“Nkeiru, dont you think it’s time you go back to the village,this is the sixth month your brother died and you’ve been here with us, I dont like the way you and Amala are wasting my money in this house” Debbie’s mother scolded Nkeiru her sister inlaw
“I dont understand what you’re insinuating, are you telling me that we cant stay in our brother’s house as long as we want, or that we dont have right to spend his money.“ Nkeiru ranted
“I’ve ignored and endured what you’ve been doing since you arrived, please i beg you in the name of God, go back to the village so that my daughters and i will have peace of mind”
Nkeiru gave her a stern look, sighed and went into the guestroom.
Debbie’s mother was tensed, she wasn’t comfortable with her in laws stay in her house, they have been acting strangely since their arrival, they have been to their family lawyer to ask about their brother’s will, they have also started collecting money from her husband’s workers at the filling station, she remembered how her husband suffered to build that filling station, the manager had called her a week ago to complain about how her inlaws have been collecting money from them claiming it’s their brother’s money, she was determined to fight the two sisters with the last drop of her blood.

********“welcome home son, I’m proud of you” George’s dad said hugging him.
“Thanks dad” he replied excitedly, sipping the freshly prepared juice his mother made specially for him.
“I’m thinking of sending you abroad to further your education after your first year here” his dad told him.
He gave his dad a stunning look
“But dad, I’ve told you that i dont want to study abroad, i can only go there for my masters and moreover i’m already in a good school here, daddy I love my school, the lecturers are doing a good job” he explained trying to defend his school
“George, I prefer you studying abroad to here,you’re just in your first year, you’re still excited over your admission,” his mun cut in
“Mum, why does it look like you want to send me away, you’re sending Mirabel to the boarding school, now you want to send me abroad, seems like you and dad dont need us around anymore” he teased his mum
“I can never think of doing that, I’m just looking for the best for you” his mum said
“Since he doesn’t want to study abroad, we shall respect his wish, now let’s all move to the dinning before the food gets cold” his dad said with a smile
They all matched to the dinning, prayed and devoured their supper.

********* Debbie was getting impatient as her mum has been weeping since she called them into her room.
“Mum can you stop crying and tell us why you’ve called us into your room,” Debbie said abruptly
Her mum’s crying intensified, she signaled her to close the door
Debbie rolled her eyes before closing the door, Thelma was busy consoling their mum.
”My daughters, I called you all here to alert you on what is happening in this house, it’s now obvious your aunties are here to fight for your father’s property, but I’m ready for them, you girls need to be very careful in this house, always be watchful, watch every of their steps, Debbie, i want your sister to register for WAEC this year, both of you will write your WAEC together and move to the university,
Then i can have time to handle your father’s people and take care of my business “she said in a low tone
The girls glanced at each other and shuddered
”Debbie ensure you take care of your sister when i’m not around. ”
”But mum, she’s big enough to do that, if I should take care of her, then who will take care of me, because i know you wont be around when i need you, everyone should take care of herself ooo”she blurted out
“You’re silly, this is not time for this, we must be united to fight these people, now promise me that you’ll both be at peace with each other, dont allow anything to separate both of you are all I have in this world” she said amidst tears
The girls hugged their mother and promised to always be there for each other.

********** Mirabel returned home to spend the weekend with her family, she has missed her family so much, boarding school was not fair to her, she has emaciated, she cries everyday she talks to her mother on phone, everyone was happy to have her home for the weekend. George promised to take her out to have fun, he called Debbie and told her about his outing with his sister, and begged her to join them along with her sister, she was so excited over the news, she prepared for their Saturday outing.

******* Debbie was dressed in a blue jeans and top to match, she packed her hair and applied slight make up on her face, she checked her outfit in the mirror and smiled at her beautiful body, she checked herself once again in the mirror before leaving the room to call on her sister, she entered her sister’s room to meet her still lying on the bed.
“Thelma, so you’re still lying on your bed when George is waiting for us outside,” she asked her angrily.
“I’m sorry sis, I cant go out with you guys, my period just came rushing, i cant move my legs, i’ll join you some other time, I’ll quicky run a warm bath and take some pain killers” she said holding onto her abdomen in pain
Debbie was surprised at what her sister just said, she pinched herself to be sure she wasn’t dreaming
“Did you just say you’re menstruating?” Debbie asked looking perplexed
“Yes, you heard me”
“The last time we spoke about this, you said you haven’t started menstruating, so when did it start?, and i dont think this is your first menstruation, you look so relaxed, i can remember my first experience, how scared and worried i was” she stuttered
“So I should announce to the whole world that I’m menstruating, anyway mum knows about it and she has lectured me on it, extend my regards to your cute boyfriend” she said lying on her stomach
“My cute boyfriend? So you’ve been admiring him behind my back, just stay away from him” she said jokingly
Debbie was still shocked, she wondered why her sister cant share some vital issues with her, she closed the door and left to meet George, she met her mum in the sitting room and pecked her, she had earlier informed her of their proposed outing and she granted her permission. She was surprised Thelma wasnt with her.
“Where’s your sister?,”
“She’s indisposed, she’s menstruating” she muttered to her mum who understood what she said. She left promising to be back early

******* They all had fun, from the cinema to the beach, from the beach to a good eatery for lunch, then to the supermarket, they bought what Mirabel needed for school, Debbie was fun to be with, Mirabel fell in love with her, she loves the way she She expresses herself, Mirabel collected her number from her and promised to always keep in touch, George drove them home, when they got to their gate, Mirabel excused herself and went into the house, the gateman came out and tried opening the gate but George signalled him to wait, Debbie tried getting down from the car but he stopped her,
He held her hand
“Debbie, there’s something I will love to discuss with you, this is not the right place for it, I’ll call you to know when you’re free, thanks so much for being my friend” he said looking straight into her eyes
She felt ontop of the world, she was so happy to hear that from George, she has waited for months for that, she called her gate man to open the gate for her before alighting from the car, she watched him drive into their compound before entering hers.
She danced round the sitting room, she rushed to her sister’s room to tell her about their fun, she talked and talked and talked, Thelma noticed the excitement in her voice,
“So you’re celebrating when he hasn’t even asked you out,”
“I’m happy he made a move, you need to see how happy he was today,his sister was all over me, he couldn’t take his eyes off me,”
“Remember he’s now in the University, and there’s every possibility that he has a girlfriend in school, remember you’re yet to write your WAEC”
“I know George, he doesn’t have a girlfriend, I know eventually everything about him,”
“I just pray you’re right, because I dont want stories that touches the heart, be careful of heartbreak oo, so when do you want to meet him”
“As soon as possible, maybe next weekend,”
Her phone beeped, signaling she has a message, she quickly opened the text and it read,
“Thanks so much for making out time to be with us, we really appreciate, take care of yourself, Much love from us” she laughed sheepishly
“What more do you need to prove to you that George is in love with me, go through this message” she said handing the phone to Thelma
“This is serious ooo, anyway I wish you luck”
Debbie danced out of the room to hers, she had a warm bath and laid on her bed reminiscing on what George told her. She couldn’t wait to hear the sweet words of love from him. She slept off thinking about him.
