Mum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Gorge screamed and opened his eyes, he was breathing with the help of an oxygen, his mother stood up abruptly and ran to call the doctor
The doctor ran in immediately with his nurses
“He’s finally awake Doctor, his eyes are opened!!!!!”she screamed excitedly, she went on her knees immediately singing praises to God
“This is a miracle, I cant believe he made it!!!!!!” He heard the doctor said
The doctor and the nurses were busing attending to him
The door opened, his dad and sister walked in, they were so excited to see his eyes opened
George was shocked, he wondered what was happening to him, his sister was wearing her secondary school uniform, he closed his eyes and tried to know what actually happened to him, he tried to move his legs, but he couldn’t.
The door opened again and Debbie ran inside, she cried on seeing he was awake, she was looking young.
“She doesn’t seem married” he thought to himself.
He watched Mirabel hugged Debbie
He still doesnt know what was happening to him, the doctor had finally removed the oxygen from his nose.
“Mum, how long have I been here?” He asked in a faint voice
“You had an accident on your way to write your jamb, you’ve been in coma for the past seven months” his mum said
His eyes were wide open, he was surprised
“God, I’ve been hallucinating!!!!!!!” He thought to himself
“Where’s Gift?” He asked
“Who’s Gift?” His mum asked in surprise
“Where’s uncle Gabriel?” He asked
“He’s in Germany with his family” his dad chipped in
Where’s aunty Chinwe?”
“We dont know who she is” his mum replied
“George you’re still weak to talk, you need to rest now, save the talking for tomorrow” the doctor said
The doctor examined his pulse and nodded in excitement
You can all go outside now, he needs to rest, get him something to eat,“ the doctor said
They all went home to prepare a delicious meal for him, as directed by the doctor. Debbie went to her mother’s restaurant to break the happy news to her.
”I still have a lot to ask, where’s Thelma? Was my mother a wayward woman? Who’s Queen? what about Whitney? I have a lot to ask, God please I cant wait to leave this place and find the answers to my questions because i’m already going crazy” he mutterred to himself.
******** George swallowed his drugs and returned the glass to his mum who dropped it carefully on the table, she helped him relax on his back, she checked the bandage on his head, before sitting down, George cleared his throat to get his mother’s attention,
“Mum, I’m still confused, I can’t believe that all I told you never happened, they all seemed real, I can’t believe I spent six months here Lying on this bed hallucinating ”
“George, try and forget all that happened, you don’t know what the Lord did for us, at a time, we lost hope, we thought we have lost you, we prayed without ceasing. The doctor has pronounced you dead five times, and when they tried to carry you to the morgue, they will scream that you’re back to life, I don’t want to ask you about your hallucination and I want you to forget it and move on with your life,“ his mother said panting him on his back
“Thanks so much for taking Care of me mum” he said thankfully
“All the thanks go to God, he is indeed a miracle God”
He was still staring at his mum and didn’t know when he dozed off.
TWO WEEKS LATER
“Please do take proper Care of him, you know all he has been through, don’t allow him to stress himself for now, he needs all the rest and happiness in the world now” the doctor advised George’s parents after he was discharged from the hospital.
They thanked him wholeheartedly and stood up to leave
“Remember to bring him for his weekly checkups,”
“We won’t forget doc” his dad replied
His mother and sister carried his bags and flasks to the car, he was so happy that he was going home after spending half of the year in the hospital, he was well known by the nurses and doctors in the hospital, he went round with his dad to bade everyone their final goodbye.
************* He was all smiles as they drove home, Mirabel was filling his ears with stories of what has been happening in his absence, he was just nodding and smiling.
His dad blared the horn loudly and the security man rushed out to open the gate, he remembered the security man immediately he saw him, the security man coudnt hide his excitement, he rushed to him and hugged him, there were tears of joy in his eyes.
“Welcome small oga, I don miss you tire,I miss your beatings and slaps,“ he said excitedly
George was surprised at what he said
They all laughed it off
“Thank you so much ”
The two house girls rushed out at once
“Madam welcome, Oga welcome “they chorused
They waved at George and seemed withdrawn and scared
“Small oga, welcome” they curtsied
“Thanks”
They entered the house and he was happy to be home, he looked round the sitting room and smiled.
