George couldn’t sleep as he wondered why Queen was making a mountain out of an molehill, he sat down thinking, he tried to drink to sleep but changed his mind, the sound of the door bell to his room startled him,
“Who’s there?” he asked a little bit scared
“Room service sir”a male voice answered from outside
“What is he doing here at this ungodly hour, I don’t remember ordering for any thing”he thought to himself
He gently opened the door and saw the room attendant standing with a tray of coffee in his hands.
“Sir, your fiancee ordered this for you”he said handling him the tray
George smiled sheepishly as he collected the tray from him.
“she still remembers I take coffee at night, “he thought to himself once again
He dialled her number immediately and she picked,
“Angel please come back to our room”
“That I sent coffee to you doesn’t mean I’ve forgiven you,good night”she smirked at him cutting the phone
He tried the number again but it was switched off.
He drank his coffee before retiring to bed.

He woke up and couldn’t believe he woke so late, he checked the time and it was 11am, he jumped out of bed in shock and called Queen
“where are you Angel?“ he threw at her
“I’m in Lagos, guess you over slept and missed your flight” she replied rudely
“Oooooh my God, Angel I won’t forgive you for not waking me up early. I can’t believe you went back to Abuja without me, that’s mean of you, I wont forgive you for this”he screamed at her
“Oh my God I’m shivering,”
He angrily cut the phone on her ,cursing her under his breath
“I can’t believe I’m having a very bad day on my birthday, she didn’t even bother to wish me a happy birthday, not even my family too”he muttered and sighed angrily
He had a quick shower, dressed up and hurried to the park.

“You should be thankful that the doctor said you don’t have any STDs, stop crying out your eyes, the doctors are not God, God can make the impossible possible” Thelma’s mother said trying to console her
“Mum, what am I still living for, if I can’t bear a child for my husband? The painful part of the story is that, I was forced to abort those babies, they always induce me anytime they want to abort my pregnancy, I can’t remember how many times they aborted my babies, take a good look at me, no man will accept me for a wife”she said crying bitterly
“Thelma, you can’t continue like this, pick up the pieces of your life and move on, this is not the end of life for you, we your family is here to support you”
“I want to see my children, I must give birth to children,” she cried out loud
Her mother used soothing words on her but it wasn’t working, she thought of another plan
“Let’s go and visit your sister, she invited us over for dinner “her mum said trying to change the topic
“I don’t think I’m ready to face anyone yet, I can’t go anywhere with you,
“Since you don’t want to listen to me, I will start crying with you, we will cry till day break”her mother said breaking down in tears
She understood the trick her mum was trying to play on her, she got up from the bed,
“I’m going to shower, tell Debbie that we are coming”
Her mum smiled inwardly, and got up to get ready too.

George got home late around 6.30pm, the bus he entered broke down on the way, he walked straight to the entrance door ignoring the gateman’s greetings, he pushed the door open and was surprised to meet his family and friends smiling at him, the sitting room was well decorated, and there was a big inscription on the wall, “Happy Birthday My Sunshine I Love You So Much” He wondered who planned all that, he tried to talk but was interrupted by their song, they sang a happy birthday song for him, he was all smiles as they sang, everyone close to him was around, His parents, uncle Gabriel and wife, Elvis and three other people from the company. He searched for Queen but didn’t see her, he tried so hard to avoid expressing his disappointment.
“Bring in the cake” he heard his dad shout at no one in particular
Queen was all smiles as she carried the cake in. He was surprised to see, she dropped the cake on the table and hugged him.
“Baby I’m sorry for what happened, I was just playing pranks on you, I’m sorry I added sedative in your coffee to enable me organize this surprise party for you, I’m sorry for the stress I caused you, I’m so sorry sweetheart, I love you so much”Queen said
George kissed her so deeply and whispered into her ears,
“I love you too baby, but I will forgive you on one condition, you will spend the night with me” he said jokingly to her
She giggled and said yes to his Condition, they kissed once before disengaging from their hug.
Gift entered the sitting room almost immediately, she gave George a hug and pecked him on the cheek,
“Happy birthday friend” she whispered into his ears
He noticed how worried and sad she looked though she was looking beautiful in her outfit
“Thanks dear, but you don’t look alright, what’s wrong with you? “he asked her looking so concerned
“We will talk about it later, let’s enjoy your birthday first”
After cutting the cake, he excused himself to go up and shower.

