SCATTERED BY FIRE ?

Written By Tosin Ezekiel

Episode 23

Fokie, a runs-girl, was kidnapped for many months.

But she escaped with a pastor, Pastor D, who was also kidnapped later.

They ran inside the bush not knowing where they were headed, they just wanted to escape.

They kept running until it was getting dark, and then they sighted smoke from afar in the forest.

They moved near the town and saw a stream, they were thirsty like animals in a burning bush. While drinking voraciously, one of the villagers saw them and ran back to report in the town.

A group of nked men came with bows, arrows and catapults, they wanted to kll Fokie and Pastor D.

Pastor D started praying aloud, but the more he prayed, the more they advanced, ready to sh®ot.

“Lady, why are you looking, can’t you pray?” Pastor D said with a shaky voice.

“It’s not prayer we need, I have an idea…” Fokies was saying.

Pastor D cut him, “Which idea, please pray that God should scatter them by fire…”

But the more Pastor D raised his voice, the more the men were moving closer ready to sh®ot their arrows.

Fokie finally spoke, “Please, stop praying, listen to me, this is not prayer, please, Pastor trust, just listen.

We will keep quiet. We will raise our two hands, we will go on our knees. They will believe we have surrendered”

This made sense to Pastor D, he kept quiet indeed.

They both knelt…raised their hands.

Immediately the nked men from the village saw them, they changed their minds, they let down their weapons, move close and ceased the two of them.

Instantly as they ceased them, they shouted for joy

Wuwuwuwuwuwuwu.

They strlpped off Pastor D, tied them both with thick ropes and put them on a wooden stretcher as they carried them to their town like animals caught in traps

Their leader raised a song and they all sang and danced.

In a couple of minutes, they were in the town and their women came out dancing. The women had short clothes on them, covering their chests and waists. It was a small uncivilised town and all the men were nked.

They were taken to their king who was almost naked except for a small piece of clothes around his waist.

They had a god whose sacrifice was bIõod. They were happy they got some sacrifices.

Laughter and dancing everywhere

Hahaha
Kekeke
Hihihi

The king ordered them to be put in a cage until the following day. Fokie and Pastor D didn’t understand their language.

Pastor D was naked but they left Fokie with her clothes. They threw them into a cage in the centre of the town.

It was during harmattan, it was darn cold and freezing. When it was midnight, Pastor D who was naked began to shiver. His bloõd was freezing and all his teeth were quacking. He was dying.

Fokie had a higher body temperature being a lady and having some clothes on her body.

They were there in the cold, Pastor D wrapped himself by burying his head between his knees.

Fokie felt concerned, she moved close to him and attempted to start rubbing her hands on Pastor D.

Pastor D shouted, fire! Fire! Fire! Don’t touch me, I am a child of God, I can’t sin.

Pastor D didn’t allow Fokie to touch him.

“Pastor, calm down, you need fire in your body, I want to help you. This is not a matter of being scattered by fire. You need me to be warm,” Fokie said like a warning.

“No, fire! I can’t commit fornication! I am a child of God, I am a pastor!” Pastor D said wrapping himself at another side of the cage away from Fokie.

“Pastor, you think too much. I am not asking you to sleep with me. I just want to help you. If I rub your body, there will be a little heat for both of us and we will survive this cold.”

Pastor D then understood what Fokie said, they both moved closer, reluctantly, and Fokie began to rub him until there was a little warmth.

They survived the night in the long run.

As the day was breaking, the villagers came with drums and dances. They picked them off the cage and carried them on the wooden stretcher matching down to their shrine.

They would sacrifice them to their gods.

Their king was at the shrines with the whole community. The priest at the shrine was crippled in both legs.

They praised their gods and presented the two sacrifices to their gods.

The crippled priest was ready to sIaughter them. They carried him and placed him on a pedestal. His sword was in his hands, he started chanting in their language.

Fokie started crying.

Ever since they were arrested, there was no communication, the naked men spoke a strange language and neither did they understand the language Pastor D and Fokie spoke.