“I’ve missed home, I need to check out my room” he screamed excitedly
He hurried to his room and opened the door, he was shocked at what he saw, he saw his marijuana neatly arranged on his dressing table, alcoholic drinks filled the table, he moved closer to the table and opened the drawer, he saw his condoms well arranged just the way he left them, he sat on the bed and reflected on his past life before the accident. Hot tears fell down his cheeks, he remembered the horrible life he has been leaving,
“Mum thinks I’m having amnesia, she tried to hide my past life away from me, I remembered everything vividly, I have been a thorn on my dad’s flesh and they still showed me much love after all I did to them” he thought to himself. He wiped the tears that was already forming in his eyes
He went into the bathroom for a warm bath, he had a quick shower and dressed up and went downstairs to eat.
He met the sitting room empty, he relaxed on the sofa watching television when he heard the maids discussing in the kitchen, he tiptoed into the kitchen, he stood by the door listening to their discussion
“He seems a changed person, I don’t think he will go back to his lifestyle again”Ruth said
“I pray he doesn’t, I was so scared when I heard he was returning, ”
“Me too, I would t forget the last beating he gave me when one of his useless girlfriends lied that I insulted her ”
They both laughed
“I won’t forget that day, Gift was the one that suffered most, he abused and raped her, not just once oo”
“I do pity the poor girl, Thank God madam is a nice woman if not, I don’t know what that poor girl would have done with the pregnancy, especially after he denied r@ping her”
He had heard enough, he ran back to his room and buried his head in thoughts
“Where’s the poor girl? What have I done? Did she abort the baby? How will I face my parents and tell them that I raped her, she was the same girl I was running after before I woke up” he thought to himself.
His door opened and his mum walked in smiling
“mum, what are all these doing on my table?“ he threw at his mum pointing at the Marijuana and drinks on the table
“The doctor said we shouldn’t stress you, so we provide you with all that makes you happy, Nothing in this world makes you happier than these, they are your world, Marijuana, drinks and women”
“Mum please don’t remind me of those things, I don’t need them again in my life, God gave me a second chance to amend my life, and I’m going to do it, please mum, I’m so sorry for all the troubles I’ve caused you and dad”
His mum was surprised that her own son was apologizing,
His dad walked into the room, he heard all his son said,
“George, we forgave you long time ago, let’s forget the past and think of the future“ his dad said
“Did Gift abort our child?“ he asked no one in particular
They exchanged glances
“Mum, dad, I’m sorry, I raped the girl, I need to find her and apologize to her”
“I don’t know where she is, but I will try my best to reach her,we knew the truth, Gift can never lie to us,we will find her wherever she is”
“Thank you so much mum,”
They went downstairs together to have dinner
ONE WEEK LATER
********** It hadn’t been easy on George trying to amend his life, all his relatives and family friends have been trooping in to visit him, his best friend Elvis was back from the states and was coming to see him, Debbie and Thelma were always around to check on his sister. He can’t believe he was in love with Thelma in his world of hallucination, the two sisters were like sisters to him, they were in the same class with his sister, Mirabel. The girls were downstairs enjoying themselves while he was in his room going through his books, he closed his eyes and remembered how it all started
Flashback
********* George was the only son and child of his parents, he never lacked anything in life, he grew up a spoilt child before his family was blessed with a baby girl, he finished secondary school and gained admission into the university, he was so rude and violate, he was also involved in clubbing, womanizing, and drinking. His dad was disappointed and heartbroken at his behavior. He begged his dad to take him abroad to further his education but he refused, after much persuasions and fighting, his dad agreed to send him abroad, it was few days to his departure that he raped one of their housegirls.
His dad refused to allow him travel to the states, until he accepts his wrong and apologizes to the girl and her family but he sneaked out of the house with some money he stole from his dad and his passport, he planned to travel to the states and move on with his life, but unfortunately for him, he was involved in a fatal accident that nearly cost his life.