Thelma woke up startled, it was the same dream again, she was sweating profusely under the Air conditioner,she was shivering under her blanket, her phone rang, she stretched her hand and picked the phone that was laying on the drawer close to the bed, it was one the girls that was rescued alongside her from Kenya, she quickly picked the call
“What!!!!!!!! “she asked in shock
“Bisi is dead, she was murdered this evening, I told you that Chief is behind this, as I’m talking to you ,I’m on my way to Togo, I’m running away for my life”the caller informed her
“Jesus!!!!!!!!!!, I can’t believe this, this is the third girl they have killed, I’m not save here”
“Take care of yourself, bye”
The phone went dead
She remembered how good Bisi was to her when they were in Kenya, she remembered all they passed through together and broke down in tears,minutes later, her phone beeped, it was a message from a strange number
“You are next on the list, you have no hiding place!!!”
The message read, her hands were shivering, she closed her eyes screamed
“Mummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Her mum rushed in immediately, she held onto her mum crying
“Mummy they’re after me, Chief is after me, he wants me dead”she stuttered
She gave her mum the phone and she read the text,
“This is an empty threat, I will use everything I have to fight the useless chief, which of the Chiefs are you referring to?, thought you said he was arrested “her mum asked with a confused look
“My ex husband works for the Chief, he has a multi billion company here in Nigeria, but he’s using the company as a disguise, he’s into human trafficking” she revealed to her mum
“You never bothered to tell me all these, why are you just opening up now? Do you know his company’s name?“ her mother asked
“No mum, I never knew they would come after us, I have not met chief but I’ve seen his picture once or twice”
“First thing tomorrow morning we will go to the police station to make a report, nothing will happen to you dear”her mother assured her
She accompanied her mum to her room where she slept with one eye opened.

George waited patiently at the restaurant, he ordered soft drink and chicken pie to satisfy his hunger, he was eating the last piece when she walked in,
“I’m sorry I kept you waiting, I just finished writing an impromptu Quiz” she apologized
“It’s alright,”
He ordered food and drink for her, he watched her eat slowly, when she finished eating, he cleared his throat to get her attention
“I’m sorry for calling you out today, I noticed you’ve not been the happy Gift I used to know, I need to know what’s happening to you. I tried talking to your sister but she said you’re in the best position to tell me that”
“Why are you doing this to me? Each time I try to move on with my life and forget about you, you come back again, why are you being so caring?”
“I’m sorry if I’m intruding into your private life, remember I promised to be always there for you”
She broke down in tears
“I can’t believe the family I’ve called my own is not mine”
“What are you talking about”George asked her in shock
“Sister Chinwe is not my biological sister, her mother was never my mother”
“What? How come you grew up in their home? ”
“My parents were murdered when I was just two, sister Chinwe’s mum picked me up after my parent’s death and brought me up as her own daughter”
“How did you find out?”
“I over heard Sister discussing with her husband about some men visiting the village, they asked for her mum, and told them to return me to my uncle, she said she will travel to the village to hear from her uncle. She doesn’t know I’ve found out the truth about my paternity yet”
“I know how you must be feeling now, you need to wait till she visits the village, you cant keep on wallowing in sorrow, moreover she loves and takes care of you like a sister, the best you would do for her is to put a smile on your pretty face and pretend you didn’t over hear their discussion, OK?”
“Thanks so much George, I really appreciate your care and concern towards me”
“I’m always there for you”
They talked about other things before he announced their departure, he paid their bill on their way out, They were about entering his car when his phone rang, he picked it
“You’re joking!!!!, I’m on my way” he screamed over the phone.
“What happened?”
“It’s Queen, I don’t know what they’re talking about, I’m rushing down to her place” he said igniting his car
“I will follow you“ she said following him.