Fokie cried the more.

Pastor D didn’t know what to do either.

Pastor D, “Dear Lady, what should we do this time? Your advice has been walking? Please tell me, before they kill us? What shall we do?

Fokie, “Ah Pastor,” Fokie said with tears, “this time, it is prayer, this is when we need that your scatter by fire, please.” She said like one without hope.

Pastor D started praying while Fokie cried in confusion. The priest raised his sword to heaven and was ready to behead them, he wanted to start with pastor D.

The whole town was jubilating, Fokie was crying, and Pastor D was praying.

The crippled priest standing on the pedestal raised his sword, he was about to land it when a thunder stroke from the sky.

Gbraaaa…ra…ra…ra….rarara

The crippled priest somersaulted and fell off the pedestal. The rope tying Pastor D was loosed out.

There was confusion. Some of them ran away, and the king and other elders stood afar to watch. The crippled priest was wallowing in pain on the ground.

Pastor D wanted to run too, but Fokie was still tied.

Then he heard a voice, ‘Pick him up.’ He knew it was the voice of God.

There was only one man on the ground–the crippled priest.

He grabbed the fallen crippled priest by his right hand and lifted him.

The man had been unable to walk for 25 years but he sprang up and started walking right before the whole town.

There was noise and those from afar moved closer, the king ran and prostrated on the ground before Pastor D.

They untied Fokie and circled the two of them singing and worshipping them.

The King sent and they brought a cow to slaughter in the worship of Pastor D and Fokie.

They thought there were gods.

Pastor D started explaining to stop them from doing the sacrifice, but they didn’t understand his language. The more he spoke, the more they rejoiced with shouts, dances and songs.

Suddenly, the Spirit of God came on him and he started speaking in tongues.

The whole town went quiet, it was like they were understanding what Pastor D was saying.

There was pin-drop silence, they started nodding their heads and replying to Pastor D with hmmm, ahh, heh, ayy, heeeh.

After a while, they all shouted the same words

Yaho ya Aye.
Yaho ya Aye.
Yaho ya Aye

They shouted this until their voice overshadowed Pastor D.

Whatever this mean, their king gave an order and they pulled down the shrine of their gods in a couple of minutes. Pastor D and Fokie were taken to the city.

There was a ginormous celebration from morning till evening. In the evening, the two queens of their king came: one was chubby and fair–when she walked, you would think she was rolling; the other was slim and dark with white teeth like milk. She smiled a lot.

The fair one set food before them, while the slim one set wine before them smiling.

It was a strange meal but they ate it, no other option. When Fokie tasted the wine they brought, she said, “Pastor, be ready to go high tonight.”

Pastor D didn’t understand until he tasted the wine, it was fermented, he drank a little though, and his stomach began to make funny sounds.

They discussed as they ate.

Fokie: Pastor, it all appears like a season film to me.

Pastor D: it’s like a dream here too, but we thank God.

Fokie: But how do we get out of here? We don’t understand them and they don’t understand us.

Pastor D: I don’t know about tomorrow, I just believe the God who kept us until now won’t leave us. There’s nothing to worry about.

I miss my family, I miss Ella, I can’t wait to sleep, maybe I can see my wife and children in the dreamland.

Later after their meal, they put Pastor D in a special room and put Fokie in another room in the palace.

Pastor D slept so fast that he started snoring, it was a long day, interesting but tiring.

At midnight, Pastor D woke up, there was a dim lamp in the room that could help him to see slightly.

He tried to roll on the mat, a fair naked woman was smiling at her by the right; his heart skipped in fear. He tried to roll to the other side, there was a dark slim lady, her white teeth were evident even under the dim light.

The King had sent his two wives, the queens, to entertain Pastor D.

Pastor D froze in their middle, he remembered what Fokie said at the stream that everything was not always to be scattered by fire.

Then he thought, “Is this to be scattered by fire or to raise his hands in surrendering again?

It was a harmattan season though. The fair chubby lady placed her hand softly on his chest and the other placed her hand on his head…