BACK TO PRESENT
“My guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!“ Elvis voice brought him back to life
They hugged each other tightly
“I’m so happy to see you, I am happy you’re back to life” Elvis said smiling
“How’s your dad and siblings?”
“They’re fine, they sent their greetings”
Elvis was shocked his friend wasn’t smoking or drinking as he use to before.
“George, you’re not Smoking or drinking? “he asked
“This is a new George ooooo”
“I’m so happy for this new George, we have Alot of catching up to do, what about girls? Elvis teased him
He hit him playfully on his shoulders
“Where are your luggages?”he asked changing the topic
“In the sitting room,let me go and get them”they both went downstairs to pick his luggages
********** George narrated all he experienced in the hospital while in coma to his friend, who was all ears
“This is quite strange, but all the same, thank God you made it out alive”
“I need your help, we need to search for Gift and ask for her forgiveness, I can’t wait for my mum again, she promised to help me but she’s still Enugu”
“I don’t want us to rush, right now I don’t even know where to start looking for the girl, when will your mum return from Enugu? ”
“I think next two days,she will return with her twin sister and her kids, they’re coming for my Thanksgiving ceremony ”
“let’s wait for her then”
“I need to find her and amend things, I’m so scared right now”
“You don’t need to be, everything will be fine
************** George and Elvis had gone to the hospital for his weekly check up, and from there had gone to visit some old friends, they returned a bit late to meet the house filled with guests, his aunty and her four kids were around, he was so happy to see them. Elvis joined everyone in the sitting room while his aunt dragged him upstairs to his mother’s room, she opened the door and he was shocked to see Gift seated on his mother’s bed, his mother was sitting beside her
“Mum, how did you find her…… Ermmmm…. “he stuttered
He was too excited and shocked to talk
She was heavy with a baby, she was almost due,
“She has been staying with your aunt since we found out that she was pregnant after the rape, I couldn’t abandon the poor girl with the pregnancy, and I was always with you at the hospital, so I took her to your aunt, who will take proper care of her”
He knelt down before her and asked for her forgiveness, he cried his eyes out.
“I’m so sorry for all nights I raped you, I ‘m sorry for the pains I caused you, I’m so sorry”
He covered his face in shame
she was moved to tears, she stood up and helped him up to his feet and told him she had forgiven him before he asked for forgiveness
It was a happy reunion, his joy knew no bound, his dad later joined them in the room, and it was agreed that, they won’t be forced to get married, he wants them to return to school first, Gift will return to school after she puts to bed, then you two will decide if you want to get married to each or not.
“Gift will stay here till she puts to bed, She will return to Enugu with the baby to further her education. George, arrangements have been made for you to return to school and complete your studies, you have just one more year to finish, then you decide what you want” his dad said
“Thanks so much dad, but I won’t want my first baby to be borne out of wedlock, I don’t know about Gift, but I’ve come to love her especially when I was hallucinating in the hospital, I love her so much that I was even looking for her to bring her back and marry her when her aunty told me she ran away. Now in the reality world, I’m ready to take full responsibility of my baby, I will go back to school and find a partime job, I will love it if we have a quiet wedding before she returns to Enugu” George said
Everyone was shocked at what he said, they couldn’t believe he just said all that.
“Gift, what do you have to say?“ George aunt asked her
“I support him, I love him too, I fell in love with him after the first rape incident, I tried to hate him but I couldnt” she confessed
“Good, then we need to meet the priest and choose a date for the wedding!!!!“ his mum screamed excitedly
“Yes ooooo” aunty Maureen joined in the excitement.
“Thanks so much Gift, I promise to take care of you and our baby”
“OK, I”m really glad that my son is now a responsible father, you can work in my company as a part-time worker, but you won’t move out yet from the house, we will stay here while your wife leaves for Enugu. You can always visit her and your baby, when you are done with school and stands on your feet, you can then bring your family to Lagos, where you will live happily ever after”
“Ooooh, thank you so much dad” George said
“Now come here you two, kneel down and receive our blessings”his mum told them
The elders blessed them and prayed for long life, prosperity, Happiness and forever after for them.
