Episode 4.
The next days was like forever for the Ade’s . John and Sophia already had their bags packed. Even Mrs Ade was packed and ready. She had gone all by herself to clean the house the previous day when the children went to school. She couldn’t wait to start using her new kitchen. She wished they could just move unto the new house today but her husband had said that the pastor was coming to pray for the house the next day and so they had no choice than to wait for the next day. She couldn’t finish with the cleaning of the eight rooms and so she got ready to go there today to continue with the cleaning.
Loveth: Mummy are you going out today?
Mrs Ade: yes my dear, yesterday I went to clean our new house but I was unable to clean two of the rooms. And so I want to go back there today and complete the cleaning. You know its tomorrow we are moving finally.
Loveth: Tomorrow? But pastor Mike has not come to pray in the new house.
Mrs Ade: yes, your father said he is coming tomorrow to pray on it and we will move immediately after the prayers.
Loveth: okay mom. Is it okay if I come with you to clean the place?
Mrs Ade: ain’t you going to school?
Loveth: No mom, I rounded up my exams yesterday.
Mrs Ade: oh that’s good. Grab a broom and a bucket then and come with me.
That was how Loveth followed her mom Mrs Ade and together they went to the new house. As usual, the whole place was quiet.
Mrs Ade: I just love this environ, the place is serene and quiet.
Loveth: mummy I dont like this house. Something is not right but I just can’t place it.
Mrs Ade: Love, you have started again. I dont have time for your plenty talk today. Tomorrow pastor Mile will come and pray here and we will rest with your wahala.
Loveth: Mom why is it that nobody can feel what I am feeling. This place Is……
Mrs Ade: is what? ( she shouted interrupting Loveth) the place is what? Loveth see don’t just get me angry today o. You said we should invite pastor Mike, your dad and I have done that, what else do you want? Did they plant your navel in that old house? Answer me when am talking to you (she shouted at Loveth)
Loveth: No ma.
Mrs Ade: good. So shut up and clean with me or you wait outside.
Loveth: am sorry ma.
Loveth picked up the broom and started sweeping the rooms, then she saw a picture hanging on the wall of the room. She wondered who was the man with the big smile, she knew she had seen the picture before but she couldn’t remember where, but as she swept the second room she saw the same picture hanging on the wall. Loveth was confused, then she moved from room to room and found out that the picture of that man was hanging in all of the rooms, the parlour, the kitchen and even the toilets.
Loveth: mummy! Mummy!
Mrs Ade: Loveth what is it?
Loveth: mummy see, (she pointed at the picture of the man on the wall)
Mrs Ade: Yes, what is wrong with it. Its a picture.
Loveth: Mummy who is the man.
Mrs Ade: How should I know, but your father THINKS its the owner of the house.
Loveth: Think?
Mrs Ade:(looks at her suspiciously) yes, Loveth, think.
Loveth: But mummy what is it doing in our house, in all the rooms and parlour and kitchen and even the toilets.
Mrs Ade: The Landlord said he does not want the picture to be removed.
Loveth: mummy, isn’t that weird?/how can we just keep the picture of a strange man all around our house. As if he is the king of the house.
Mrs Ade: But is he not? He is the landlord and therefore the king of the house.
Loveth: mummy I dont like the idea.
Mummy:Loveth go inside, clean the toilets and let’s go home.
Loveth : yez mom.
Loveth continues her sweeping until finally they finished and left for home.
