THE CHAT ROOM SEASON 2 : PART 1 – THE END

PART EIGHT

By Temi Akintade

“There is this frustrated teacher in my class. He keeps yelling at everyone that they won’t prosper if they don’t obey him.”

I stopped scrolling through my phone and cast my full gaze on her, ignoring the brown stain on her white blouse.

She just came back from school a few moments ago while I was waiting for a woman who wanted me to counsel her concerning her son. “Why would your teacher make such a statement? What subject does he teach?”

“Mathematics mum! Some of my mates said it’s because he doesn’t have a wife that is why he is insulting.” Hadassah unbuttoned her shirt.

“I don’t care if his single status has gotten into his freaking head! I think I need to see the owner of that school. Not just for your sake but the sake of other teachers.” I scoffed. How dare him!

“Please mum, come and report him. Because we have tried reporting him to the school administrator but nothing was done against him. He was only suspended for some weeks and after that, he came back worse!”

“How can your school principal employ an animal in your school? I will go there on Monday by God’s grace.”

“I was punished today by him simply because I said God forbid when he was insulting us. Meanwhile, if not for the help of our cleaner, I would have been severely punished.”

I scoffed. “I will deal with that frustrated teacher of yours by the time it’s Monday.” A slight knock on the door halted our conversation. I made a signal for Hadassah to go inside then I made my way to the door.

“You are welcome ma!” It was the woman I have been waiting for.

“Thank you ma!” She finally settled into one of the sofas opposite me. “My name is Morenike. I was the one who called you on phone.”

I nodded, urging her to continue.

“I enjoyed your sermon last week. I’m grateful for the teaching. Thank you for yielding to the call of God over your life.” She said.

My heart tumbled with excitement. The last teen mother’s prayer meeting was attended by 10 mothers asides from my neighbour.

The last meeting was glorious such that, they all gave their lives to Christ. “All the glory belongs to God sis Morenike.” I grinned.

She sighed, and her countenance changed into a sad one. “I have had a problem that is eating me deeply for years. I don’t know if you can stomach it.” She glanced at me withheld rimmed eyes.

A frown lit my face. “Sure.” I nodded.

“Well, I have a nineteen-year-old son, who hasn’t stopped bedwetting.” Her eyes stayed on my face for a while, as though she was expecting feedback from my face. Satisfied, she continued. “He doesn’t only bed wet, he dropped out of school as a result of this problem.

The last woman of God we went to, didn’t want to keep us any close to her because according to her, my son damaged her manicured nails when she tried to hit him across the face for being rude to her when I took him to her place.”

I scoffed. “Manicured nails?”

She nodded. “That is why I told myself not to ever approach any woman of God who fixes nails because the last one really dealt with my son.” Her voice shook, she was on the verge of tears.

I sat in another chair that was placed right beside her and held her callused hands. “The fact that you had a bad experience with one, doesn’t make the others fake either they are fixing nails or not.

But now, I see that it is because of you and some others who are yet to come, that the Holy Spirit asked me to stop fixing my nails.” I cleaned her tears with my hands and waited until she was done crying.

Then I continued. “I want you to know that God is ever-present with you even in your pains. Have you tried fasting and praying on this matter?”

“I have done that ma. Several times, I have done that.” She sighed.

“Can you do another three days fast? This time around, include e him in the fast and be more deliberate. Your prayer point should be, Lord take away this reproach from my son. And I want you to cry like Jabez.

And on the third day I believe that your son will be delivered in Jesus mighty name. Then bring him for the program on Saturday so I can see him.” I concluded.

Her face lit up when I released her hands. “Is that all? I thought that you would give us something to eat or drink or an instruction to burn his old clothes like a pastor told us to do.”

My lips tugged into a smile. “No. This is the instruction that the Holy Spirit has asked me to give to you. So go and pray for your child. Meanwhile, you haven’t been praying for your child. As from today begin to do that okay?”

She nodded and embraced me. We talked a bit more before she finally left.

THE CHAT ROOM SEASON 2 : PART 1 – THE END

I was entering into my eatery on Monday morning, after I prepared to go to Hadassah’s school. But the person I saw made me freeze in shock. She was the last person I expected to see.

“Please, I know I have hurt you. Please forgive me.”

It was sister Dorcas. She was dressed in a white flare gown that hid her small frame. How she got small overnight, was something I didn’t understand.

At first she was hiding her eyes in a black glasses but it was later that I understood why. She had a black eye.

I helped her up and we walked into my office together. She kept exclaiming that God was good to me, and that it pays to be good and all that.

“Why were you disturbing me to come and see you in a restaurant some months back.” I leaned into chair.

She took a deep sigh. “I have been broken, and hurt by my husband and so when this began to happen few weeks after my marriage, I realized that I needed to apologize not just to you but to everyone that I have hurt.”

“I have forgiven you. And I’m so sorry about what your husband does to you.” I shook my head. Deeply touched at the sight of her black eye.

“Thank you Paulina. I wish I checked well before getting married to him but now, I’ve learnt my lesson because all men are the same.

Can you imagine he cheats on me and beats me up when I decide to speak to him about it?” She clapped her hands.

“I need to correct something you just said sis Dorcas. All men are not the same. Because the men, who are being led by God, are not the same with men who are being led by their flesh or by the d’vil.” I emphasized.

She forced a smile. “Oh, okay then. But since you are not married you may not understand me well.”

“Well, maybe. Okay I need to be somewhere now if you don’t mind.” I rose to my feet.

“Oh! It was so nice seeing you again. I’m glad about your eatery achievement. I will be coming from time to time.”

“You may not meet me here so always call before you come okay?” I replied firmly. I didn’t want her disturbance.

I was about to pray with her and invite her to the prayer meeting but I felt a nudge in my Spirit not to.

“Please pray for me Paulina.” She held my hands.

I grinned. “Father we thank you for your daughter’s situation. In Jesus name we pray!” I didn’t want to pray more than that because of the nudging in my Spirit.

It was after she left that the Holy Spirit told me that she was living with a married man hence, the beating.
