THE CONGRUENCE 13 – 17

The Opportunity: Her uncle wanted to give us internship positions at his company during the strike so we could have real-life, hands on experience and spend the strike period productively. It was also a way for us to make good money that could come in handy when the strike was over. We would still be living on Campus because it’s closer to the office location. She promised to bring me home every other weekend to see them.

How could my mum say no to that?
She even prayed for Deola and thanked her for loving me unconditionally, even when my family background disqualified me from being her friend. She talked to me as well and encouraged me to be good because this could be an opportunity for employment after school.
“Will Captain agree to this every other week thing?” I asked as soon as we got off the phone
“That’s just a start; we’ll come up with something along the line. It will be too late for them to say no”
“You too sharp (You are very smart)” I replied as I high-fived her“See yourself, you actually chose being with Captain over your family. You don turn to complete ‘Lovinus’(Love has intoxicated you)” Deola jokingly teased me.
So we started our “internship” and it wasn’t long before I realized how boring school was without lectures and the other students.

Deola wasn’t around much either because Chief Agbabiaka made the most of the strike…he was always summoning her. I was the one that had to wait till Fridays to see my man.Three weeks went by fast…the boredom coupled with having to go home to see the folks the second weekend made me decide to accept Captain’s offer to move to his guest house. So I moved in.
