ONE WEEK LATER
“Dad, can I talk to you?” George asked his father who was attending to some office files in his study
“Sure son, hope there’s no problem?“ he asked knowing his son was really disturbed with the issue he wants to talk about. He prayed and hoped that he hadnt find out what they have been hiding from him and his sister for years.
”Not really ”
”You may sit “he settled down on a seat infront of his dad.
”Dad, I know of your constant argument with mummy in my absence, what’s going ON? Or am I too young to be kept in the dark?“ he asked going straight to the point
His dad was shocked
”It’s nothing serious, we only argue on official matters, there’s no need for panic, you know how much your mum and I love each other, “he explained almost stammering
”When will mum return from her trip?”
“Next tomorrow”
”I thought as much, I’ve missed her alot, sorry for disturbing you, i’ll go back to my room.”

******* ”Debbie pick your phone!“ Thelma yelled at her sister
”Haba, must you scream to tell me that”she blurted out
“The constant ringing is coming irritating, why are you avoiding your boyfriend’s call? ”
”I broke up with him, I dont need any guy around me again, i want to face my studies, remember I’ll sit for my WAEC next year, so i’m getting ready for it”
“Please can someone pinch me, hope I’m not dreaming, Debbie, are you the one saying this”
“keep on dreaming “she said humorously
”You’ve changed for some days now, I just pray this your change is for real, I’m happy for you ”
They were so engrossed with the programme they were watching and didn’t know when their dad entered the sitting room,
”Debbie I want to talk to you! “he announced furiously
They sprang up and greeted him
”Debbie, why are you bent on disgracing me, why are you tarnishing my image, why can’t you just be like your sister. ”
The girls were surprised at his outburst.
”Dad, what did I do?“ she asked with a teary voice
”Your guardian called me and told me how you‘ve been messing up with your Maths teacher, for your information, I was being invited to your school tomorrow morning, the school will decide on your fate tomorrow“ he barked at her
”Daddy I wasn’t doing anything serious with him, we were just friends, ”
He slapped her hard on the face
”You have the nerves to call him your friend in my presence, how old are you?, you want to explore life at this young age, you wont do that in my house, as from today you wont leave the house without my permission, I must know where you’re going to, and no more friends, now give me your phone, no more phone until you’re done with your WAEC next year, just pray your school doesn’t expel you because I’ll kill you” he thundered at her
“Dad, I’m sorry, please forgive me,” she cried handing over her phone to him, he brought out her sim card and broke it.
“Go to your room right now”
She ran up to her room crying
“Thank God your mother is not around, I’ll deal with you now that she’s not around to pamper you” he fired at her
Thelma felt bad for Debbie, she just stood watching her dad scold her
“You better talk to your sister “he said going to his room.

******* ”why cant I reach her, I’ve been trying to call her for some days but her phone is switched off, I need to know if she’s alright, I haven’t seen her going or returning from school for some days, I’ve tried talking to her sister to ask after her but she’s a snub, she doesn’t
Even look at me, I dont like girls treating me like thrash.” George lamented to his sister who was listening with abrupt attention.
“You sound so concerned, do you like her? “she teased him
”she’s just a friend, i’ve met her twice and she’s nice to be with, i just like her company. ”
”Dont worry, I’ll talk to her sister to know if she’s ok”she promised him
“That will be nice of you, thanks sis”
They spent the evening talking to their mum on phone.

****** Debbie laid in her room sulking, she was expelled from school and the Maths teacher sacked, she was also grounded until she’s admitted into a new school,
she was in that mood when she felt wet under her, she rushed to the bathroom to check on herself, she came out with a sullen face.
“This will now add to my problems, as if grounding is not enough, menstrual cramps will also add to it”she thought to herself sighing, she felt miserable, she was really missing her phone and friends.
She searched her wardrobe for her pad and she was surprised to find out that the last one she had was no more there, she thought of who would ‘ve removed it from her closet, only Thelma have the right to her room, and she’s yet to start menstruating, she was confused, she remembered her complaining to her some months ago about not menstruating yet, she decided to ask her dad for permission to go out and get pad from a nearby pharmacy, he doubted her excuse but saw the seriousness in her look, he ordered the security to open gate for her, he instructed to return home in twenty minutes.
She hurried to the pharmacy and bought her pad, she bumped into George on her way out,
“Debbie! “he screamed out of joy
”George”
“What happened to you, were you sick?, i only see your sister going and returning from school, she’s the only one your driver drives to and from school”
“I was expelled, and I’m grounded for now”
“What happened “he asked looking concerned
”please i have limited time, my dad will kill me if I return late “she said walking away
”Wait pls” he rushed after her
“What happened to your phone”
“Daddy took it, call me with this number ”
He gave his phone to her and she quickly dialed her sister’s number with it, she saved her number in his phone and rushed home screaming
”Dont miss me so much!!!!!“ she screamed waving her hands and running down the street.
He laughed uncontrollably at her
He glared at his phone and Thelma was used in saving the number she just dialed and saved.
”I think I have heard this name from Debbie, he remembered the name, Oh no!! her sister’s number?“ he asked no one in particular.
