerless to resist. His eyes, so compelling… his lips, so sensual… his body, I want to worship… his voice, affected me so deeply… and his nearness made my senses spin.

Oh God, help me. What is wrong with me? Why am I feeling this way?

“Ares.”

He looked up and saw his eyes burning with desire.

“Rachel.”

He was moving towards me, closer… and closer…

“Hey, what’s going on?” I jerked up when I heard Kane.

Ares stood up and sat down beside me. “Rachel’s feet are sore.”

“What happened?” Kane asked then sat down on a chair, opposite to where Ares was sitting.

“Wearing too much killer heels.” Ares replied.

The three of us had lunch. I just listened to them talking, mostly about business.

“So how long have you been married?” Kane asked.

My eyes widened. I looked at Ares and he looked at me.

“Seven years.” Ares answered.

“That long huh?” Kane smiled, wiping his lips with the table napkin. “Actually, I didn’t know that you got married. I was surprised you didn’t invite me. I’m the closest relative you’ve got.”

Closest relative Ares got.

Meaning, Kane was the one mentioned in the will, as the closest relative to inherit the Niarchos’ fortune if Ares and I got divorced.

I noticed Ares suddenly got so tensed. “It was sudden. We couldn’t wait to get married. There was no time to invite everyone.”

“Well… that must be love!” Kane exclaimed. I didn’t like the way he said it. Like he knew something but refraining himself from saying it. “So you decided to get back together.” He continued.

“Yeah. As you’ve said, that’s love.” Ares sipped his wine.

“Really? You’re unbelievable, Ares.” He smirked. “Do you know about the accident, Rachel?” Kane faced me.

“Um… yeah, of course… I…” I was stammering. He made me nervous asking questions about my relationship with Ares.

Is he doubting my relationship with Ares? I think he does. He would prove that Ares and I were not really back together so he could inherit the Niarchos fortune.

“Whatever Rachel and I went through in the past, we settled it already. What is important is now. We’re back together.” Ares covered my hand then lacing my fingers with his. Palm to palm… the gentle massage and rubbing sent currents of desire through me.

“And… and… we love each other.” I said proudly.

Ares immediately focused his eyes on me. His eyes glowed and blazed like fire.

I didn’t know what came over me, but I felt like I have to back Ares up. A sudden instinct deep inside me told me so.

After lunch, I was left with Kane in the balcony talking. Ares was in his grandfather’s study room, making an important phone call.

“Ares suffered a lot during the accident. I was in New York when it happened.” He shook his head. “I couldn’t look at him. He was covered with his own blood. I thought he was going to die.”

I felt cold all of a sudden. Imagining what Ares went through made me feel so guilty and miserable. Partly, it was my fault. He wouldn’t be rushing to Dallas if I haven’t left him.

“But he’s a fighter. It’s a miracle that he survived.”

I was speechless. My heart fell hearing again about Ares. It started to sink in now… what he went through… my fault…

I gasped when I was suddenly lifted off my feet.

It was Ares.

“Come on, let’s go shopping.” He held me tightly in his arms.

I instantly put my arms around his neck. It felt like it was the natural thing to do.

“I’m ready.” I said.

“Good.” Ares nodded in approval, then he faced Kane. “We’ll see you later, Kane.”

“Sure. Have fun.”

Ares took his Ferrari and we went to Ermou, Athens main shopping street and contained many of the big International names like Benneton, Marks & Spencer, H&M, Zara, Berksha, Sepura.

On our way there, he told me about the beautiful sites of Athens. The Acropolis, the Parthenon, Ancient Agora and others. I just listened to him… and kept staring at him. It was a long travel, about forty five minutes.

Our first stop was in a ladies shoes store. Ares helped me fit different type of shoes. In the end, I bought a pair of sneakers, sandals and slippers. I decided to wear my new pair of sandals.

“You have a beautiful feet.” He said.

“Thank you.” I replied. “And thank you for paying the shoes.”

“My pleasure.” He took my hand and I allowed him to touch me.

Together, hand in hand we went to the different shops. Window shopping. He offered me to buy clothes, bags and anything I wanted, but I told him that I had enough things. I just wanted to look around.

I got tired of walking, so we went to a coffee shop. We started talking, like we’ve just met. He told me about the Niarchos business. The company’s project and so on. I could see how much he loved their business and how devoted he was. He told me about his life, growing up without his parents, his life in school and college. I was surprised how independent he was. He learned to live alone.

“If my pappous will die, nobody will care about me.”

“No. Of course many will care for you. Your parents, your friends… your relatives.”

He shook his head. “They don’t care.”

“I care.” I said, reaching for his hand on the table.

“Is that the truth?”

“Of course.” I replied.

He held my hand and slowly lifted it to his lips. He k!ssed my knuckles… then his lips moved to my palm. Oh God… it made all my senses in riot.

“Ares.”

His eyes held mine and its pupils dilated, turned darker with desire. “I love it when you say my name. So s*xy… ” He drawled then k!ssing my palm with too much passion. The warm of his breathe, the moist of his k!ss, the touch of his tongue created delicious sensation… making me so…

“Come on, Rachel.” His invitation was a passionate challenge and so hard to resist. I knew it was an invitation to sin. But I couldn’t take it anymore. I wanted his lips on mine. Desperately. I stood up and sat on his lap and, k!ssed him.

His lips met mine instantly. He was k!ssing me hungrily and deeply. His mouth so warm and moist, tasted so sweet and bitter. His tongue explored the recesses of my mouth… sending shivers of desire in my body.

I was on fire. My body was feverish… burning… flaming… like I was in hell. I didn’t care anymore if I turned into ashes… I wanted him so badly… his touch… his lips… his tongue… his smell… I wanted everything of him…

Ares stood up, bringing me up in his arms. “We have to go.” He smiled. Then k!ssing me one last time before putting my feet on the ground. He put some bills on the table and we left in a hurry.
